The “blimp” that Rose is dangling from is called a barrage balloon. They were a defensive perimeter set up across major cities, like London, and they dangled metal wires and ropes downwards, with the intention of messing up the wings & propellers of low flying German planes - to stop them from getting too close & dropping bombs on cities.
The "just this once" ending had fans back in the day going through all 150+ stories of the classic era, trying to work out how many end with nobody having died. I can't remember the exact total people came up with, but I'm pretty sure you'd only need one hand to count them on. And the Time War took place between the classic era and the 2005 revival, so this really was an amazing result for the Doctor.
Richard Wilson, the Scottish actor who played Dr. Constantine, is well-known as the star of the Britcom, _One Foot in the Grave._ He played Gaius on _Merlin._ Wilson campaigned for gay rights.
The brilliant works of Stephen Moffat. The only writer of doctor who Christopher Eccleston actually liked working with. And I can’t say I’m surprised, he’s a brilliant man.
@@caitfurnox to be fair Chris didn't say Moffat was the only writer he liked working with, he was just the one who 'got' what Chris was trying to do with the Doctor's character better than anyone else
He's lucky. Some of the doctors like Colin Baker were lucky to get a single "All Time Great" story during their tenure. In his one season, Eccleston got this two-parter as well as Dalek, and I think you could make a case for Father's Day being not far behind.
"Why am I crying?" i know why I am crying! The absolute joy on 9's face. Everybody lives. Just this once! After seeing nothing but war and death, and trauma, and destruction, we finally have a win where there is no death, where everybody is safe and sound (as safe and sound as you can be in 1941 during a German air raid), and they all live. Imagine all the pain that the Doctor has been through, has seen, and finally gets to have this? Yup, that's what gets me going.
@@obiwankenobi687 Hey, no I totally get you, but in this case Billy had already spoiled it for himself during the video that he was in Torchwood when he googled the actor so I didn’t tell him anything new. But totally appreciate what you’re saying ❤️
Jack's character is described as being Omnisexual - men, women, aliens, all beings of all genders are welcome so far as he's concerned. John Barrowman is pretty well known for playing a significant role in Arrow and it's associated shows as well as being an established musical theatre actor. I'm sure someone has said that Torchwood shouldn't be started until after you finish Season 2 of Doctor Who and Sarah Jane premiered after Season 3 I think. I personally like The Sarah Jane Adventures but they are aimed at a slightly younger audience. I'd say definitely react to at least the pilot on RUclips and ideally before you get midway through season 4
*Doctor Who* is for the most part designed to be for all ages. There'll be specific episodes that skew younger or older (definitely a few I wouldn't let a very young child watch) but most of the time a 9 year old and a 90 year old could sit down to watch together and both feel they got something from it. *Sarah Jane Adventures* is definitely aimed at a younger audience than Who to begin with, but it grasped on to that one particular group of people for dear life and really grew up alongside them for 5 or so years. By the end of the show it's much more in line with Doctor Who in terms of target demographic. Feels almost like it went from maybe 8-13, to 13-18? If you don't like it to begin with might be worth powering through a bit to see if it grows on you as it changes. If you don't know anything about *Torchwood* already then continue to not know anything and go in with no idea what is going on.
The Sarah Jane adventures have some really dark episodes, and although it was made more so for younger viewers, most of the episodes are on the same level of doctor who. There are quite a lot of adult jokes and a gay neurodivergent main character (which was really important growing up and being able to relate to that character), and the actors are really good. I absolutely loved watching it when I was younger and really enjoyed rewatching the show as an adult. It has a lot of solid writing and iconic characters, overall its a really good show, and I think you'll enjoy a lot of the episodes. Also, doctor who has a lot more iconic lgbtq+ characters throughout the show and especially in the later seasons you haven't seen yet :)
There most definitely is going to be lgbtq content on the show... Jacks actor was in "Arrow" as Malcolm Merlyn and in the Producers remake singing "Springtime for Hitler" with blond hair.
Such a great 2 parter..... many more to come..!!! Ps although the Xmas episodes are one offs they are essential as they usually seed the coming season... make sure u watch them in order!!!
Sarah Jane is a great show, in my opinion, but it starts off way more "kiddy" before slowly maturing. It's worth watching. Reacting to it isn't necessary, but maybe a few episodes here and there would be good.
Cool. If there’s like crossovers or the most popular episodes and you guys tell me at the time. I’d be down. But deff more on that later. Very excited for Torchwood
Re the spin-offs, wait until after series 2 of DW before starting Torchwood, and Series 3 for Sarah Jane Adventures. There is a little bit of a crossover for each on occasion. I do think SJA is outstanding, and while it’s aimed at a younger audience, it doesn’t talk down to them, and the stories and performances are great. It’s one of those shows that just gets better and better each season. Also, SJS episodes are under 30 minutes (apart from the pilot), and is 12 episodes per season, with every story a two parter. So that equates to effectively 6 DW episodes per season - not as big a commitment as other shows.
Is this the first Moffat? The horror feels moffaty. And that line 'Just this once everyone lives' is peak characterization. And to this date is still not a lie. 😊
I think you could totally do a solo watch of Sarah Jane and then do a single episode response to the whole series... Torchwood on the other hand deserves a full reaction series.

John barrowman never sexualy assaulted anyone. He flipped his dick out on a few woman's shoulders thinking they would see the funny side as he was openly gay but some didn't. Foolish of him acting like a big kid. Yes. sexual assault. No. The amount of heterosexual men who have got away with groping women constantly and then said it was all a bit of fun is what is really fucked up. You even made one president on America. And some of you want him back again. That's what's really fucking sick in my opinion.
