Location report, The cash machine was in the building Rose worked in, in the first episode. The taxi chase was on the Bay Bridge in Cardiff. The Church used was the same one as in Father's day.
This is such a fun episode. At the time, Catherine Tate was mostly known as a comedienne who did a lot of over the top sketch comedy characters. She really showed her more subtle acting ability in the quieter moments here. The one big question in this episode: Why on earth is Donna wearing a sleeveless wedding dress on Christmas eve in London?
You're not British are you. British women will go to the pub in sleeveless, backless, short dresses in heels while it's literally snowing. Also, Donna wasn't expecting to be walking around London on her wedding day. Point is, she gets one day to wear that dress and she'd rather look fabulous and suffer through the cold. Also, global warming.
It’s too bad we don’t get more of her after this. But Catherine Tate and David Tennant later did a Shakespeare production of Much Ado About Nothing together.
Still one of my favourite Christmas Specials! Catherine Tate was a prominent actress at the time, with her own comedy sketch show called 'The Catherine Tate Show', so her being in this episode was a big deal. The motorway chase scene has been ingrained in my memory. Excited to see you dive into Series 3. You're not ready!
The song playing when the Doctor watches the blonde dancing and flashes back to Rose was written by Who composer Murray Gold and is called "Love Don't Roam": *Well I've roamed about this Earth With just a suitcase in my hand,* *And I've met some bog-eyed Joes,* *I've met the blessed, I've met the damned;* *But of all the strange, strange creatures* *In the air, at sea, on land,* *Oh, my girl, my girl, my precious girl,* *I love you, you understand . . .* *So reel me in, my precious girl,* *Come on, take me home;* *'Cause my body's tired of travelling,* *And my heart don't wish to roam. No, no.* *I have wandered, I have rambled,* *I have crossed this crowded sphere;* *And I've seen a mass of problems* *That I long to disappear!* *Now all I have's this anguished heart,* *For you have vanished too.* *Oh, my girl, my girl, my precious girl,* *Just what is this man to do?* *So reel me in, my precious girl,* *Come on, take me home;* *'Cause my body's tired of travelling,* *And my heart don't wish to roam.* *Yeah, reel me in, my precious girl,* *Come on, take me home;* *'Cause my body's tired of travelling* *And my heart don't wish to roam. No, no.* *Well you took me in, you stole my heart,* *I cannot roam no more;* *Because love - it stays within you,* *It does not wash up on a shore.* *But a fighting man forgets each cut,* *Each knock, each bruise, each fall;* *But a fighting man cannot forget* *Why his love don't roam no more.* *Oh reel me in, my precious girl,* *Come on, take me home;* *'Cause my body's tired of travelling,* *And my heart don't wish to roam.* *Yeah, reel me in, my precious girl,* *Come on, take me home;* *'Cause my body's tired of travelling* *And my heart don't wish to roam.* *Yeah, walk with me, my love, my love,* *Walk tall, walk proud, walk far,* *For you know my love, you are, you are,* *You are my shining star!* *Walk with me, oh my love,* *Walk tall, walk proud, walk far.* *For you know my love, you are, you are,* *You are my shining star, you are, you are. Yeah!* *Reel me in, my precious girl,* *Come on, take me home;* *My body's tired of travelling,* *And my heart don't wish to roam.*
Love this episode. Great acting and score. So many moments we are reminded just by the Doctors face that we are less than 12 hours after Bad Wolf Bay Bye-Bye.
...and with that, u enter what is for me, probably one of the best seasons in the show... (certainly there's a run of 4 or 5 stories that are unparalleled...)... can't CANT wait to watch....
Glad you enjoyed this fun Christmas episode. This was the first NuWho story where we hear the name of the Doctor’s home planet, Gallifrey, for the first time (it was first mentioned back in classic Who in 1974). You asked what CV meant. The letters stand for “curriculum vitae” ((Latin for “course of (one's) life”) and is “a short account of one's career and qualifications prepared typically by an applicant for a position.” It’s the equivalent of your résumé in the US. As others have said, can’t wait for your reaction to all of season 3. Most Whovians would put it above season 2 in terms of story lines and overall quality, and it has maybe 1 or 2 below par episodes (which out of 13 is really good) with an extremely stronger 2nd half of the season than the 1st half (though that 1st half is still very strong!) Buckle up, Billy, and enjoy the ride that is gonna be season 3 of Doctor Who! Allons-y!!
Harriet Jones was removed from office after her actions with the sycorax. Catherine Tate (Donna) was a popular comedian in britain before joining this series she had her own show "The Catherine Tate Show" which ran from 2004 to 2007. Without getting too much into spoiler territory I won't say what episode what character or if it's either in Classic or NuWho I will say when some new companions arrive they do just appear, some stowaway, some come by accident, some were kidnapped by accident and some asked to join in the Doctor's travels some companions aren't always from earth or the modern day i'll say no more than that so in answer to your question yes it's a normal thing for the show.
The actress who plays Martha Jones (i guess its no longer a spoiler, right ?) was already in a previous episode, but she played a different person there at the Torchwood office.
The Doctor does invite a lot of women along, even when he already has a companion -- like with Rose, he invited Lynda with a Y, Sarah Jane, Mme. de Pompadour.
Love the reaction as always Billy ❤ I was gutted when rose left but Donna is probably my second favorite companion if you can class her as that love the comedy n chemistry they have completely different from rose n the Dr it only gets better from here so excited for you to experience it ❤ xx
How can you not know that an alien from Mars is a Martian ? Have you never come across H G Well's "War of the Worlds" or god knows how many other SciFi books and films.
@@BillyKearneyReactsI think Dr. Who is a good place to dip your feet into the Science Fiction pool. I am enjoying your journey, and my own rewatch (even if I’m 2 seasons ahead now.) Hope we see some other SciFi entries. Watching people react to Star Wars is always fun for me. Star Trek can be fun too. But beware the fanboys for both of those.
The story with Rose was a love story, just not in the traditional way. They loved each other and got separated, he didn't even get to say I love you back. :(
@BillyKearneyReacts Well, it was mentioned last Christmas as well, when Daniel Llewellyn said the Sycorax might not be from Mars, and the major said Martians look completely different.
I’m not saying it’s a rule-AFAIK there aren’t rules as such-but informal, common practice has been that Doctors have three year runs and Companions have two year runs. Not a rule, there are and can be exceptions. Tom Baker’s seven year run as The Doctor (#4) was an exceptional exception-and of note, Sarah Jane was a companion that transitioned from Doctor #3 to Doctor #4.
3x0 and not 2x14 is correct, there are seasons with specials before and with specials after the regular episodes. Some even have both. Before is always only one special, and the Christmas specials are mostly before the regular. The specials after the regular episodes sometimes are more then one.
Donna is so annoying & unlikeable in this episode. Luckily - after this - in the Tennant era - the companion & the stories all get better and better and better.

Casting Catherine Tate as Magica de Spell to be Scrooge’s foil was inspired
I loved the two of them in Much Ado About Nothing. Especially David as Bennedick. Absolutely hillarious
Good catch near the end, she was in another episode of the show but a different character than the one she plays this season.

I could see her STAR-POWER🤩
Was she also on The Office(US)?
@j_squared5ever543 I've not seen it, but yes, I believe she was.
I recommend the sketches Gay Son and Offensive Translator.
@@j_squared5ever543 Interesting. When people have mentioned her being on _The Office,_ I thought they must mean the British version.

Truthfully I don’t remember much about Donna’s dad so I don’t want to lump him in with her mother

dont they say that was a cousin of hers to explain it?
The Doctor does invite a lot of women along, even when he already has a companion -- like with Rose, he invited Lynda with a Y, Sarah Jane, Mme. de Pompadour.
RTD likes to repeat names, particularly Smith and Jones, which are both common names, to be fair.
