Freema Agyeman wasn't yet cast at the time of filming as the new companion when she was playing the other character Adeola in "Doomsday" so they made up a story that, that character was Martha's cousin.
The doctor in the hospital was named Dr stoker as an easter egg/tribute to bram stoker, the author of dracula.. as this story is about blood suckers...!
Occasionally actors who play a one-off role in DW come back later as a different main character. In this case it was explained as them being similar looking cousins. Also, actors occasionally play different guest characters, sometimes years apart . The actress who plays Martha’s mum, Francine, played the head cat nun in New Earth last series. People really should be more careful to avoid spoilers.
For the confusion about Martha/the girl from the s2 finale: Martha mentioned the connection in the episode - the girl in the finale was her cousin Adeola, and she died at Canary Wharf. They're not the same character: they're two different but related characters played by the same actress.
Hate that people apparently have posted spoiler-y things in the comments. Highly recommend having a moderator screen things for you even if you are a bit ahead just to be safe. Also, Martha is played by the same actress as the girl in the finale episode. It's explained in this episode, you just might have missed it (I did the first time) - Martha mentions she had a cousin named Adeola that worked at Canary Wharf which was supposed to be how they explained it- very similar looking cousins 😂
Re the view of the space where the hospital should be- yes- that's the site of St Thomas's Hospital, one of the big London teaching hospitals. The hospital in the episode is named something different - but clearly it's based on St Thomas's. Martha explained when they were out on the balcony- she had a cousin- Adeola - who was lost in the Battle for Canary Wharf- THAT was who we met before (but it's the same actress....it was a way of explaining why she looked the same)
Up to this point in the show’s revival I would personally rank this as the best season opener of the three. Martha is a much more rounded companion than Rose, and you will see that as the season progresses. Freema is wonderful in the part and it must have been daunting for her as an actress to have to step into the void vacated by Billie Piper, but she does so brilliantly. The Judoon are a welcome addition to the roster of new Doctor Who alien creatures which were sadly lacking in season 2. Apart from re introducing the Cybermen from classic Who, there was really only the Krilitanes in the episode “School Reunion” which brought in new aliens/monster species for a new audience to enjoy. There’s a bit more variation of monsters in season 3 with one being brand new and who would go on to be a fan favourite. Enjoy the rest of this season, Billy. You’re gonna have a blast!
@@BillyKearneyReacts Billy, just an idea (as a couple of other Doctor Who reactors have done this) but have you ever thought about ranking the stories of each season? Say your top 5 favourite stories (and 5 of your worst stories) of seasons 1, 2 and eventually 3? Obviously you’d have to retrospectively review the first 2 seasons whilst you’re still watching season 3 but could be a fun idea. You could also expand it to include videos on who’s your favourite/least favourite actor as the Doctor, favourite/least favourite actor/actress as companion, favourite/least favourite monster/alien and favourite/least favourite show runner’s era (there will have been technically 5 show runners by the time you’ve caught up with all the seasons). What do you think?
Thanks Billy, for your lovely Dr Who reactions. I do watch you here on RUclips. Wish I could afford Patreon though. 🙂 Hope you have a good Thanksgiving and upcoming Christmas season... and see you soon for the next Torchwood/Dr Who episodes!
Can’t help singing TS Florida!!! Lol. Has there been a companion people didn’t like? Well, in classic Who, there were a bunch of very high-pitched screechy women needing to be saved (written by Men).
Sorry to hear people are spoiling this show. In the future people, please remind people to only comment things with info up to that current episode at the start of each video and not to mention if any characters/actors/villains/places/plot points come back. This show has a habit of spoiling things in trailers months early so people tend to be very loose with spoiler comments but yeah.... I would also recommend just not reading the comments until a trusted mod clears out any spoilers. I hope you can continue to enjoy the highs of the next few seasons without people ruining things.
Most of us never would have expected or been watching for Donna’s return. Spoilery comments alluding to some kind of return are easily misunderstood and can take you out of just living in the moment. Enjoy the ride. I love this arc because it explores lingering impact of grief and developing self-confidence and agency. I experience the season as a whole, not episode by episode.
Hey, I like Rose too! All of the companions have their charms but I won’t say anything in advance. Sorry you’ve been feeling down. It’s Thanksgiving-plan on **doing** something heartwarming (dare I say heartstopping?!) so as not to deepen any sadness. At the very least don’t do nothing! And… have a Slab (ha ha) of something… tasty… 😂

That also happened in other shows, best example is maybe Lucy Lawless in Hercules where she first played a total different role than Xena.

Just remember that Doctor Who has this infinite ability to surprise you. So just embrace things as they unfold
I will!!! :)
