The imagery is just genius - it´s an ironic song about tax evation (of big rock groups of the time) by moving to tropical tax havens as far as I know.
You can hear the fake hawaian slide-guitar before the refrain. The fake kalimba-pling with the keyboards and the ominous sounding xylophone-guitar part in the middle conveys a feeling of jungle, danger and crime. Yes, and of course it´s a reggae.
GG were very inventive in evoking pictures in your head with their music.
10cc's "Dreadlock Holiday" owes a debt of gratitude to this track!

Flashback to '76 when I was a nocturnal AM programmer at WAKN in Aiken, SC and the newly released 'Interview' LP arrived. I dropped the needle and cranked it up on the studio JBLs. Thanks for the memories.
Me too at 106.7 FM STEREO PANAMÁ. Thanks that the radio station was family owned and we had liberty to play whatever we liked, we introduced Gentle Giant s músic to the listener. "Octopus" and later on, "Civilian" were often played!

I remember going to my friend Rob Adam's house(looked like a record store) and he told me to pick out an lp and I found GG and after he played it I was hooked, sad you all did not get much radio play in the USA. RIP Rob Adams you are missed

I break it up from 6/4 to one bar of 5/8 before the 4/4 section and a 2/4 and then 4/4 with a 7/8 , 8 lots of 3/8 then guitar THEN I gave up 🤕😊

Superb footage, but it doesn't match the album version, like all the footage you've released for the new 2023 mix. I'd much prefer videos like the Design one, and footage like this one with the real sound released separately.

@@JpointAHe does play sax on live versions; I wonder if there's a particular story about why he's playing sax for the music video - maybe it was cut out of the mix at last minute, or he's taking the piss at the idea of lip syncing.

Steven Wilson systematically destroys the classics. The hemorrhage he performed on the yes albums is mind blowing awful. He is polluting and diluting the originals. Just awful.
Wow can't believe it. I was playing some 70s great albums yesterday. First spin just happened to be Acquiring the Taste. Have a few of the early albums and always thought they were great. To hear you're still out there ( heck I didn't know ) I'll be looking looking for some new g g. Thanks
