Learnt something with fun. Totally agree that when we teach vocabulary with context ...it becomes meaningful and ultimately meaning becomes memory. Also impressed by various activities suggested.
I teach adverbs of frequency differently. Instead of using a cline... or percentages... I used my hands to show how to use never sometimes often always... Keep the hands together for never .. increasingly moving them away from the prayer position to show the various adverbs of frequency. I do the exercise in choral.. and have the students perform the action whilst saying the adverbs. I also remind them that they can use this technique anywhere. You can extend the activity to where students ask each other questions in pairs.. and then swap using their hands of course. E.g. How often do you read aloud at home?.. Never.. sometimes.. etc. I believe it helps students with spatial awareness of how these adverbs function within say an hour a day a week. Percentages and clines are OK.. but the concept of frequency remains abstract. Keep up the good work.. I also subscribed.. and would love a T-shirt if you think my idea is of use...
Thank you very much for your informative and useful videos about teaching skills. Hopefully, your team will create more contents like this in the future.
You guys make great videos, thank you for that! However, may I just suggest that Dan stops pretending to hit Sian? In this day and age that should never be joked about.
would you be so kind to tell us how to have the t-shirt? I tried looking on the site BBC Learning English but to no avail! thanks in advance. Sian, Dan (and everyone else among the staff) you are super!
Loved the tips, guys. I had a question though, what if the elicitation techniques (mostly) used here don't work? You know since most of the methods used an extra student from the class who (supposedly) wasn't in the camera. I mean what if even those students in the class don't know, what do you suggest us to do then? Thanks
Sian your eyes looks wonderful, Wish i had a teacher like you, i will fall in love with my teacher ....Anyway please keep teach us with various and wonderful topics
While the scripted content of this video is great, I am very distracted by Dan's casual 'funny' mimed violence against Sian. Times 4:24 and 4:45. This kind of behaviour, even in jest, is not acceptable.
Hello everybody at 3:30 min, sean says that her **____ is found down, maybe that word is a synonym of skirt, I would like to know the word that she used there.
, It such a big help. Can you please do some videos regarding how to teach adjective that would make the students more actively participated in class. Thank you so much in advance.
Hi Abegiel Padon Thank you for your comment and suggestion. We are glad you find our series useful. You'll find the full version of this series on our website: www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/classroom_teaching
Hi Jan, thanks for your comment :) You'll find all the episodes of English on the Street on our Thai RUclips channel here: ruclips.net/channel/UCHbI0mPbb_q9tokc5RkOONA See you there!
is it possible to see the transcript of the clips, because as non-native we have problem how to spell the word such as “hicups” as you said when you were acting like people is choking.
All of this is great, but not possible with a large amount of words. I encourage Ss to use their mobile phones at certain times during the lesson, but to make sure they write down their findings and share with the others in the class. Why can't you say 'this week', 'today' etc?
Dan sometimes speaks very low. It's hard to understand. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I noticed in British films or with British actors that everyone speaks very low compared to American English speakers. The same can be observed, for example, between Lusitanian Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. I'm Brazilian. Congrats for the channel! Bye!

When vocabulary is taught in the context of their use, it becomes more meaningful and learners will remember them forever. Agreed!
I teach English here in Romania and absolutely love it. Your videos are extremely useful. Thanks a lot!

Thank for sharing tips to activate new vocabulary. Research tends to advise against learning pairs of antonyms, as it can be confusing.
