Ms. Tina Zee Tina , as a Frenchman, I could not be so thankful to you as an American , to bring me such a talent. Cheers from France America.......what a graceful time
You've summarized it so well he is the one and only that can do this kind of humor which according to today's standards would be considered scandalous. He always finishes is act with a touching conclusion.
Yes he was one of the best they all were for the most part and if you don't think so you can get on a horse and go for a ride in the mountains and don't talk to nobody you got the humor of a dead moth 😆
One of my favorite Rickles bits on a different roast was he told a joke that got some groans and boos, he said there's no booing, there's no booing, if there's another outburst we're gonna let Bob Hope get up and do his jokes!
When my Dad and step Mom got married in Vegas, they went to see Don. Don found out they were newlyweds. Ripped on them for 20+ minutes. A day or two later, they went to check out of the hotel. They were told, "No charge. Mr. Rickles has taken care of everything" Gives you an idea of the type of man he really was.
I had never heard of Don Rickles until a few weeks ago. But I have spent a lot of time watching him on here since with tears in my eyes. The man is ridiculously funny, even today and always will be. My mother passed away recently and his humour is making the grief easier to bear. God rest him.
The thing that struck me the most (apart from his comedic genius and timing) was his command of the English language. Bear in mind there was no teleprompter in this setting. He was just so articulate. Phenomenal. You don't get this level of brilliance these days.
I believe there was a teleprompter because when you see Bob Newhart’s roast he will start with the joke “Bob Newhart spot”, which I believe is shown on the teleprompter
My mom and dad went and saw him hrs after getting married in Vegas. They took my aunt and uncle with them. This was in the late 50s and only knew he was a comedian. Dad said it was amazing, he and my mom thought he was hilarious, aunt and uncle thought he was the most insensitive, vile person they ever heard. Dad saw him 3x n Vegas, buying more expensive tickets each time trying to get close enough to be insulted. The last show Don was insulting a lady next to him, looks at my dad and asks her if he was her husband, she says no, Don looks at dad and says good, it looks like gods punished him enough. Dad loved Don Rickles, and being insulted by him, was one of the highlights of his life. Lol
Some people have NO sense of humor and take themselves too seriously. Don was one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet. It's his shtick , many people can't figure that out.
I'm in my early 50s and remember seeing a lot of these guys on TV, but I was too young to really appreciate how great they were. All of this amazing humor without a single cuss word! Don Rickles is by far, my favorite comedian ever! Sometimes I wonder if he ever runs out of gas. He keeps going and going and going.
When all these great guys have passed on,the world has forgotten to laugh. They all made me laugh, and i thank them for that. Now,there's not much to laugh about anymore.
Hell, lack of profanities, listen in the back street clubs & bigger front, Don will be swearing like a trooper, this is on TV 70s & you can detect pauses in this roast where in the smoky clubs there'd be a sweary word!
Never got the chance to see Mr. Rickles in person...but in the movies, & on TV, I could see he took his craft seriously, & had fun doing it. These roasts, while outrageous, had to be worth the price of admission easily ten times over. Try doing that today, & everyone will be suing everyone else. God bless you, Mr. Rickles!
I'm 35 and only just getting to watch Don Rickles and be in tears of laughter and also truly moved by his affection for his family, friends and fan's. Got to love the internet sometimes
Was looking for dean Martin clips and came across this man...wow I've spent all day watching everything. The Reagan and Sinatra roast can't stop watching.... made my day! I was 8 when I used to watch westerns with my uncle and always enjoyed the ones with Dean.. what guys they were and still are. ❤
The way he ends all his performance with a great note on spreading kindness and saying thanks. Puts a biggest smile for the viewers. I wish I came to know of him earlier than I should have. Thanks Don.
RIP Don Rickles was the best. I have watched these original Dean Martin Roasts over and over again. Genuinely funny no bad language needed or coarseness. You can actually feel the love in the room. My favourites were Jonathan Winters roast of Frank Sinatra and every Foster Brooks roast.
Don Rickles is definitely a great comedian, truly one of the best, his humble and sincere ending monologues have to be a big part of his success, i feel very sad to say, that level of comedy will only be found in the archives, a new age has dawned. Thank you Mr Rickles for many years of great entertainment.
Such talent. It's just not his material or his presentation it's the ad lib, the ability to improvise in those 'off the cuff' moments. You can't teach that.
Yea, that's what I loved the most of Don. He's my favourite, because everything he said was just brought out of the box. Sure he repeated somethings in his act, but most was just thought of at that moment. That's someone special. People who got offended, or didn't like his comedy were/are just wound too freakin tight!
...that last min or so , Don had me in tears with his genuine compassion !! I am 56 on 5/18 and ALWAYS loved these shows that are now called " Classic's " .....Thank you RUclips ! Shows like this and songs of the now past bring out our, Emotion reminds us of when we were young !
Beautiful ending..had me in tears! He was right about that....the best blessing in this life is having good heath & " people around you who CARE!" very moving words!
Absolute brilliant , I am so sad that I only know about Don like a week ago and binge watching since then. The best comedian I have seen perfect timing , no profanity or valugurity , excellent speaker and a good gentleman. RIP Don Rickles.
I remember growing up and watching these roasts and Don was always one of the best. His wit and timing always seemed to catch people off guard even though they knew that it was coming at some point. All in fun and never taken seriously. What has happened to the world today with every word we speak causing someone to file a lawsuit. Chill out people before we are banned from even speaking to each other.
I love that it's 2019.. almost 2020.. and one of the few things I like about the internet is getting to see Don Rickles crack me up all these years later. When you really need a laugh it doesn't get much better than Rickles. My parents loved him and it carried over to me. Hard to imagine his incredible brand of humor and put downs going over today in this world of political correctness. This was truly when people could laugh at themselves and take a joke. I would definitely put him in the top 10 all time greatest comedians. The only time you're not laughing hysterically at what he says is when he gets to the end and shows what a truly great human being he was! They really don't make them like this anymore... and that's a shame!
In 1977 I was in the clubhouse at Sportsman's Park in Chicago for the night racing card when I spotted Rickles at a table nearby. I gathered my nerve, got ready to be insulted, and took my program over and asked for an autograph -- politely. To my surprise Rickles asked my name, introduced me to the folks he was with, and offered to buy me a drink. I declined the drink, chit-chatted for a minute or so -- small talk about racing -- he signed my program, and I went back to my seat. I was at one of his last performances in Pasadena in 2016. I brought the same program he signed in 1977 at Sportsman's Park and took it back stage after the show. Now that program has two signatures on it. I'll never forget meeting him because he was the nicest celebrity I ever met.
That's what made him so phenomenal. He had a few jokes/references he used throughout his whole career, but he changed them in subtle ways each time. Aside from that, he was all improv and never wrote anything down. That's amazing
I’m not crying, you’re crying. Even through his fam, the friends he had, the career that grew and grew over the decade. Don stayed incredibly humble. Mr Rickles you’re a legend and forever remain as one even after passing.
I could see the balance of marvelous jokes at the beginning, during and the wonderful closing that hearltly touches the audience. And that makes this man different.
priceless! tks for posting! i remember he played a sailor in run silent run deep with clark gable and burt lancaster..his clark gable is as good as any!
When these guys all passed away or became too old to perform, my county's since of humor went with them. There's was a world without political correctness. None of these entertainers took themselves too seriously. I wonder what Mr. Rickles would have to say about the less than user friendly world we live in today?
Chris Roberts I dont know about the funniest but he is up there....Norm Macdonald is a genius....None were greater than Rickles though....Ask any comedian and they will agree
I’ve watched a lot of Don Rickles lately and there’s a certain rhythm to his roasts. He goes in pretty vicious but always ends being lighthearted and sincere. That’s is something that you don’t see anymore at the modern roasts!
a fond memory for me is my parents laughing in unison to these roasts and all the participants...yes, they were confident it wouldn't be 'too much for the kids',...and it wasn't. completely entertaining!
Don Rickles, one of the funniest men to ever appear on camera and it sure seems like one of the better human beings in Hollywood. Gone but never forgotten.
I can watch these and enjoy them. The roasts done over the past few years are just crude and gross. No class, no great performers. I'm glad these were recorded!
"Just keep drinking and say to yourself "your voice is not gone"". Don Rickles is so quick and sharp I wish we could have this quality again today. Colin Quinn and the boyz are the only hope now
I had a double honor..first, I got to interview "The Don" and he couldn't have been nicer..and genuinely modest. A few years later, I saw him live in Vegas and among a few audience members he targeted, he called me a "Nazi bastard"..one of the great moments of my life. lol Truly 1 of a kind..there will never be another Rickles.
The Don RICKLES Roast was the ABSOLUTE BEST! I LOVE HIS HUMOR! Could watch him nonstop!! God Bless us all and thank you GOOD LORD for giving this world the humor and all the great laughter anyone ever received from DON RICKLES!!!
Brilliant man, brilliant actor and though he can gut you better than a fish one of the sincerest guys in Hollywood. Rickles is a must see on the JOHNNY CARSON show, he's off the leash. As always, a very gracious ending, "Thank you", put tears in my eyes. One of the funniest, insightful men God ever made, Rickles can tear up the world.
I don't know how many times I have come back to watch this vid. I can only say that I have not seen a Video on you tube more offen than this one. And there is a reason for this. Not only do I also enjoy reading all of the wonderful and inspiring comments below, but I also have the same thought at the end of this vid, and that is "Man everything truely was better back then" .... Naive? Maybe.... Is it true? For some yes but not for all.... Can we all learn something from this?..... Hell yeah!
He is really one of a kind! Comes up with jokes on the fly, finds himself quickly, keeps serious all the way. Wow, what a comodian. Don still makes us lough. May he rest in peace!
I honestly think when Don said "I married a Valium", that that was his funniest joke of all time. As many times as he cracked that joke, it never received the laughter he thought it deserved. But he kept on using it. I will always miss him.
Just absolute class acts all of them. I'm 72 and grew up laughing with not only these guys but The Honey Mooners, Carol Burnett and so many others who proved you don't need profanity to be legends in their own right. To be fair there are great comics today who think the same way.
This is unbeleiveable, not just how funny Rickles is, but how his ending statement resonated with me, the whole thing about being different and how God may look down upon you. I am not different in the way he was, but I am certainly different and I try my best to be best I can for everybody in my life and sometimes it feels like I'm not appreciated for it. But I only hope that God looks favourably upon me for it.
So many of these great actors are gone. Telly Savalas, Foster Brooks, Dean Martin, Nipsey Russel, Foster Brooks and the one and only Don Rickles. Loved all of them RIP. I know your putting on a great show in Heaven
This is CLASS . Not people making crude and hideous " jokes " about peoples family members dying in the World Trade Center attacks. And roasts like this are 20000000000 times better than the shit we have now
Only man i know who could make fun of any culture and no one ever felt offended because it was Don......what a comedian, what a man. Miss all these great actors!
"When you’re different, your heart is open to a little ache."
Bless you, Don Rickles, wherever you are!

He was the sweetest guy. I saw him a few times. It was obvious how much he cared. And how much he loved what he did.

Don Rickles also inflicted the humor back on himself with his wife saying the wedding night was 'really exciting."

Very clever and much loved comedian. You have to notice the lack of profanities in his act making him, in my opinion, one of the greatest of them all!
True, but live, he uses profanities throughout his show. Its too bad really as he doesn't need it and these shows are proof.

Naive? Maybe.... Is it true? For some yes but not for all.... Can we all learn something from this?..... Hell yeah!
He is really one of a kind! Comes up with jokes on the fly, finds himself quickly, keeps serious all the way. Wow, what a comodian. Don still makes us lough. May he rest in peace!
Very funny guy with great talent. Ended the night with a classy wrap up that showed true heart. I have always loved and "understood" him.
He's indiscriminate and I love it! He gives it to everybody equally
Corey A. Moore
He is the master of cut up. He is and will forever be my favorite!
he makes you bust a gut laughing and ends it with something that brings a tear to your eye. like only the don can. 90 years wasnt enough. miss ya don
This guy is a class above the rest. The Goat!
Being a kid and watching this, so much went over my head, my dad laughing his ass off, now I get it so many years later, I so miss those days.
saw him in Vagas in the 80's; utterly superb and thought provoking. He is greatly missed.
This kind talents will never born again. He is just brilliant.
Pure class Don Rickles. Never see his like again.
We lost one of the greatest comedians. In this world. And a man of integrity.
So many of these great actors are gone. Telly Savalas, Foster Brooks, Dean Martin, Nipsey Russel, Foster Brooks and the one and only Don Rickles. Loved all of them RIP. I know your putting on a great show in Heaven
Our family favorite comedian. Thanks Don.
Miss all these great actors!
such a funny man, I miss him. there will never be another one like him. Class Act.
Great stuff, I grew up watching these greats!! How could anyone give this a thumbs down??
The fact that he roasts everyone but Gene, really shows how much class Don had. Bravo.
Actually, you forgot one. He didn't roast Foster Brooks either.
He was so fast with the pokes, l still am trying to catch part one!😄
Mr.Rickles was a true one of a kind. And I say this from the bottom of my heart. I never liked the man. :). In fact I loved him. You are missed. RIP
One of the Greatest Of All Times...
