The horsepower of that massive blower at the quarry must be gargantuan! That must be casting snow 300 - 400 away from the lip of the quarry. Impressive.
There's a lot of things that I don't understand about how Montreal does its snow clearing. At 23:00, my city would do a snow pile that large in a single pass. I don't know what it is about Montreal specifically, but they seem to really like to move snow around several times before they send the snow blower in. Sherbrooke used to do that, but nowadays, they absolutely cannot be arsed to do that. They pile it up after the snow storms in 2 passes. The first one ensures that the street is clear by 5 in the morning the night after the storm. The second pass is done the next night and compresses the snow piles and leaves just in the right location for the snow blower to do its job. I could be wrong, but the snow blowers that they use are more powerful. The safety guy walking in front has to walk rather quickly just to stay ahead.
Always pros and cons to the geographic locations chosen to build big cities. Montreal is no exception. Montreal and the ports of the St. Lawrence river and sea-way makes for an awesome place to build a big city with millions of people but the amount of snowfall is a big problem and huge expense. Being an island has its own set of challenges. I can imagine the budget for dealing with the snow is enormous each year. Edit: ok I just saw that it costs 170 million per year for snow Plowing and removal. Huge money
@@hailong_Vlog Yes each year more and more. That’s an incredible amount of money just for snow removal, 3% of the annual budget! I actually thought it would be more than 3%
14:57 That's incorrect. There's actually 2 quarries in that neighborhood. The other one was a garbage dump. The one used as a snow dump does not have any garbage in it. The one being used as a snow dump is called the Francon quarry while the other one is the Miron quarry. The Miron quarry is now known as the Saint-Michel environmental complex. Francon is the Eastern quarry while Miron is the Western Quarry.
Does anybody know what happens to all the salt treatment and liquid ice melt that is in the snow they Blow into the woods and seeps into the water ways ... And water you drink???? Just a question.....
