It is so nice to see other countries and cultures enjoying the food from the Southern states of the USA . Being from Tennessee from a family that goes back to the founding of the state All of the southern states food is beyond description very hearty and seasoned we like to say we season our food not by measuring it but until our ancestors whisper that good child .
There's a channel called The Brits Try (Andrew and Nicola are there names) They are from the UK but live in California now. Anyway, 2 days ago they uploaded a Philly video where they went and tried multiple cheesesteak restaurants. They always do a rating at the end of their videos, picking a winner. I hope you watch it to get an idea of where the best (or worst) places are. They even mention how much each sandwich costs. Some of the condiments they added left me a little speechless however. (Mustard and ketchup????) Yikes. Anyway, when they announced the winner, I was surprised! Have a great week guys. Buckling down for Hurricane Milton here in Florida. Prayers for all my fellow Floridians.
I watch this channel as well. They are from Manchester, the same city as Daz and Gaynor. I agree, watching them put ketchup, mustard and relish on a Philly cheese made me cringe. 😂 Luckily they went to Angelo's at the end because Gino's and Pat's are tourist traps that are mid-level at best.
@@bigplanett I thought they were from Machester too, and almost mentioned that but I wasnt 100% sure! ;-) Yeah, when they put the relish on, I was gagging. lol
Whenever food has been cooked properly, even pork, you don't have "to be in the mood" for whatever it is... The smells will put you "in the mood" and make you start craving it immediately....
North Carolinian here. I actually have been to Sam Jones BBQ a few times. We actually have two styles of pulled pork BBQ in NC. First is Eastern style which is whole hog BBQ, which is superior and what they had. It has a more tangy vinegar based sauce typically. This is the dominate BBQ style in the state. The second is Western style (also sometimes called Lexington style) which usually uses just the pork shoulder and has a tomato based sauce that is generally sweeter and smokier. I like both, but definitely prefer Eastern whole hog.
@spacehonky6315 that's a South Carolina thing. Doesn't really exist in NC. The funny part is the SC BBQ restaurant that has won the most awards serves Eastern NC whole hog BBQ 😂
My grandfather is the only person I’ve known to drink a 7 and 7. He’d go down to the VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars, every Wednesday night and order one and hang out with the guys for a couple hours. Some of my favorite memories were sitting and listening to their stories.
to make a good Philly Cheese steak at home you need to have a counter top meat slicer to get the thinness correct. Meat needs to be a little frozen when you run in through the slicer as well.
The next time you come to the US, buy a variety of canned beans that are not Heinz and see how they compare. When I was growing up, we would have pork and beans and wieners. Either take canned beans and add sliced hotdogs, or you could buy the canned beans with hotdogs already in them.
Collard greens are amazing if cooked right. I think Jolly always gets bad greens. There shouldn't be much vinegar if any at all. I dont put vinegar in mine i just cook ot with a smoked ham shank and season it with a Cajun seasoning blend.
Would be awesome if you could do a LIVE stream once you’re in USA. Have a feeling if you do it at 8pm EST when you are here in USA you may get some views and live back and forth with subscribers
"where else can you get an entire pig chopped and cooked to perfection" Believe it or not? Hawaii! It's obviously different but has a similar idea. They cook the whole hog underground in an Imu (they cover the pig in Ti leaves) and let it cook for a long ass time. Obviously you can't "out season" the southern region of the United States of America so if you're used to a Southern whole hog? Hawaiian style will be different. However it's definitely seasoned more than our friends over the pond do (sorry British friends!😂❤) Also just gonna say to anyone reading, if you've been to a tourist-y "Luau" on a resort here, then you haven't been to a *real* Luau. Just like any other other touristy spot , they're gonna cut corners and give you an experience that isn't the real deal ! :)
NC Guy. CheerWine and SunDrop and BBQ....! Hush-puppies...... Have a Liver-Mush biscuit too....! ( pan fried, NOT Deep-Fried ) Cook-OUT.....Fast and Cheap and YEAH
Collard greens are definitely an acquired taste. I was born here in NC ,and I despise them… they are waxy yet somehow gritty and bitter greens. In my opinion Turnip greens are far more palatable while still being a bitter green.
I know this is a Jolly react but honestly most US people would probably react to tasting that goodness lol. I remember (as a Cali native) going on frequent visits to Houston and I was a gluttonous pig there. Wondering how this is not everywhere.
It’s a totally different taste. We do make our own beans that you would have with meat, heavier and sweet. The canned beans we have on toast or with breakfast. A lot lighter and more tomato tasting.
There are too many good sides in barbecue for me to ever order greens. It’s baked beans, and Mac and cheese, or creamy coleslaw, or fried okra, or hush puppies. Greens are ok, but I never order it.
There's more to the USA than just the south east And Texas....hope when y'all come back y'all check out other regions of the country and their cuisine. That's Just a small portion of the country
I was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. I love to see people from around the world enjoying Sam Jones barbecue, Cheerwine, and all the stuff I grew up with.

Thinking of you all, and praying that you all stay safe ❤
@@limeygaynor Thank you, Gaynor! 🥰

Daz and Gaynor used to work and live in the USA. Daz knows where to go.
Omg owner Sam is smart and funny as hell! "well, that was a terrible anecdote but I know where you were headin' with it." haha
A smoked chicken BBQ with that Carolina vinegar sauce is also wonderful.

I think that is the Raleigh location. I live about 15 minutes away from the original location in Pitt County. I love their BBQ.
Fire-tower rd,?😊
You can always add a little brown sugar and chopped onions to your beans
and jalapeno bits and bacon or sausage bits with a side of corn bread.
I live in the heart of BBQ heaven .. That location is in Raleigh , you must go to the original place in Ayden
I really enjoy you all's reactions. It really ties things together that you've had such extensive living and experiences in the States. Keep it up!

I like Carolina mustard style on pork. Is that actually a thing? You didn't mention it.

daz when you go to philly the 3 top spots you should check out for cheese steak is angelos, johns roast pork and dalessandros !! enjoy !
Haven't heard of John's, but I concur fully with the other two. Avoid Pat's and Gino's.
Hell yeah Daz get the food in! Hope yall have a great time and hopefully do a few vids!
Adam needs a t-shirt that says "Im not Lawrence." Great vid, folks!

My Mom would make pork beans with hot dogs and we called it beans and weenies. 😆
We just had pork and beans with hot dogs in it at my house like, 4 days ago! 😂
What's crazy is the Brits love Heinz, which is American made from an American company.

I make my greens with smoked turkey and chicken broth. No vinegar. Collard greens are great and very popular.
7&7 in the Carolinas to me mean.. Seagrams seven & 7up with ice
I love collards greens.
Come visit Charlotte, NC. You’ll drive about an hour to get to it but you NEED to try a bbq place called Jon G‘s in Peachland.
It is pepper vinegar , I put it on greens or red beans.
My Mother in law always drank 7-7’s 😁 might be a Northern or Midwestern thing? Im in the Upper Midwest near Chicago. Cheers!! 😊
I’d drive hours to eat that food.

Jersey Mike's big kahuna cheesesteak is pretty good for a chain sandwich.
I am missing some amazing pork belly right now.

I’ve had BBQ that was mustard based. I didn’t like, I guess I wasn’t used to it.
We don't use Vinager in America as much as Europe, it kills flavor. Banana pudding is a staple in BBQ joints.
Eastern NC BBQ should be American standard BBQ.
When in Manhattan, go to Magnolia Bakery for its banana pudding. When British vloggers are in Manhattan, they become addicted to it.
My Aunt was making that Banana Pudding that Magnolia Bakery claims for the last 70+ years.
Do people in the UK make their own beans or do they only eat them canned?
It’s a totally different taste. We do make our own beans that you would have with meat, heavier and sweet. The canned beans we have on toast or with breakfast. A lot lighter and more tomato tasting.
Fair warning. When you get a true Philly cheese steak, it will be made with Cheez Whiz, not provolone.
Dax, steady pace when you start smashing food. Don’t blow a gasket internally.

Not everyone puts vinegar in their greens. In fact, I don’t think anyone in my family uses vinegar in their greens.
Do you Brits have banana pudding in the UK?
No, not like that. It would just be like a mix with milk. Like babies have.
I was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. I love to see people from around the world enjoying Sam Jones barbecue, Cheerwine, and all the stuff I grew up with.
1 criticism... not using the tastiest part of the hog -- the facial cheeks. but probably best not to mix them with the lesser pork.
What have you heard from Sophie
👍👍
Auto spell Daz
It's not a whole hog without the head
I apologize in advanced? Most of the food in the U.S. originates out of slavery. Check the history.
Who names their kid Aiden?
It’s in the top 15 names in the USA, so I’m guessing a shit load of people 😂
It’s AidAn actually 🤭
its actually a very popular name in many countries in the world. My nephew named his son Aidan. :P
