yeah.... you could really tell they hadn't spent any time with them before this. Some might say that's a good thing. Go at it like anyone would. Fresh. I could see it maybe bothering some people looking for shortcuts...aka... settings to copy. but, i do agree. you should know how to use the pedal if you are expected to do a video promoting it in an effort for sales. I don't really care though. it's all fun stuff.
Hey - I bought the Dispatch Master after I saw this vid! Having no prior knowledge (it's obvious) was actually better for me to get an honest look at it. I actually revisited this video to see another I want to buy now.
literally took some of the most creative pedals ever and made them sound like shit! i thought the electro harmonix videos with their rock riffs were bad
that's my issue with most of the modulation effects from eq. Even the arpanoid arpeggior, which could be useful for inspiration doesn't have the precision needed for actual use in a song. their delay, reverb, and distortion pedals are unmatched at the price range though.
Dennis Evans I feel like their effects would be much more useful if you could set them more exactly. For example notches on the exact intervals on the rainbow machine or some way to edit the patterns on the arpanoid and maybe a midi sync for them timing. Since these pedals are digital anyway stuff like that should not be too difficult.
sadly falls well short in crucial design implement they should have *at least* included an LFO to turn that 'drag' knob for you, or included an expression-pedal input. as it is, getting that 'cool sound' requires two people ....or very good balance while playing barefoot (those Davies' knobs are the worst to try to turn with your foot...)
@@shaft9000 For reals, if they revise it to add an expression pedal either directly or have the connector to hook up an outboard one then there's a reasonable chance of me buying one.
I have a challenge for you guys that I think could be cool: £250 budget for pedals, can only pick one brand per pedal so can't just have tone city etc, could then see who between Chappers and Capt gives the best selection. could be fun seeing what they can come up with on a small budget
+Alex Curtis nah 40 quid minimum for a good pedal. They go up to about £350 for super hi tech digital and even £600 for real tape echo. Most pedals are about £100 tho
Got the Rainbow Machine yesterday. This thing does a lot more than just make whacked-out noises. You can get some more "useful" sounds out of it if you want them. It's a winner!
Laura Fotze yeah I could see using it in place of a synth if you want to get close to the sound of overdubbing a guitar part whilst running it through a synth with various parameters.
I’m getting one this week and can’t wait. I’ve always gone towards the Hendrix style pedals a wah, fuzz, octave and Uni- Vibe but now pedals like the Rainbow Machine have me excited to go in a new direction. I’ve always loved ambient sound and I used to have to buy a synth/keyboard to achieve those sounds. Now I could use the Rainbow machine to explore soundscapes I’ve never been able to achieve on a guitar which to me is an amazing thing. Technology is 2019 is amazing and I’m really looking forward to seeing where technology is in the next 5-10 years
I've decided that I hate it when Cap'n twists the knobs. He does it so randomly and rapidly and doesn't wait to hear the results, especially on something like long delay or resonant reverbs. I'd prefer it if he kept his fiddling fingers to himself and only adjusted the settings occasionally and purposefully. Otherwise it's annoying as frack and I still have no idea what the pedals really sound like.
So nice to see some clean tones coming from your guitar Rob. Really shows how diverse you are. Come out from behind the distortion more often. We need it.
I own an afterneath, it's the best reverb pedal I've ever used and use it exclusively now, even over my Alesis midiverb 2 rack effect. It has the potential to make any reverb tone imaginable. Earthquaker are awesome.
I love this review of the Spatial Delivery because every other one focuses on the generic envelope filter/auto wah thing that it does and never focuses on the part that makes the pedal unique (when the toggle switch is in the middle).
"The Rainbow Machine is random, scary, worrying, and disturbing and will give me nightmares." I think that's their marketing brief for it! (I have one and love it to death)
+Est del it's mainly a pedal friendly amp cause of its clean tone but the key to the drive channel is to turn up the amp and have the drive at about 4-5
I was able to tour the Earthquaker hq during an annual festival they put on in Akron. It was awesome to see a company based in Ohio doing such awesome stuff for guitarist.
"I'd use all of them" - Chappers. Ok, Chappers. I dare you, on behalf of all your fans, to write and record a song where you use all these pedals and make it legit, like you are going to put it in an album. Note: you can only use these pedals combined with one overdrive/distortion pedal of choice. Miku is optional but encouraged. Good luck :D
You guys really liked that special delivery:) it was about as fun to watch you guys enjoy yourselves as it was to hear the pedal itself. This is why I love you tea drinking crumpet eating bois. Graft vid and as always great demo!
i think its probably cos cap just wants to get shit done, and chappers is just a big man baby and wants to play and mess around for hours. or at least until its time for a rusk and a nap :D
guys it's not often I post on channels . U 2 have a great chem. It works. I do love the Abbott and Costello antics. I am a wood worker- blacksmith that is starting out in guitar and banjo. And have tuned in to learn some fun stuff and u have given that. I live in Johns MS. Have sat and had lunch with BB king yes i'm that old. Cheers From Mississippi........
Love me some Earthquaker Devices! Great demo, always enjoy your take on gear. Glad to see EQD at Andertons, grew up nearby "scenic Akron, Ohio" so it gives you that "local boys" doing good feeling. Have three pedals from them and love them all (especially my Terminal Fuzz"!) and their pedals play so nice together. Saw them do a live demo recently and the Humming Bird and Bit Commander together sounded like soundtrack for the apocalypse material.. Stunningly awesome!
I have the Depths, the best U Vibe type pedal I have ever used. Their pedals will make crazy sounds, but I've found that backing them off a bit is where the magic happens.
Well, I don't really have the time or expertise to make a coherent video tutorial, but here's a picture of the settings I used: tinyurl.com/jj7ncy2 It's far from a perfect recreation, but it's a good place to start getting those same sounds. Hope it helps.

8 mo's later - first deal of 2019 - intro and tracks for a tarot card reader on youtube and intre-net-lol..... now this video, is exactly why you guys help musicians - spent last 9 mo's gearing up for my fuzz release - now i have to do ambient and expression - and Earth Quaker Devices - has pedals that will make this happen real quik like - thnx TPS-Andertons
Thats an awesome tune but its not the one The Captain was on about and i dont think anyone would ever ever mistake it for 80s pop. Im sorry but you are terribly wrong.
I LOVE Earthquaker pedals my board is 90% Earthquaker. The only con I can think of with them (but not really a con depending on the person) is with a lot of their pedals there's soooooo much options with the knobs a lot of times I don't even know where to start. I can kill a whole day tweeking knobs going back and forth with trying to write something. I know some people aren't fans of having too many "options" and just want to set it and forget it, but I like the many variables in a pedal. I have a Disaster Transport, Afterneath, Nightwire, Hoof and a Sea Machine. After this though I'm thinking of getting that Spatial Delivery as well. Keep up the good work guys, I love our channel!
almost $200 for a gimmicky pedal that you can only use for like one song in a set? I want it but I only about $80 want it. I don't $200 want it, sorry EQ devices.
brutalbeetle The Afterneath and Dispatch Master are anything but gimmick pedals. They are essentials on any board and worth every penny. EQD makes awesome stuff!!
It strikes me that perhaps the Magic switch (as distinct from Activate) is meant to be reserved for particularly magical moments rather than on all the time.
A masterclass in 70s porno music
I SCROLLED THROUGH THE COMMENTS JUST TO FIND THIS KIND OF COMMENT
Happy to oblige!
I watch 70's porn for the music.
+Matt Dickey I watch porn with disbelief as the pizza delivery guy gets laid
I wondered why my pizza delivery guy has a twinkle in his eye when he delivers!!
You couldn't get two people less suited to reviewing Earthquaker pedals
lol

You think rainbow and you think bright and happy but it sounds more dark and horrorish
makes a pretty cool 'slightly out of tune' chorus, thats what i use mine for
Play it loud for a second, look up in the sky and say "Look, aliens flying a Cessna!"
Holy shit the afterneath is absolutely incredible
check out the transmisser
I have both the afterneath and the transmisser.
I love both.
sadly falls well short in crucial design implement

+Alex Curtis A good pedal is usually above 150€ with good distribution pedals being about 50-70€ cheaper.
+Alex Curtis some go that low, but they can go for a lot more (i.e. the JHS AT, which is $220)
Dude, 250 IS a very small budget for pedals.
I wish that was true
+Alex Curtis nah 40 quid minimum for a good pedal. They go up to about £350 for super hi tech digital and even £600 for real tape echo. Most pedals are about £100 tho
Now play them all with a Korg Miku
Yes.
YES
yes (lets do a chain!)
Yes
Yes
That Afterneath sounds like a perfect post-rock tool!
Or maybe even dream pop/shoegaze
Logan Palmer a resounding yes to both
I play shoegaze and use one.
Bought one to fulfill my dream pop guilty pleasure.
Not ganna lie the way Chapman was first playing the Spatial Delivery pedal was actually really relaxing and kept going back to listen to it.
Got the Rainbow Machine yesterday. This thing does a lot more than just make whacked-out noises. You can get some more "useful" sounds out of it if you want them. It's a winner!

@@jordandangelo6712 I have a pair of them now. I bought a V2 a month or so ago. Combining the two is super awesome and takes things waaaaay out.
"Six Knobs and a Wizard" is now the name of my latest project
A seven piece band..ouch
Shove 'em all in one pedal and call it the Vangelis.
good use of the word "shove"
Blades of Fire... or Chariot Runner.
why vangelis and not antonis?
hahaha
hey thats my name
I totally love that first pedal.
aka sample and hold, with a cool auto wah/envelope follower if I'm not mistaken?
+Quikdeth it's like a step phaser
Same here! The Mooer Ocean has similar tones too.
These pedals are pretty awesome, its like getting a nice ambient keyboard behind what your playing
Jeremy Hale you're*
I've decided that I hate it when Cap'n twists the knobs. He does it so randomly and rapidly and doesn't wait to hear the results, especially on something like long delay or resonant reverbs. This video screams Pink Floyd...Loving these sounds, guys!
The pedal at 2:48 sounds like rhcp throw away your television
+Julius Miller im pretty sure its just a phaser
I watched this then looked up pink Floyd right after. haven't listened to them in years.
it is the same effect, its called a seek wah. John uses a line 6 fm4 to get the tone
Totally agree, especially the second pedal
So nice to see some clean tones coming from your guitar Rob. Really shows how diverse you are. Come out from behind the distortion more often. We need it.
Everyone just watch the YT channel "Knobs"
Yes. There's lots of knock off knob channels now
Especially since Knobs is a nice guy and doesn't bully other guitarists on youtube.
3 years later and thank you, I just found it.
Spatial delivery is that preset on all zoom multi fx. Love it.
Stuart Begley yes it is , you and me are the only ones to spot that so far in the comments.
Haha yes
I have the Zoom 505ii. I picked the sound out. I just wish the Zoom pedals were more gig friendly.
It's also on the Digitech Rp pedals, under the effect "square filter"
The Spacial Delivery pedal sounds like the music to a conspiracy theory video ahahahaa
"Not the type of pedal you'll right a whole album with."
A Perfect Circle with 2nd pedal:
Hold my beer
I own an afterneath, it's the best reverb pedal I've ever used and use it exclusively now, even over my Alesis midiverb 2 rack effect. It has the potential to make any reverb tone imaginable. Earthquaker are awesome.
The Miku should always be on standby for pedals like these.
Just ordered a Spatial Delivery from Andertons, can't wait for it😍
The aftermath kinda sounds like Robert Fripp' s entire career in a pedal
Afterneath
I thought the same only with Trey Anastasio instead.
ahah! good one!
ahah! funny!
I love this review of the Spatial Delivery because every other one focuses on the generic envelope filter/auto wah thing that it does and never focuses on the part that makes the pedal unique (when the toggle switch is in the middle).
"The Rainbow Machine is random, scary, worrying, and disturbing and will give me nightmares."
I think that's their marketing brief for it! (I have one and love it to death)
Band Name of the Year - Six Knobs and a Wizard
Can we please get a t shirt with the captains face that says "Ill twiddle while you fiddle"
I like the way you guys twiddle with each other's knobs.
The first pedal reminded me of the nintendo wii tracks
Forgot I Had the CC’s on and at around 2:00 it just kept saying “wow wow” over and over again. Love it
The dispatch master is a fantastic pedal. I got it a couple of months ago and it hasn't left my pedal board once
Just bought my ED Pyramids Flanger and to say that I had fun is such an understatement...I had a blast with it! Such delightful pedals!
The afterneath pedal reminds me of the game Firewatch :D
chappers always puts a smile on my face, thanks for always sharing your good mood with your audience!
Damn that was some nice blues playing by the Captain!
this is the first time i've heard a Fender hot rod's drive channel sound decent.
Same
Same - I don't know why some people think they're so good because I think they only do good cleans.
+Est del it's mainly a pedal friendly amp cause of its clean tone but the key to the drive channel is to turn up the amp and have the drive at about 4-5
Check out pro guitar shops demo. Great drive channel. Not for metal though
Maybe it's the Creamback in that one. I think that is a special edition hotrod
I feel like I've heard literally EVERY single one of these pedals used in some Post-Rock song.
I was able to tour the Earthquaker hq during an annual festival they put on in Akron. It was awesome to see a company based in Ohio doing such awesome stuff for guitarist.
the Earthquaker Devices HOOF fuzz is absolutely EPIC!!
and the tone reaper @tony93666
+tony93666 +Jonathan Murphree Hoof Reaper is the two in one with an analog octave up. It's a fuzz monster.
Love the Hoof.
Two years late, but agreed. The Hoof is just beautiful.
6:30 I half expected you to start playing Dire, Dire Docks with that progression

I really like the captains blues playing
Afterneath - the pedal named after a driving instruction along the M4, South Wales.
Seems to be some tension between Rob and the Cap in this video.
yeh
true
In the last few to me.
Mostly banter though
i think its probably cos cap just wants to get shit done, and chappers is just a big man baby and wants to play and mess around for hours. or at least until its time for a rusk and a nap :D
YESSSS ! Finally a review for Earth Quaker pedals ! Thanks Rob and Captain :) !
Something tells me Jimi Hendrix would have loved these.
There's something beautiful about the uniqueness of these pedals. It's really refreshing.
the captain has been practicing!!! yaaaay
Lee with that Spatial Delivery, just wow!
you should have tested the forst pedal together with distortion and gain!\m/
forst=first
Finally blues riffs through EQD Pedals! Dreams do come true!
Why not use an A/B switch instead of passing the cable back and forth?
I love how Rob just plays and haves fun with the pedals.
I dont hate EarthQuaker devices but they feel like the craft beer of pedals.
Maarten Vanderbeeken lmao
Dude this comment is so spot on lol.
so what your saying is they are the best pedals?
Lol you probably drink Natty light
@@siahfishin5295 yes!
The 2nd and last pedal were amazing. So much chill.
Someone needs to create a delay pedal and call it "social distancing"
Just got an Afterneath today. Took a while to stop it oscillating and feeding back endlessly, but twisting the right knobs to the left did the trick.
Favorite pedal brand

RAINBOW MACHINE!!!! ❤️
I actually fell asleep last night watching this. It was soothing and I slept like a baby. Thanks you guys!
now play them with distortion
This video is very amusing. It reminded me of two kids playing original Nintendo. "Okay, okay. My turn, my turn, my turn." Absolutely charming
I may have just bought myself a Rainbow Machine after this video......
Btw The Capt totally figured out the best use of the Spatial Delivery I have heard! Looping and soloing with it sounded fantastic!
the first one sounds like Portal XD
I see you comment on literally all of the chappers and Anderson's vids lol :)

Finally got my Spatial Delivery, just arrived today. Tons of fun. I'm gonna run my Miku into it tomorrow.
I feel like I might be able to replicate the Rainbow Machine using the Grain Delay stock plugin in Ableton Live.

Well, I don't really have the time or expertise to make a coherent video tutorial, but here's a picture of the settings I used:

It's far from a perfect recreation, but it's a good place to start getting those same sounds. Hope it helps.

Noice! Thanks man. Gonna try it as soon as I get home
That demo Rob was doing with the Spatial Delivery was the nicest I've heard him play
How to shoegaze
Totally.
More psychedelic to me
The little jam that Captain played with the Spatial Delivery so groovy. I might have to get one of those.
the afterneath sounds like the sort of stuff you'd get on an early muse b side
Give an example?
Its not really a b side but listen the little sound effects on the songs cave and uno. But really just listen to any of muses b sides like ashamed, shrinking universe or forced in because they all have wired flanger type sound effects that remind me of these pedals
Stephen Barlow oh yeah i know exactly what you mean. ive never been much of a muse fan but these tracks are amazing!
