Spencer, you do great work. However, I think you're in the wrong business as most neglected or abandoned buildings have poison ivy or oak. If the property isn't totally cleaned, the things you left continue to grow
Liked your streetside work, connected the sidewalk system and visibility. The driveway made a "large clean area". Liked seeing the front yard return. Glad you recognized the Poison Ivy and avoided it. You still made a dent in the back. Nice work.
Once you've been in a face-off against a raccoon, you'll understand. They have a raspy, sharp growl that gets into your bones. - I'll never again get in a dispute with a raccoon. If it steals food off my plate at a picnic, I must have used the wrong table.

One time, when I was working for my sister and brother in law doing odd jobs and landscaping including mowing grass, they had a white bar wooden fence that was for decoration that ran around the back of their in ground pool. This fence was completely covered in vines of all kinds and she wanted them cleaned off. Not knowing any better, she gave me a weed wacker and told me to go to it ( they were paying for my college education so I was pretty much indebted to them for my life and probably my first borne child) lol. I didn’t realize until after I had finished the job that what I had just pulverized in that mess was a good deal of poison ivy. Now I don’t know what any of you know about hyper or hypo desensitization, but basically what it boils down to is that if you expose yourself to a certain amount of a substance, either all at once or over a long period of time, the body can form a super resistant reaction to the substance, thus rendering you immune to its effects. Now after I was finished I was covered from head to toe, in my mouth and my nose and quite possibly in my lungs. Now my body evidently had 2 different ways to deal with this situation. One it could just shut down my immune systems and negate any reaction to poison ivy then or ever or or it could have sent me into severe anaphylactic shock, closing down my airways, shutting my eyes, nose and mouth and swelling my body up to 4x its normal size. Like I said, I was covered, head to toe, definitely in my mouth and nose and quite definitely in my lungs. I should also point out that previously I have always had a pretty good reaction to poison ivy with the normal rash that most people get when exposed to it. But this time NADA. GO FIGURE. I GUESS GOD HAS SOMETHING IN STORE FOR ME HOWEVER I AM CURRENTLY 68 YEARS OLD AND HAVE A laundry list of ailments and it’s a miracle that I have lasted this long. So again WTF.
Nice of the neighbor to stop by and "encourage" you. A great job on a tough place. Even though I don't live around there, I do appreciate what you do for "all" of us. Thanks again.
Beautiful transformation! I hope someone somehow takes ownership of the house and is able to flip it. But from what I was able to gather, the structure is so bad that it probably needs to be razed and rebuilt from scratch. Nice job though!🎉
I read where white vinegar will kill poison Ivey. Or white vinegar with salt. You should try it and go back and see if it worked. It sure would help the neighbors. Thanks for the great stuff you do.
I use that combination; vinegar, salt and a bit of Dawn type soap to kill weeds. We don't have much poison ivy here in CO that I am aware of. Maybe it’s altitude or dryness.
White vinegar, salt, & a bit of Dawn works great on a lot of weeds. I'm guessing with poison ivy that the itchy stuff will still be in the plant so you'd still have to be careful, but maybe someone else has tried it?
Another great job for the neighborhood! Spencer, I so appreciate your wisdom to pay attention to and stay out of the poison ivy. That stuff can be deadly! We had to move due to losing our home to flood damage. When I tried to mow the new yard with a riding mower I couldn't because of back surgery. Our adopted Grandson told me he would take care it, but wouldn't accept money. I asked him if he would accept home made bread instead. LOL He was all over that deal. He also told us that he would continue taking care of it for us. It's been5 years. You remind us so much of him. God Bless you for caring about others the way you do!
Even if you don't take into account the 1000x better aesthetics... just seeing passable sidewalks and places for rainwater to drain (i.e. cleaned up curbs) makes my heart sing. You are doing a great service.
