I was interested in the comparison of Texas (19 stations) and Delaware (the 2 mentioned).
Delaware has 1,982 square miles and a population of just under 1 million people.
If Texas had the same number of stations per square mile, then we would have 271 stations. If we had the same number of stations per person, then we'd have 58 stations.
TLDR: build more Amtrak stations in Texas.
They will by '35.
Jackson is like the pirate guy in Sponge Bob. When he's in an episode, you know its going to be a good one.
Miles, did you know that in PA jaywalking is only legal if:
a) there is no sign such as a red light saying you can't cross at that spot at that moment
b) you yield to cars
So it's easier to cross in the middle of the street than at crosswalks in PA.

bike amenities are really solid at this station. I love when public bike rack areas provide basic repair / maintenance equipment like pumps, extra security for looping through wheels, and tools to tighten loose stuff. Really handy and forward thinking for bike riders to use the station.

Absolutely amazed to see this pop up on RUclips! My home station for 2/3 of the year when I'm at school. While you did nail the cheapest way, imo the most reasonably priced way would be the DART 33 you took (or the 10, or others) to Wilmington, and then just take one of the later SEPTA trains that go from Wilmington to Philly. Ends up around $7-8 at that time of night. Or, if you can, catch SEPTA when it is in Newark (still only rush hour weekdays, unfortunately).
Also absolutely nailed the station review. Still looks about the same as when you visited, since right now they are focusing on track work north of the station. The new waiting room is open, though I think it is only for weekdays when SEPTA is around, and the parking lot is much fuller with commuter's cars on weekdays. Amtrak does not list it as an accessible station now, from what I can tell, but SEPTA does use that high platform both arriving and departing. Amtrak has not increased service to the station (or decreased prices lol), but it is decent when it is there. Wishing both SEPTA and Amtrak came more often though. Also, there is a penned deal now for future extension of Maryland MARC train service to Newark Station sometime in the future, so people can commute to Baltimore/DC! Looking forward to that.
I revisited Newark a little more recently and the waiting room was very nice inside - I was impressed, although that sucks that it's only open when SEPTA is running.

BTW: That campus is the UD STAR campus (formerly was a Chrysler plant) & there is a plan to convert Tri-State Mall to a logistics/warehousing center. The Tri State Mall where you had to transfer to SEPTA Rt 113 used to be a reasonably busy mall. But when the local department store Wilmington Dry Goods closed and then the K Mart that spelled the end of it being much of a shopping center. There are a few stores on the side of mall on the lower level but even these have been less after the major stores closed. I guess the reason the transit still serves here is that it is a convient place for SEPTA and DART buses to turn around. By the way the Delaware Department of Transportation is building a major upgraded station to replace the old Claymont station on the old steel factory property nearby so I would not be surprised to see both agencies relocate the busses to the new train station when it opens. Thus providing a modern transfer station as well as a connection to the commuter rail service.

What is it with abandoned malls as transit destinations? Here in Alexandria, Virginia, a lot of the bus routes go to the abandoned Landmark Mall. It adds several minutes to every trip. At least there are benches and shelters, but still. I bet that Christiana and Landmark are not the only abandoned malls serving as transit destinations.

wow the tri state mall havent seen that place in years! im 41 and until i was 12 lived in marcus hook pa right down the street from there, it was pretty busy in the 80s and early 90s i recall its major store being k mart it had an arcade and movie theater i barely recall. so its probably been a stop since the 80s.

UD STUDENTS WANT MORE TRAINS!!!!! DelDOT is waiting on Amtrak to finalize schedules and funding for construction on the platform. Once it’s done MARC plans to extend service from Perryville. I’m assuming SEPTA service will be improved along with Amtrak? I guarantee it all gets done right after I graduate :’)

RIP to the Tri-State Mall
This station will receieve more customers once MARC trains extend from Perryville up to Newark so you can ride MARC to Baltimore from Newark, DE if you don't work in Wilmington or Philly.
Notably it's the least used AMTRAK station - the Marc extension probably wouldn't affect Amtrak traffic too much. But of course the MARC extension is still super exciting!

Least used in SC is kind of a tossup between Denmark and Clemson - I'm waiting for better ridership numbers to come out on those before making that video, since Clemson opened somewhat recently.

😂😂😂I went to University of Delaware, public transit out of the state is expensive, and a mess even though there’s 20k+ students. Dart isn’t the best but you can get from Wilmington to the beach. The new Newark station is a huge improvement but they need more service, UD is not very innovative 😂😂

Nope! It's the least used NEC stop in Maryland, but Cumberland and Rockville on the Capitol Limited get fewer passengers.

Amtrak's handling of boarding and unboarding is absurdly bad. They need a complete reorganization of passenger handling.
I think Philly's tourist authority would pay you to NOT put up your Philly videos! You reveal how awful much of Philly is.

@@MilesinTransit I've always seen foamers as the guys who can name all the locomotives and old railways and get really obsessive about it (Virtual Rail Fan's livestream chats...yeesh). I think especially framing it as "I'm a college student and this is a cheap way to travel that's kinda cool and sometimes kinda sketchy" is different.
I'm an Amtrak enthusiast, definitely not a foamer. I did public transit in LA and SF when I was there this summer, and it wasn't too difficult at all. Anyway, I'm rambling. Keep doing what you're doing, and when you get back to Washington (not on Greyhound) let me know.
