In order for the bus to be a better option than Metro North, you need to value your time at $2/h or less
Or find the trip itself entertaining, like these guys.
Or don’t have the fare…
@@acetakeoff4798 I could bike it faster.
Worth it
@@user-tb7rn1il3qBiking for that long would make you eat more, therefore having to pay more for food
legend has it that they are still crossing the new haven line to this day
You guys need to find a way to publicize this great resource. A lot more people need to be aware of this. The state and local governments should publicize public transportation more
Came for the Ned references, stayed for the Waterbury shots, thank you for taking us on the adventure, Miles, great video!!
Thank you for watching!
Looked at a lot of timetables It's possible to go from the Connecticut-Rhode Island border to Arlington, Virginia on "local" buses and it takes about two full days to do it. The only obnoxious gap being Joppatowne to White Marsh.
The only questionable "express" bus is the njt bus from Port Authority to Lakewood.
Well say this…. I don’t know this route at all but say once you get to the port authority (I assume you gonna be there) you take a bus to Newark and take the NJT 67 to Lakewood.
@@MosheArcade the 67 would also be called a questionable local bus for the same reason the 139 is. And sometimes time of day is the reaso that the 139 is taken ( re. A 24 hr a day route). Otherwise New York to Old Bridge is 108 to the 59 to the 48 to the 810 and 818 to get to Old Bridge at a point where the 139 is local.
First time I’ve seen a transit channel run straight through my backyard.
I’m gonna make Ned pay for my bus rides tomorrow 🤩
Miles, your editing is flawless as expected by now. 10/10
Thank you so much!!
Banger video after banger video
This is freaking awesome I'm living vicariously through you 3 and thank you for showing me part of the United States I might not ever see again!
Thank you for watching!
If you're ever bored you can come to kansas city, missouri. We made our busses free (except for a few carve outs and I'm not sure if the kansas side went along with it).
That long route out to Lawrence looks fun!
@@MilesinTransit If only the amtrak back was timed in some reasonably convenient way. Could start up north at the airport and take 229 to downtown then the 435 to JCCC then the 510 to lawrence. Would have to overnight then amtrak back at 5 am.
Used to live in Platte City and worked at MCI for 10 years, is that Tram to MCI ever happening?
@@foxecho727 I doubt it. I work out there and I've never even heard that we were thinking about putting a tram in. They are making good progress on the new terminal though.
@@SmokiesDen I Transferred out in 2010 I hadn’t heard anything else since then was just curious
Stew Leonard's is quite the supermarket! Never been to the Norwalk location, but when I lived in Westchester, I grew up going to the one in Yonkers (which is served by Bee-Line and is on top of a hill so it has some great views) and Stew Leonard's is the Disneyland of supermarkets like Jungle Jim's in Ohio! The supermarket is designed as an experience where you walk through the entire store unlike the typical supermarket (so basically like IKEA), and besides the petting zoo, they have a coffee bar (with freshly roasted beans), fresh mozzarella, buffet, a bunch of tasting booths, costumed characters, a soft-serve ice cream stand, and A LOT of animatronics (yes...ANIMATRONICS) like a singing tree telling you to drink Poland Spring water! The diner you saw at 8:27 is specifically the Athenian Diner III and it's a 1997 diner made by the DeRaffele Manufacturing Co. of New Rochelle, according to Dinerville!
The reason that bridge at 6:50 has all those flags is because for decades, Westport has honored jUNe Day (created by Ruth Steinkraus Cohen in 1965 in observance of the signing of the UN charter on June 26th, 1945) and United Nations Day on October 24th every year by flying flags of the member nations on the Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Bridge as the late Juilliard-trained pianist Ruth Steinkraus Cohen lived in Westport and was a staunch advocate for the United Nations and the national and state levels. WWII left a deep impression on Ruth, and she did not hesitate when in 1956 her friend Eleanor Roosevelt asked her to serve as her personal secretary on a World Federation of UN Associations mission to Warsaw, Berlin and Budapest, and she never looked back! While accompanying Roosevelt in Poland, the husband of one of their female interpreters was arrested for purchasing a copy of "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. This incident gave Ruth an idea of using Westport as a base affording diplomats and politicians an opportunity to meet ordinary people and help them to stay in touch with every day life!
Awesome. An elderly person taught me, add up all cost of vehicles, maintenance, fuel, insurance, debt over your lifetime. Today, that will be well over 500k. That means you can retire at 45 to 50, by not owning one. Now, take away mortgage and rents, others costs and you own your own time. Plus, its environmentally friendly.
3 days late but bless Saint Ned for making these vids possible for the low low cost of just your time.
ALso, should've asked this 2 weeks ago, but favorite Snyder's pretzels? I'm partial to the Sourdough Nibblers myself
I was recently introduced to the sourdough nibblers by Classy Whale and they are FANTASTIC! My one problem with them is that the mini bags are smaller than other types so I always feel like I'm getting fewer pretzels for the same price (which might just be a psychological thing).
For when I'm at home, I like rods and (controversially) Old Tyme, but when I'm on the go, I like to get the basic minis! Snaps are great too, but I don't think they make mini bags of those.
I can certify that this video contains much verbal hysteria. Good work fellas!
This was very entertaining! I live in NYC and work in Norwalk and go to a lot of those places. It was fun seeing you discover CT. Great idea.
Thank you!
"I live in NYC and work in Norwalk" - That's not a commute, that's a punishment!!!!!
1:06, the Boston Road Bus Corridor was not exclusively served by the Bee-Line Buses (60/61/62), the Bx30 served it between East Gun Hill Road and Conner Street, and the Bx16 serves it between Dyre Avenue and the NYC-Westchester boarder, I suppose you can say Bee-Line exclusively served Boston Road south of East Gun Hill Road, besides that this was a very nice video!
And now the Bx30 serves it along with the 60/61/62 buses until Pelham Pkwy from the new Bronx Bus Redesign.
There was a pretty big portion that was exclusive, though! Now it's all duplicated by MTA, of course.
@@MilesinTransit you do have a point, around half of it was covered entirely by Bee-Line! Sadly now, it’s served by both the MTA and Bee-Line
Wait I've been on that specific bus. It STILL has the dots
You should do Boston to NYC next, Ive mapped it out once before and it’s theoretically possible entirely on public transit (excluding Amtrak). You might have very long connections at some points but there is a route you can take hopping between different bus and commuter rail operators that will eventually get you there
I want to do DC to Boston sometime, which is also possible!
@@MilesinTransit And you did it!
Also you can charge phone on 300 series. USB is under seat on Bee-Line Artic.
Hope CT expands free bus ride to Labor Day too since it suppose to expire 6/30 last date.
Of all the places to go in Connecticut, Waterbury would not be on my list.
I enjoy getting robbed
9:44 this stretch of long island sound is where the first powered flight took place by Gustave Whitehead (Bridgeport to Milford)
man, you couldnt even pay me to go into waterbury
Thanks for choosing Norwalk Transit District!
Waterbury is like the BX but in the middle of nowhere 🤣
Just came across this channel and binge watched most of it 😭 so glad other ppl take transit for fun too
Ahh the CT Post Mall! Much of my childhood was spent there.
I wanna hang out with these guys!!
Another great video
Honestly love these videos, so entertaining.
Thank you!
Please do more CTtransit routes I have been getting on random cttransit buses and go to its last stop and last one I been on the 255 was nice sight to see
Pre covid I recall doing Flushing Queens to Darien for $2.75 (MTA fare covered both transfers and 61 was running g into Bronx when I ran it.
broo! you also passed by stop and shop, my local grocery shopping store!!! i love this
lmao great job just to let you know the bus on the 60 you rode was a New Flyer XDE60 and the old bus you rode was a Neoplan AN460
My fav, how many times the New Haven line is pointed out, too funny, bravo!
Thank you!
This looks like an out of water experience fish would have. :))))
These guys are travelling WITHOUT cars !
That is what we do, yes
@@MilesinTransit :) ❤
Buses in this video: 2018-19 XDE60, 2010 Nova Bus LFSA, (I don’t know the year) Gillig BRT, and (I don’t know the year) XD40
Once upon a long time ago this same trip could have been done by trolley car, mostly over Connecticut Company lines. It wouldn't have been free though.
That World wide water crossing is the bridge over the Saugatuck River in Westport CT. As you drive east towards Southport
08:25 The Athenian Diner (colloquially known as the Silver Diner) is a solid diner. Fair prices and, well, diner food - it’s not going to change your life but we all need some good old fashioned diner food available 24 hours a day.
Interesting,
don't you all enjoy railroad
trams, trains etc are just so cool
take a ride in my ''transportation'' folder, (folder 2 in playlists) :)
You've hit levels of foamer I have never seen before, and I've pressed my phone to the cab door of a packed TTC train to get the shot in a bike share t-shirt. While I appreciate Miles' MTA t-shirt, I think y'all need shirts that say, "Warining: Foaming in Progress." I thought about getting little business cards that say, "Please be advised, I am about to be cringe. Stand clear. Thank you." and handing them out like in Joker. You might take these suggestions in jest, but as we transition to a more based society, we need to make provisions for the foamers that have had to exist in a car centric society for so long. We need to at least alert normies that we are about to be wilding out because the 60' Articulated Novabus happens to have an obscured view out the window.
I can't believe I read this in full ☹️
Ironic? Ned Lamont campaign ads were part of this video.God Bless Ned for free busing.
You could’ve ride for free from Manhattan (During the weekday not on the weekends) via the Bxm4c.
True! I want to do a cross-Connecticut trip for free one of these days, it'd be cool to include the BxM4C!
I lived around Stratford for a year years ago, never know there is a bus
Thank you for making me a proud Connectican.
Nutmegger
THANKS NED
you asked why don't they open the rear doors? I have some insight as I worked at a Fairless transit agency the reason we did not open the rear doors is because we had to count the amount of passengers getting on in order to secure funding.
Oh, that's interesting. I'm surprised an agency as big as CTtransit doesn't have APC's though!
Thats so cool man lol, you passed my cousins house, they live 2 houses away from stew leonards
Man, New Rock City was so cool when I was like 8. That and Sportime.
Snyderless Walgreens would be a pretty sick name
Crumbs. You came to my turf to do Transit things. Lets do that again soon.
Just the right amount of time not to be boring.
In all my years living here thankfully I never have seen a dotted bee line
Come to Raleigh NC and ride the buses I would do it with you
When will the next cheapest way video come out? I've missed this series.
Planning to film one in December!
@@MilesinTransit where?
Hopefully there was enough verbal hysteria in this one.
Watching in 2024. I think miles is unhinged
Ohh
They're not free.. Workers had to work for free while bureaucrats skimmed off the top
When do you get an official sponsorship from Ned the lord and saviour?
You came through my city…Stamford!
2:31 I was wondering the same thing when I was riding the "w"20 the other day
Yeah, why not take advantage of the lack of fares?
New Roach-elle
Real talk, the diner in Milford you passed is actually fantastic. CT Post Mall? Big ole oof.
Best days of your life kids Enjoy ( you will never forget those days)
4:54 is such a typical NovaBus moment with their loud doors
New Roc City is an Shopping Mall type complex.
You should have more subscribers, Miles.
This channel seems a bit too niche to be popular. But that's exactly what I like about it.
Fair enough! I'm pretty happy with this little community I've cultivated!
if you ever wanna try to get to get from richmond to norfolk on local buses lmk, i’ve been dying to try it. afaik it requires one segment of amtrak or greyhound but from williamsburg you can take WATA and HRT
It's a shame Richmond doesn't have better exurban coverage - it seems crazy that you can't take buses from Richmond to Williamsburg or Fredericksburg!
@@MilesinTransit they’re doing some exploratory studies for expanding on-demand service into the exurbs but mostly it’s just that the counties are afraid of the ~scary people~ who might live in their neighborhoods if they have buses lol
This shit gave me second hand ptsd. I get violently I’ll after like a 20-30 minute ride
no way 10:30 who ever says it getting rural is wildin
Ned, buddy….meet with Miles to discuss CT Transit.
0:48 velour/velvet cloth ??
wait did ya tank new haven line? how'd ya end up at fordham??? wouldn't that be more than $12 since you'd be transferring at harlem/125th to the harlem line?
We took the train for $2.75 and walked.
I have the ambition to walk across every border in Schengen. So far I have done France : Belgium, Austria : Slovakia, Slovakia : Hungary and Switzerland : Germany.
That's incredible! Good luck!
fun challedge ride every bus line in the city of stamford, there's only 12
Sounds doable!
@@MilesinTransit if you need specific info I can help you
Surely you can continue on the 928 Up to Hartford and do New York to Hartford for free
Yeah, definitely! The furthest from New York you could get on free buses would be Thompson.
I gots the Brass Mill 🤒 fever
that was a lot of fun :)
Thank you!
I am shocked that you can go that far for free (when this was going on). Also why don’t u have an intro song?
It's still going on! As for an intro song, some types of videos have them (The Diner Video, Apparently a Trip Report), but generally I'm a fan of getting straight to the point!
What’s the origin story behind the Ned references? I know that he made the busses free last year but is there anything else?
Not really! It started in this video: ruclips.net/video/CTkOsqaa37c/видео.htmlsi=y1B-EDGGRUigK2GS
@@MilesinTransit Thanks!
Could we take this same route from CT to NYC
Bee-Line isn't free anymore, unfortunately.
Bus ted.
Those stop announcements on the CT Transit buses sound annoying and robotic. Maybe you could pass that along to Ned.
would be better to go on the train its still a good 2 hours from new york.
Lmao idk if going to "waterbury" is anything to be proud of... If anyone asks "what time is it?" They're trying to get you to pull out your phone. Don't.
I wonder what is the furthest you can travel with public transit only
I think you can make it the entire length of the West Coast! I want to try it sometime.
I know rory Gilmore is quaking
omg, i seriously wanna meet ned!
i fucking love public transit
How cheaply can you get from Hartford to New York City?
Also conceivably free, if you only take buses!
So how can we get to New York City from Waterbury by bus?
This same trip, but in reverse!
@@MilesinTransit I tried it in reverse, but I could not see where I was going and kept bumping into things!
i want to make trip like that?
What, no Wawa's?
There aren't any in Connecticut...Ned's gotta get on that!
It's so cute seeing US people tying to be Europeans /jk
I thought this video was going to feature cheesy corporate music and perhaps sticking your gum under Gov Lamonts seats.
Nothing is free. Someone is paying for it.
and you don't say that about roads?
@@codfish1113 of course I do.

God, that sounds like it would be such a surreal experience. Lucky you!
@@MilesinTransit And also, the shuttle bus from NYC was FREE! Thanks, Maury!
Is the BxM4C free too?
Yes!
"Why wouldn't they open the back door too?"
You get what ya pay for 🤣
Thus the question begs > is there a free return?...or is this NYC's way of reducing the population 🤔
When was this done?
Last Saturday!
@@MilesinTransit I missed you then.
Coastal link, most COVID proof Bus?
I'd say so!
I wonder why is it free to ride rather than pay for the service?
An initiative to boost ridership and help low income riders, I think
The state gas tax was also cut for Connecticut to help residents financially, so free buses helps those without cars
Imo all transit should be free (paid by taxes), fares are just a way of means testing and, at least in my state, don't even cover ten percent of the operating cost
@@MilesinTransit Chicago has some low income discounts or free for in state residents.. if you live out of state, TOUGH
