  • In this video, I document the process of having to take my Vespa N1S (an EV converted LX 50 utilising NIU N1S components) through the Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) process in the UK. Previously, I made a video on applying to have the UK's DVLA update the registration for an EV converted vehicle, but it turns out that it's not so simple.
    Here is that video:

Sorry DVLA gave you a Q plate. and changing the frame no. and the problem I can see about adding new chassis numbers is the police 'may' have a problem with it. and they said the wheels weren't right? most auto front and rear wheels are different. maybe they have classed you as manufacturer? the number plate light is strange, but on geard vespa the rear light lens has a clear patch so the number plate can be seen at night. Piaggio made a boo-boo there. and heads up on the Q plate, you may have a problem selling the scooter on, and questions maybe asked why the frame number was changed. and there is a book(about building custom vehicles and regulations for DVLA) that tell you what you need to know, at some point I think some of the answers you gave to DVLA made them think you altered the vehicle (frame) not just the engine. I know this as I still ride cut down vespa PX's (like your white one) and vesbrettas ( lambretta scooter frame with a vespa engine) some people think it's easy as changing an engine and that's it, there more than just that. doesn't help you now but at least you got out of the DVLA rabbit hole.

The problem was that I highlighted that the rear wheel was from an NIU. If I had just said that I installed an electric motor in place of a petrol motor, it might have been OK. I ended up selling this Vespa a week ago without any problems.
