    In Australia a lot of people work in the inner city where there's no parking, but at the same time we all live in the suburbs which aren't served by public transport. So a lot of people drive to the train/bus/ferry station, but then you get to the inner city where the public transport again falls apart, with a choice between a 20 minute wait for a transfer bus or a 2km+ walk (often over steep hills). If last mile transport makes sense anywhere, it's here.

      @@prophetzarquon1922 At my last track day there was a super cool guy who brought his Brompton (the folding bike that made a cameo at 4:18 ) and let us borrow it to get to the restrooms. Pedaling in full leathers was certainly interesting, but it felt good to move the legs after being scrunched up in the riding position all day. More importantly seeing him fold it up and put it in his track bag convinced me to get one. Pricey af, but it's been ridiculously useful and fun as hell.

    Last mile transport solutions make perfect sense as a concept:
    A taxi from my house to the next city is about 20 minutes. The train is about 20 minutes. But it's 40 minutes walk to get to the train station. Another 30 minutes at the other end. The train is the best transport solution, but if you have stops everywhere then it's too slow, like buses. Infrequent stops and it's too inconvenient, like 30-40 minutes walk at each end. Use something like this and you arrive 50 minutes sooner and not sweaty. THAT is the use case.

    • @HugEBear42
      @HugEBear42 5 месяцев назад +23

      somewhat the issue though. its great in CONCEPT. forget to charge it or take that train to somewhere you cant charge and it may be an issue. If it does catch on then you have the same issue we have now with electric scooters clogging up sidewalks and becoming hazards. Regulate the size and speed of them and they go back to being no quicker than walking. its a solution to a question no one asked yet. most cities need to fix or work out their public transport before something like this is an issue, and for Japan that has sorted its public transport, its a non issue.
