Not to mention the fact that he's going to be generating far more wattage than your average Brompton rider because of the amount of climbing he does on bikes. Brompton wins most of these challenges but by nowhere near the margin that is being made out here.

I see where this honda is coming from, I think in the 70s there was a Honda Civic that came with a folding 2 stroke petrol engine scooter in the trunk and it was called Honda Motocompo, as this is smaller it's called Motocompacto, this thing looks so cool!!!!
Did you use Power mode 1 or Power mode 2 on the motocompacto? Since power mode 1 is limited to 10mph, power mode 2 to 15mph. Seeing as you had to push it to start, I think you were in power mode 1 the whole time.
Somehow I think the Brompton still would have won most of the challenges, considering 15mph is pretty average for most bicycles. Maybe the hill challenge the outcome would have been different since 15mph uphill can be tough even on a full size bike.
@@chadmyles-theclevelandcyclistCan the Motocompacto offer unlimited power to reach 15mph though? Otherwise it’s potentially also going to be under 15mph climbing?
I saw a guy with an even smaller Chinese suit case moto absolutely ripping it through a casino in Vegas. I don’t think you could get away with doing that on a brompton.
I friggin love this video. For the curious, I think the use case for the Honda is Japanese urban train commuters. You can’t bring bikes on trains there (unless they’re in a bag), so a last-mile scooter that folds into its own carry case and can take advantage of the really excellent urban cycling infrastructure in Japan is actually a super cool idea.
Great video, after reading the specs of the hondas suitcase i found that you were in mode 1 when you have to kick off to start your ride. "you’ll find that the vehicle comes with two different modes. For mode one you’ll be restricted to 10 mph and are required to kick off to start moving, and with mode two you won’t have any requirement; push the throttle, and you’re on your way."
Hi Seth. I just wanted to say that I love your videos and watch every new one. I am a biker from Mozambique in Africa but am origonoly from the US. You content is truly inspiring. Thanks for the great content.
A fairly new subscriber to this channel and had been loving the content so far, but gotta say this video really missed the mark. Even going along with the questionable comparison of a human-powered fold-up bicycle to the battery-powered sit-down scooter, it was frustrating to watch how unfair the evaluation of the Motocompacto was. Full disclosure, I do own one myself. The two biggest issues both lie in the apparent lack of any effort to learn about even the basics of the Motocompacto's operations before making the video. First, the "unfold speed" test was abysmal. Seth is clearly very fluid and practiced with unfolding the Brompton, whereas the other guy was still figuring the Motocompacto out. There is definitely an "order of events" that *has* to happen in that sequence for the Motocompacto, but once you get some practice, I'm certain it would match or outperform in that department (none of the steps requires any tightening, mostly just over-engineered latches). Second, the entire video appears to have been made with the Motocompacto in Drive Mode 1, which requires a kick-off (12:54) and has a top speed of 10mph. Drive Mode 2, which just requires you to double-press the power button, can accelerate from stopped and reach a top speed of 15mph. In that mode, I've easily ridden up >30 degree inclines (I'm ~180lbs) with minimal speed loss. The Motocompacto has a fairly powerful 490W motor - the 15mph top speed is almost certainly a software cap. You can actually feel the Motocompacto reduce power when you hit 15, which suggests that it can easily have kept going faster (some folks using aftermarket controllers have achieved 25-30mph). To be fair, many of Seth's comments about it being overpriced ($995 MSRP, fwiw I bought it w/ a discount), underpowered compared to a $300 e-scooter, and lacking any suspension making it a rough ride are all true. He does also showcase the durability, handling, and balance of the scooter by doing some gnarly tricks (unlikely that a $300 e-scooter would survive any of these, especially since they tend to have smaller wheels, lower clearance, and have their battery packs literally at the bottom so a good hit on a rock might lead to an explosion). I would just have really loved to see the Motocompacto be tested properly and given its dues. Me and other owners I've met of the Motocompacto have all really loved it, and I haven't met anyone who has regretted purchasing one. Anyways, I'm grateful Seth took the time to make this video and look forward to others like this.
They also never mention that the motocompacto was literally designed as a "last-mile" companion for their cars, not to be some "daily driver" commuter scooter. It folds up nicely so you can keep it in the trunk of a car. It wasn't designed for the same purpose as the Brompton.
I think that part of the appeal of the motocompacto is also the retro factor, blinkning back to their legendary 80's icon the Motocompo. It falls under partially the same nieche as the Nintendo NES mini. You dont buy it mainly to compete with modern full sized consoles or because "its a good deal", but for the retro factor and the looks.
Good read. Thanks for the input regarding the scooter. I watch all Seths videos, but this was a thumbs down and a pain to watch bc of the mishandling and treatment of the poor scooter.

I look forward to my daily commute (still get road rage, though, as I'm going traffic speed and drivers are still 🤬 sometimes 😂) Then I wheel it into work and charge it there... I never need to pay for gas or electricity or find a parking space... So you can ride it taking with your the flat tire. It is NOT design to hop on and off obstacles :D. Good job Seth, that is hilarious.

Hey Seth I started riding bikes again for the first time in years and I've been loving it I'm currently saving up for the ozark trail ridge since my bike isn't my size anymore
Seth speaks the truth. I have a $350 Amazon scooter that has 12-in wheels with pneumatic tires and dual suspension that could definitely outperform this Honda scooter in speed, acceleration and off-road ability, however I don't know if it would survive a drop like that Honda did. That was surprising
Honestly the EUC is probably the best short distance PEV out of all of them. Small enough to fit under a shopping cart, enough range to do over 30 miles at 20+mph even on the smallest/cheapest options. Leaves you hands free for shopping purposes. Smallest one to fit in a trunk. Slight learning curve but anyone who can ride a bicycle can learn to ride one in a couple days.
I tried the Honda Suitcase Scooter at a local convention. It was just "ok", and that was inside with an obstacle course. Now this just makes me want to get a brompton.

Hey Seth, love that your trying out new areas of biking, have you thought about looking into the semi-new category of neo-retro bike / restoring retro bikes with modern components? If not, will there be any upcoming mtb videos? I’m missing them!
I’ve wanted a Motocompacto for the last 20 years that I’ve know about them. I can’t believe they’re back. It’s definitely not what I thought it’d be and wouldn’t be the electric bike I’d go with in the future. I’m still waiting for a small electric bike that won’t cost me the price of a used car.
Looking forward to a video from either Berm Peak or Bikes and Beards to put an upgraded engine and wheels on that Honda, maybe even shocks. It might be epic.
It doesn't matter if a bicycle wins against electric-crap, because it always wins anyways as its a bicycle, but a pretty good sized drop-to-flat on a solid wheel scooter is pretty entertaining if not terrifying for the guy with no body armor or full face on! bravo!

14:04 The skater in the background stops to watch lol.
"He's gonna jump off that, on THAT?"
I can't believe you tried the stairs on that thing 🤣
from what I know, the Motocompacto is made for in case of emergency and you just need to get somewhere when your car broke, like to patch flat tyre while your spare is also flat. So you can ride it taking with your the flat tire. It is NOT design to hop on and off obstacles :D. Good job Seth, that is hilarious.
I live near Chicago so I huck to flat my GTI everyday to work as well. You are so entertaining Seth, I so look forward to your videos! Thanks for some of the greatest content on RUclips!
Is berm peak becoming a Brompton channel? I'm here for it!
When someone says Brompton is fragile 😂, see this 😂
Im a long time subscriber. I know you said the berm peak new feature videos didnt do as good as your bike flipping vids, but that is what i absolutely loved.. and many others as well... the best videos and why i had originally subscribed.. please go back to your roots.. i know algorithms have changed, but we need to figure somthing out.. i want berm peak "new feature" videos.. I dont watch any of these bike flipping videos. You also said the feature videos took a massive amount of work comepared to these newer videos. But we love them!!! Please go back!!!
I love how Sean is involved with berm peak
Hey Seth I started riding bikes again for the first time in years and I've been loving it I'm currently saving up for the ozark trail ridge since my bike isn't my size anymore
This was great you need more Brompton videos for sure. Look at the Mods they do to them disk brakes, Titanium. Great job keep it up. 🎉🎉🎉
So funny! Thanks guys. Brompton should use your videos for sales!
Seth speaks the truth. I have a $350 Amazon scooter that has 12-in wheels with pneumatic tires and dual suspension that could definitely outperform this Honda scooter in speed, acceleration and off-road ability, however I don't know if it would survive a drop like that Honda did. That was surprising
this video is sick! i would love to see more of this!
Hi Seth I love your videos!!! Keep up the great great great work!!!
Sean and the bikes and Beard's channel is a great one to watch.
Super entertaining! Haha good work!
Very entertaining, I like the tests to see the limits of these things
I tried the Honda Suitcase Scooter at a local convention. It was just "ok", and that was inside with an obstacle course. Now this just makes me want to get a brompton.
I love the content man! Your videos have really helped me figure out what type of bike to get after my last one got stolen. I just started riding it to.
The look on Seth when the box is on the ground after the steps challenge is epic 😅
Can You Do vidéo. in this vidéo You full upgrade the brompton
Please 😅ps your video is the best I ever see
You should compare the Brompton to a longboard
I like these types of videos. Wear you test thing tor ther limits (torture test)
At the end of it all, you guys finally bought 8 motherboards for about 40% less than the price of the Board at the intro 🤣😂. Thats a crazy deal and experiment😎
Please do comparison: Brompton Folding Bicycle VS Electric Unicycle (Inmotion v11 for example). The results may surprise ;)
Can't put a basket on a unicycle
The absolute craziest thing I’ve seen you do
Watching Seth torture test products and items is one of my favorite pastimes.
Brompton suspension block stress test 2 😂😂
Since watching this i am more confident at my Cline 😂
This was an entertaining and informative video. Seth has some mad biking skills and clearly the blessing of the cycling gods. He cant possibly pull of some of the crazy stuff without that.
Who encounters huck to flat on their way to work (or even rides down stairs!!)!! Also, what the heck is a huck?
Hey Seth, love that your trying out new areas of biking, have you thought about looking into the semi-new category of neo-retro bike / restoring retro bikes with modern components? If not, will there be any upcoming mtb videos? I’m missing them!
I love your videos so much they always make my day better. Keep it up Seth!
the road at the 8 minute mark is a perfect example of the urban streets iride in terms of roughness , just less debris
F9 and now Berm Peak?? Hell yeah
Love to see you start modding your brompton! get a bigger 48T chain ring if you wanna go faster on the flats!
When set says they are going to be really careful, in my mind I heard were going to do something different, but kind of the same 🤣🤣
An entry level EUC weighs about the same but it's much more powerful and useful than the suitcase bike
Great video seth🎉
5:23 fire song
Didn't expect a Bikes and Beards collab :D
I’ll wait for the Type R
This is a masterpiece
Crazy tests love them.
That was outrageously fun.
I enjoy content like this
Looking forward to a video from either Berm Peak or Bikes and Beards to put an upgraded engine and wheels on that Honda, maybe even shocks. It might be epic.
I think you owe your friend a new scooter 🤣
This was fun. It reminded me of old Top Gear at the beginning lol.
It doesn't matter if a bicycle wins against electric-crap, because it always wins anyways as its a bicycle, but a pretty good sized drop-to-flat on a solid wheel scooter is pretty entertaining if not terrifying for the guy with no body armor or full face on! bravo!
You should test an electric unicycle next! It's even smaller than the Honda scooter and most of them do 30+ mph
I was thinking the same thing, and/or a One Wheel.
@@matthewormond7356 Both are pretty hard to learn and nothing like riding a bike. I've owned a OW for over two years and I don't think I could do any of the things he did on that Brompton in this vid tbh.
It is good fun though.
Please make more videos like this!!!
Top Gear meets bikes, awesome!
This was funny. Actually I thought the Honda scooter was going to break on the jumps 😂😂😂😂
Motocompacto may lack the "'oo'mph" but it has character. It's funny to compare it with Brompton, but still a nice take on it! "FortNine" channel also did a funny by doing a Mr. Bean version on this. So, finally Motocompacto is Berm Peak Tested, QC Passed!
Solid review. Just know there are people who will see this and say "Honey I need that Honda!"
I liked it, Pilgrimesque almost.
If you keep making these damn videos you're gonna make me buy a Brompton, Seth.
Should have called it the Scoot Case...
I need to be on a marketing team.
This pays homage to the original Motocompo, hence its named that way..
@@ReNeyer Nice. I didn't know that.
Damn bro, I just bought a bike. I can't afford to get obsessed with Bromptons now.
all my favorite youtubers know each other
I don't know what seth is thinking but i like it 😂
hahaha bro sick edit skills and music layout. I feel like I'm watching a grand tour
Berm peak should do a collab with bikes and beards! Seth teaching sean how to mtb, and sean teaching seth how to motorcycle!
Yep. Didn't learn a thing. But I was entertained.
haha i mean the honda one is clearly designed for airports and malls so it cant be fast and needs to be super compact and look almost like a briefcase and the other one for longer distances outdoors obv better
Always entertaining!
I feel like the Honda is to ride around a plant or in a building of some type, not travel around town.
compacto will get you to the office without a sweat . . . no need for heavy breathing or changing a shirt before walking into the boardroom
You can ride a normal bike without sweating, an e-bike? Please
hey Seth can you please make a video building a mountainbike jump again? I realy enjoyed this type of videos you make😊
