@@granadosable my interpretation of this song is where in life everyone and everything you love eventually goes away and you're left all alone and how it's very sad!
@@granadosable The best explanation I've seen is this: "I think he is lamenting a relationship, where one person is in love, but the love is not returned -- AKA 'Unrequited Love.' 'Wished I could be in your heart' = that's what he wanted, but he is NOT in her heart. Q: Why would he wish that he were in her heart? A: Because she is in HIS heart. 'Wished I could be in your eyes' = he still loves her, & would be with her now, but again he is not ('Looking back, there you were, and here we are.'). To love, and NOT have it returned -- THAT will make you want to cry."
This is one of my all time favorite sad songs ever! The duel between Ray Thomas's flute and Mike Pinder's Chamberlain is very tear jerking and to me it represents the souls of your loved ones and pets going up to Heaven or another realm where I am left all alone and by myself in life just feeling so sad and depressed and this song is just one of my all time favorite sad songs that I like crying to a lot!
One of the most underrated bands of the 60's British Invasion. This great band rarely gets credit for incorporating rock & classical instruments as they did in their masterpiece LP, "Days of Future Passed", which was was the first concept album back in 1967. Wow, what a great bunch of musicians these guys were at their height.
Absolutely beautiful arrangement. It just doesn't get much better then this........ sooooo sad but soooo goood Reminds me of my youth wishing i was with certain women but the feelings just never seemed the same as mine. Turns out they were all just players. Good thing. Players are going to play. They I don't deserve
I don't mind admiring the beauty of a woman, but the "love" spoken of by Mr. Lodge, in the lyrics, suggests SO much more than mere appearance... or even sex.
Perfect, in every meaning of perfect ! I have played it a million times during the last 50 years…❤️
One of the best groups ever; if not the best.
Brings back many changes in my life. Some sad Some happy.❤
If you truly listen..life isn’t at all strange..with each time l play it.. l learn something l never knew before..and calm takes over..🇨🇦
Another masterpiece by the Moody Blues, absolutely beautiful lyrics beautifully. sung. Luv you always.
This song thrills me to my soul. i had it played at my wedding and will have it played at my funeral. xoxo
That's a beautiful story, Helene. Best wishes for the years ahead.
Or portions etched on my tombstone. The song sez things only ones heart hears.
Me too..when l leave this mortal coil will just think..l get to hear the song of life again..be well..🇨🇦
Without a doubt the Moody Blues were so far ahead of time! The words to this song are incredible! John Lodge was a genius
What does the song actually mean?

I choose to see the lyrics as a longing for the eternal heavenly love that comes from a loving God ❤
And Justin Hayward as well
The Chamberlin solo by Mike Pinder in the middle is sublime. This song moves me like few others have ever done.
I certainly agree with you my friend!
Beautiful

Tears of joy and great beauty.
@@burlingtonbill1 yeah but to me it's also become tears of sadness too!
@@samuelfawley646 I know it sounds odd & weird but it reminds of a love I longed for but was never blessed with.
@@laura2372 I'm sure it has different meanings for everyone but I guess sadness and melancholy is what it means to me I'm afraid.
@@samuelfawley646 I, as well. A sadness & melancholy for the soul mate never found. A life lived unloved.
When we lose loved ones, we grieve and ask what is this thing called life all about.
Instantly transports me back to certain time and place. It makes me want to cry. Powerful, beautiful timeless song.
One of the greatest of all time. A masterpiece.

Thank you for the tributes.
What a powerful song... no one can match the Moodies for pure beauty
I don't think it gets any better than this with the Moodies. So serene, so wistful, so PERFECT.
That was so beautiful and breath taking. Stirred up so many memories and emotions. thanks for sharing
Truly a masterpiece. A soaring depiction of love. Never tire of listening to this work of art.
Isn’t love strange? A word we arrange
R.I.P Michael Pinder, mellotronist supreme! This is my go-to track to hear his heavenly Chamberlin @ 3:40 !
A definite masterpiece, thanks for posting it!
Powerful. One of the greatest ‘pop’ pieces ever. Great video too.
This, for the love of my life...
I just got goosebumps!

Beautiful, beautiful song. The romantic silliness in the video doesn't really fit. Sorry.

Great song but very simpy video.
