Let me say that another way, unless you wanted to waste your money or spend lots of time cutting turf that was growing very fast, knowing what amount of fertilizer is coming out of your spreader is important. If you are "a millionaire" then do as you wish.
Step 1: Buy a Scotts broadcast spreader. Step 2: Read and follow instructions on fertilizer bag / turn the spreader to the setting # noted on the bag. Step 3: Spread your darn fertilizer.
I did that,My spreader ( Scotts DXL) calls 11 1/2 setting,for Milorganite Fert. for 2500 sq ft,two bags should do my yard. It will be more like 5 bags, 11 1/2 ,it pours out in no time flat . It's a brand new unit !
That's why they don't want homeowners applying things to their own lawns. All spreader settings are starting points that's why they give you application rates also. This is so you can check your application and adjust were necessary...
This is easier than it sounds. They just divided it it into a bunch of steps to try to explain it to the the lowest common denominator public school graduate. It would've been better if they explained what they were doing first, instead of just saying, "Do this. Now, do this. Now do this."
Looks over complicated but really isn't once you do it. Should honestly do it for everything you spread so you have a reference point to get back to...

You know what im just gonna put some fertilizer in spreader, make sure its coming out evenly, and git on down the road.
By the time you've done the calibration, you've gone through your whole bag of fertilizer.
