Oh my god I have so much to say. I literally sang this song because I was obsessed with the background story of it and fell into a deep rabbit hole of old japanese mystery novels. So if you’re as interested in this PV as much as me, don’t worry, I got you!!
So this PV is based upon a short story titled “Nandemo nai/Of no concern”, one of the three stories included in “Shoujo Jigoku/Girl’s Hell” by the author Yumeno Kyuusaku in the 1930s. The story begins with the su*cide note from a young nurse named Himekusa Yuriko who is beautiful and beloved by all until her lies catch up to her as she is found to have fabricacted her past. Police get involved, there’s accusations of communism and seduction, but they ultimately let her go as they conclude that Yuriko…just loved lying. She loved creating stories and felt it made life less boring. And because of her compulsion, it leaves the reader with a mystery. Was her note a lie as well?
Sadly, this story was never officially translated into English but parts of it exist online, including someone’s doctorate thesis which examines all of Yumeno’s stories in depth. "For anyone who's curious about the meaning of the song:
It's based on Yumeno Kyuusaku's short story "Nandemo nai" ("It's nothing really" or "Of no concern"), from the collection Shoujo Jigoku (Girl’s Hell), comprised of three separate stories.
The first story, “Nandemo nai”, is about a nurse, Himekusa Yuriko, who gets caught in a web of lies of her own making. The story opens with the news that Yuriko was found dead. The body was cremated without an autopsy, and she left a suicide note blaming two doctors and accusing them of having slandered her.
An attractive young woman and a hard worker, Yuriko was popular with all the patients. One day, she makes a flippant remark about the doctor she used to work for (Shirataka) to the doctor she works for now (Usuki). Shirataka and Usuki used to be friends in medical school, and Usuki sets about trying to contact him. Somehow they never seem to be able to meet up, and it becomes clear that Yuriko is resorting to trickery and misdirection to keep them apart.
When the doctors do finally get in touch, Usuki learns that Yuriko ran away from Shirataka’s practice amidst rumors that she was seducing rich and famous patients. One of Usuki’s friends, a newspaper reporter, suggests they go to the police, and they in turn want to question Yuriko on the suspicion that she might be Communist. She is arrested and questioned - in the end, they let her go.
Even after this, though, she continues to lie. Sobbing, she tells Usuki and his family about her interrogation, but it does not match what he heard from the police officer. Looking back, Usuki notices a pattern: Yuriko tends to lie at the beginning of the month,
which he learns from another nurse is when Yuriko has her menstrual period.

I think it’s about a nurse who had some kind of dirt, judging by the fact that she was sure she would go to hell, and the green sheet of paper the male doctor had. She covered it up however, and this video is explaining her s**cide. That’s my theory anyway.
@@clacks5605 She was a liar, always at the start of each month, she would be pretty intense in her lying. She was a nurse and moved around from hospital to hospital. One day she made a comment about a previous employer, and the doctor she was talking to knew him. So that doctor sent the other a letter, asking about her... Her former employer said she ran away after rumours that she was fraternising with the rich patients.... So, feeling dubious about her, the police arrested her and questioned her to see if she was a communist. And they found, she just liked to lie, all the time, reality sucked so she made delusions instead, and it made her charming. So they let her go.... And then, a little while later, near the start of the month, she was found dead too, with a su*cide note.... which is around the time she would normally perform her biggest lies....
The author was also implying this was around the time she menstruated, the start of each month, and thus her delusions were based around menstrual hysteria but... I kind of hate that so ... I ignore it 😑
