@@grosebud4721 The first time I baked a cake, I did so much research on every step of the process cuz I wanted my cake to look like the fancy cakes in cake shops, not just a basic sheet cake. It was for my birthday but I also share my birthday with my late Grandma, so the cake was moreso for her since I still celebrate her birthday with mine. Let's just say I completely regretted not getting a rotating cake table and proper chair to make the piping less painful. And to get proper piping bags instead of using ziploc bags attached to the nozzles, like the buffoon I was.
It was a 2 layer, round red velvet with lemon icing and red & white piping btw. Did that scraping technique on the sides with orange frosting.
My hands aren't as skilled so the piping came out as best as it could, even after practicing on a baking sheet.

This whole thing of smashing cake in their new wives' faces against their wishes is just... baffling. I also really appreciate that Samantha noted that laughing can be a way of diffusing tension. I've seen way too many people try to excuse bad behaviour against someone--esp bad behaviour by men against women--by saying "but they laughed about it!" People can and do laugh when they're uncomfortable, because they're trying so hard to keep the peace, don't want to rock the boat, etc, because of the way other people don't like it when we say they're doing things that make us unhappy.

Is this in reference to arranged marriages? Because it's just a different practice of marriage, no better or worse than getting married "for love," so long as everybody involved in the process is a consenting adult. This brings back memories of being a child and a friends mother shoved my face into my ice cream cake. I was like 8 years old and spent the rest of the party crying in my room and refusing to come out because I was so embarrassed and upset. Like bitch, you do not know me well enough to even know if it’s even maybe okay for you to do that.
One of the reasons I married my now husband is because he’s respectful of me and my boundaries and when I say something like ‘please don’t do x’ he just doesn’t do it. And I do the same for him. It’s so simple. I always said I would rather be alone than with someone who doesn’t respect me in any way. Never ever ever ever lower your standards because you don’t think you can find a person that fits the criteria you want or need in a partner or think you aren’t worthy of those things. Any man (or anyone at all) who will disrespect you in front of all the guests at your wedding is surely comfortable enough to disrespect you in private. And possibly to a scary degree. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t wanna have a wedding. I feel like it’s just some really expensive one-day event. Also, I feel that it’s only fair that if you’re gonna invite people to witness your wedding then you should also invite people to witness your divorce instead of doing it behind closed doors. Also I don’t know what it is about weddings but it just makes people act fake, from the smiles to vows 🤷🏾‍♂️
No shade to anyone who’s into that. I prefer the idea of investing in a memorable honeymoon, something that happens away from all those eyes staring. I mean in the end I’m signing up for a marriage, not to feel special on one day.
I don’t know, maybe it’s cause I’m a child of divorced parents, which I totally support btw, my dad could’ve been set up with the most heartless person for life

Trans woman, 50 here, and I got married, pre-transition on my 23rd birthday. My ex wife really wanted to schedule the wedding two weeks earlier, which I supported. Sadly, the University of Washington was hosting Notre Dame in concussion ball that Saturday, and the only other one available with the rest of the scheduling restrictions was my birthday. So my ex wife scheduled the wedding to serve my late father's fetish for watching unpaid interns give themselves brain damage. She was also surprised when I did not try to smash cake in her face, as it had been done at about 17 of the 18 weddings we'd attended in the previous two years. When she asked why, I told her it was because she asked me not to.
