Juleen Fatiaki & Superintendent Fisi Nasario - Vicarious trauma: a prosecutor and police perspective

- From 4-6 March 2024 the PILON Sexual and Gender Based Violence Working Group held an Implementation Workshop in Nadi, Fiji, for the Regional Guidelines for Prosecutors and Witness Support Officers to support Vulnerable Witnesses through the Prosecution of Sexual and Gender Based Violence Offences.
Juleen Fatiaki is a Principal State Counsel at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of Fiji. At the time of the Workshop, Juleen was the Head of the Sexual Crimes Division which is a specialist unit within the ODPP responsible for prosecuting crimes of sexual and gender-based violence, child sexual abuse and other crimes where children are victims.
Juleen’s presentation explores vicarious trauma from the perspective of a prosecutor, explaining how trauma manifests and how she manages it. Juleen shares her personal experiences, and how she has used these experiences to ensure her work is trauma informed.
Fisi Nasario is a Superintendent at the Director of Prosecutions, Fiji Police. Fisi shares a personal experience of his with vicarious trauma, and outlines the ‘no-drop’ policy in place in Fiji to protect victims of SGBV.
