The new version wasn't as good sadly. the sound effects on everything just fit perfectly. Think I need to rewatch this
I loved that the Visitor ships had two feels to them. They had bright white decks and flair in some parts where they showed their human guests how nice and benevolent they were. Then, in the dark sections was where the genuine monstrous parts happened.
OK, so...John has no problem draining Earth of its water (although that made no sense, seeing there's plenty of water in the universe), no problem using humans for cannon fodder and food, but he calls the nuclear detonation of one Mother Ship "obscene destruction". Way to be the good guy, there, John....
up to this moment (or the 80s where the series was showed) there isnt any proof that water is abundant in the Universe; u may refer to the chemical elements (hydrogen and oxygen), but oxygen is not common neither; only in some very scarce meteors was observed some form of ice (and in most cases ice is not based on water at all, it's iced poisonuos gases the norm); in fact, at least for a carbon-based life, water must be present in liquid form in a planet and so far that has never been observed in our own galaxy (the extent in whic scientists are seaching, giving the limitations of our technology); if water or life were common in the Universe they should be everywhere but that, again, is not the real scenario; so for any hostile alien invader who depended on water it will be absolutely imperative to take control of Earth's water supplies (and maybe using us or our pets or wildlife as food as a bonus); think of it from our own real actual perspective: we are starting to thinking about colonizing the moon, Mars or whatever other "suitable" space place we could put our feet and hands on; no wonder NASA and every other major space organization is searching for "Earth-like" planets (which include at least some form of water-like or atmospheric conditions similar to our own planet)
jpowell180 up to then they were using force to get what they needed from Earth. Food and water. But now it was all tainted and deadly to them. There was no reason to stay any longer. And destroying Earth wouldn’t accomplish anything beyond a petty act of vengeance.
Yes because the visitors needed the Earth for food and water. It was obscene destruction. A complete waste. Not that he cared about humanity. He just didn't want the Earth and its resources destroyed.
