- Hello viewers, In this episode with V Sriram, we are going back to Chennai. If you have noticed the name of roads in Chennai, it will be changed at certain time periods. For example, the British have given one name, and our Government have changed that, this will happen usually. But people will use the old name as well as the new name simultaneously. So today, we are going to see about such a road “Broadway”. Broadway is usually termed as a wide road but you can see that this road might not be broad nor wide. It is a very small road. The name of the road is officially changed to Prakasam Road. There is a history behind the name. Mr Prakasam is a famous Lawyer from Chennai. He act as the CM of Chennai province and later became the first CM of Andra Pradesh. There are a lot of things about Mr Prakasam and the Broadway which are discussed in this video. I agree that what Mr.Prakasam did was a unfathomable act, but it is Stephen Popham's name should have been there because he was the inception of this place. Probably could have had the statue of Mr.Prakasm at the law college entrance but not his name. The reason why Thanirthurar market is because the market was just by the canal and the transportation of the vegetables was done by the same canal where now the ditch water is flowing. This canal connects the Cooum and the Adyaar river, thanks to Ex-Chief minister of TN who initiated the project of MRTS along the canal and reducing the size of it. Where the Thanirthurar Market is now an high raise building called S&S Ishan.
Same names do exist in Puducherry 1. White down 2. Muthiyalpettai 3. Mannadi 4. Yedapalayam around the beach side
