It’s not that PSA is “too tight” on their requirements, it’s that they are straight up not even grading cards anymore. They got buried in submissions and are just slapping labels with random grades on these bulk orders. Go look at the grading standards on PSA’s website and read the description of what a Near Mint 7 is and compare it to the Ja Morant. There’s no way it’s a 7. PSA 7s can have “frayed corners, 70/30 centering, printing blemishes, surface wear, out of focus photos and wax stains on the back.” I’d venture to say no ultra modern card is a 7 except ones that have been damaged or severely mishandled. SGC is fair and consistent whether people like them or not. Can’t say that about PSA.

And there grades are very inconsistent, the value will eventually suffer badly for this. Imagine you buy a ton of 9's and 10's on eBay but there's no way those cards deserved a 10. Ive said this before on your other videos...if SGC comes back higher, its because PSA got it wrong and they are inconsistent. But If PSA comes back higher, its because SGC is more of an accurate grade and PSA is inconsistent. All these experiments prove is that grading is subjective. If you want more detailed experiments then crack out those same SGC slabs and resend back to SGC grading ten more times and see if they come back the same grade. It does not matter what SGC does, they can do no wrong. Same can be said about any preferred slab company.

SGC has always been more consistent and accurate than PSA. I have been grading with PSA, SGC, and BGS from the early 1990's. Tough grades are not better, accurate grading is better. Most of the graded cards in this video by PSA is really way off. My recent PSA order was not as tough as yours, so PSA's consistency even changes from order to order / month to month/ year to year. I was expecting at least 5-7 of them to be PSA 10's and the BEST i've gotten so far is a PSA 9. 4 of the cards I thought would be PSA 10 or 9's came back as 5's....all of them. To me a 5 should be damaged, frayed, off center, or have massing printing issues that it's a blatant issue you can see w/the naked eye. I've looked through jewelers loops to find the issues and they just aren't there.
I'm done w/PSA and I'm going 100% SGC. They're turn around times are better, their fees are better, I like the holders and I think they're much more fair to the submitter than PSA will ever be.

Well you say your not submitting to PSA but nobody is because it cost $250 bucks. If you think PSA is giving lower grades to cards that deserve higher grades you might want to look at HGA closer as they refuse to give cards a 10 that should be. I have several subs with HGA so I’m not solely PSA. I think personally the divide is happening where there will be PC slab companies which HGA has opened up to and the standard resell companies for high end slabs. Based on my experience at the National PSA isn’t going anywhere anytime soon as the standard by which cards are valued. I applaud you because someone has to be first. Thanks for the content.

I appreciate that MSC. I think HGA gets the Benefit of the doubt more than PSA Because of the sub grades, there is a level of explanation there that tells you what variable is responsible for you’re overall grade. Also the fact they have 3 levels of a high graded card, a 9.5, 10, and flawless. That coupled with sub grades gives HGA, and even BGS for that matter, give more transparency to their grades. PSA has nothing.

I also just hate the idea of one person, perhaps even a newly hired employee with limited experience, at any of these companies having the sole responsibility to make this determination. BGS will make a huge comeback as collectors like us want explanations for the grade. As a person who was offered multiple jobs as a grader with PSA and SGC 20+ years ago, I boldly appreciated and respected BGS grades over PSA all the time. However, you MUST take into consideration the back of the cards - especially Prizm-style cards that are glossy on the back. Small roller lines/scratches will drop a card down from a 10 to 7 or lower.

You can honestly take this in so many directions. Depends the angle you want to take, who you like to grade with etc. Non biased opinion is a tough thing, we are all human.
Look at my videos, I just started sharing my breaks and PSA reveals. I have new orders with very high gem rate. I have some better and some worse then others. I prefer PSA, but own cards in many different slabs. Grading is subjective and anyone can argue each other's points. That's one thing that will never change and hasn't over 20 years. I have some PC cards I broke that will be back soon that I cracked from SGC just because I want them in a PSA slab and dont care about the grades if they come in higher or slightly lower. Now does that mean my 1 video is the end all be all definitive answer to snap/crossover? No, it just means that's the opinion on that day with that grader. My last 15 card order had some big 10s, 9s woulda been 75.00 and 10s are 500 and 1,000 cards and I pulled some nice grades on the 10 side where they may be 9s in someone elses eyes on another day, but 1 card was a Devers 6, and the the other Devers gold RC got a 10, it came from the same pack. 1 bad grade IMO doesn't set the stage for my whole order, so I learn to take the good and bad with grading whomever you choose to send cards to. Retro made a great point, COLLECT. Sell/flip etc is all great, you have to keep money moving, but I always have the collectors side of me in mind for every purchase/sale/trade.

Nat buys the card! He doesn't care too much about the grade. He's a collector.

Lol. Yeah we do. Honestly that’s the only people that hold the key for SGC. Those hand full of 1%ers collectors that still think that PSA is actually a better grading company. They drive the market in my opinion more than anyone else.

I can relate to this video 1000% and I'm so glad you made it because I am a new submitter like you spoke of and I got crushed on grades. An Anthony Edwards Revolution Rookie Auto couldn't even pull a 9. It got an 8 😢🙄. I felt like I had educated myself well and then I get back a Steph Curry Topps RC graded a 6 like WTH 😳😳

great video. PSA is a mess and consistency is the biggest problem and has been for some time. If your card is getting a 7 grade it should be absolutely noticeable to even a novice why it got that grade, hell it should be that way with an 8. SGC grades pretty fair in my opinion, and that doesn't mean easy.

Do you have a lower end PSA 10? Try cracking for a Gold label? May be an interesting video.
