The skid factory logo looks just like battersea powerstation in south east london
@Pete Mason I'm a Ford guy but I will say these are a sweet little motor. 351 not a fair comparison, it has more cubes and there's no substitute for cubic inches, except maybe a turbo lol. Compare it to a 302 that doesn't split the block at 500 - 600 up. They can be made to scream, well over 1000hp on factory block.
i know it's kinda off topic but does anybody know a good website to watch newly released series online?
Agree with Allan on making things look like they were meant to be. It's more of a pain, but a clean factory appearing install is worth it. Also loved the grey hair joke at Woody's expense, hahaha
Factory Look, also is a big help to avoid hassles if you get pulled over by a cop that doesn't like Car Culture.
Love these builds. Great engenering, realibility, design, stock look and super fast sleepers are made by this guy. One of the greatest RUclips car mechanics.
Also makes it easier to work on later
"I don't think you're applying yo self" Al keeps dropping these "Friday" quotes, What a legend!!
Not only Australia, these cars were sold throughout RHD Asian countries, South America and throughout the Caribbean, these things were everywhere in Trinidad and absolutely loved them!
Thailand had stacks. South Africa. Some made it to Kenya and Nepal. Indonesia has a healthy retro Kingswood scene even now.
"You're not Australian, you're Tasmanian" HAHAHAHA
so true hey like totally diff country lol hahahahahahahahaahahhhahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahhhhhaaaaaahhhhhhhhaaaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaahhhhhhaaaaaaaa
"A box full of neutrals." 😁
Totally agree with Al’s philosophy that it should look like it was always in there. Looks neat and tidy like a factory fitment.
im starting to realise that the skid factory builds cars with engines that are not the obvious choice. and its very refreshing.
This engine was a fairly common swap in the pre LS era. Even more retained the original bottom end and just used the heads from the EFI 304 "iron lion" with cam, headers and intake manifold to suit carb.
@@MattyFielding6 I get that. It's more that in the days of ls/SR20/2jz/coyote being the go to options for almost every swap it's refreshing to see older swaps still being done. This could have easily become an ls swap but it didn't and I appreciate that.
I like an LS swap as much as the next guy, but it's neat to see other stuff now and then.
"Work all day on that Blue Sky mine"
Well done Woody, you made me feel really old there.
"Ted Bullpit" lol, pretty sure only the Aussies will get that reference. 🤣🤣🤣
Hopefully they Baygon the towbar!

Not the Kingswood!
I've just Mr Sheened the dip stick.
The kingswood?! no one touches the Kingswood!
It's in my eyes! oww!!!
Al: That's what she said lmao !!
Very aaroncake of them 👌🏼
We used to be able to build a car in the states and never use a credit card- because we didn't have one! Now, it's easier all around and "Stainless Steel Braided Radiator Hoses" are cool! That's progress- for the speed merchants and the credit card companies. Great looking job Al, Woody- does my heart good, it does! FR
I'm from Scotland and it's the double of our old Ford Cortina Estate R Reg 1976 I loved that car and bits of it is still going in my Morgan kit car Love Watching your show Lads Cheers
I just got back from checking out a flat 6 cylinder air cooled Franklin helicopter engine. I'm sure a talented guy like you could fit it right in that VK.
Much respect to Al and making it look normal. The hard work is always trying to make it look like it was factory installed. Plenty of guys can do the work but it takes a good tradesman to know how to source, fit and finesse the job.... p.s. love the Ted Bullpitt line...
Best show on the tube at the moment. No bullshit
The editing is top notch. Even making the hammer and welding tacs on beat with the background music-- well done!
Awesome episode guys.
Your banter is the best. I'm entertained by that alone, and you guys building cars is a bonus!
haha love the pf references guys nice and subtle keep em up
Love it and Hughes performance know their stuff 😀
Fantastic episode, mates! Thanks for your support!!
I've got one of those bent valve flywheel stoppers in my toolbox, over here in the UK. My mechanic showed me that useful tool back when I did my apprenticeship in the early 90s. Used it a lot!
Allen is the sharpest tool in the shed . Woody is a cool dude . What a team and thanks for the wit and laughs . and evil genius level mods.
Kiwis too. My Dad had a HQ Kingswood wagon and my grandpa had a Belmont.
Woody's from Tassie well that explains a lot.
Good that he's had the operation to blend in with the northern islanders.
Can hardly see the scar
@@rayg9069 Do you know why they were born with two heads but?
So they had someone decent to talk to when they went to the mainland.
@@thefunkyplumber Touche' ;-)
@@thefunkyplumber You must also be from Tassie because we're the only people who call it the "Mainland"
Don't forget about the AU Falcon Thermo fans. They are good for alot of other applications aswell.
When it looks so easy you know you looking at a pro!!
Little known fact - Chevrolet (GMC) Started producing the Kingswood in america in the 1950's (56?) and produced it all the way into the early 70's. All though less popular due to completion with the Suburban (america's longest running production car) There are still many good examples of Chevrolet Kingswood wagon's floating around the USA if someone wanted to replicate this build in america ;)
drag week builds are still the best
"Mesothelioma, thats a clothing brand isn't it?.". I neary choked on my dinner!.

James Hardie .......Ed’s brother apparently.
@@drewchisholm7198 Bwahaha! Clever. I totally missed that.
great to see u back after drag week !!!
Love the content. Perfect episodes Everytime.
Favourite build yet! Ohhh the childhood memories of the old boys HZ Wagon with T04 Garrot hooked to it. 👌
Nice to see a Kingswood Country reference.
When i was 16 i put spark plugs, wires and stays in my 1991 cavalier, my uncle whose a mechanic said "looks factory" that compliment has stayed with me for decades. The best compliment a custom builder can recieve is asking what they did.
you guys are the best , makes things so simple and understanding
You guys put out some of the best videos, thanks guys!
quality work lads the amount of times i have seen thermos mounted with bolts thru the rad fins is mind blowing
Love the big worm reference
Was messing with his emotions!!
Either that is a huge drill press or Alan is a gnome
I was looking at a (very) secondhand HJ wagon on fleabay and half an hour later, here I am. There's something very sympathetic about your treatment of this great old car that I thoroughly applaud. Worse than Taswegian, I'm a pommie cant with a big soft spot for Kingswood wagons - I presume the programming is working as intended.
Well done fellas. We got two might HQ's one been a 308 Sandman ute with a first-gen analogue Holley Pro Jection and Elderbrock manifold. Still remember it like yesterday when the ads came on TV about the NEW injected VN V8!!!!!! You need a V8??? Why not was the reply. Great to see you doing this to an Aussie car. Long live Aussie V8.
Loves this build!! Just for future reference there are 2 types of trans cross member, the one used for the 308 with the TH400 was lower than the stock cross member and flat plates across it to strengthen it.
I like this build so far (started at EP1) .. wish it were a Falcon (Ford) with a Ford motor, but I like seeing old iron getting modern love .. (and good on ya for NO DOUBLE tappin' the torqie) ..
You guys are just good humans! Between this, Benny and all the MCM stuff I'm entertained!
Loving this video got me a hq kingswood wagon that I’m putting a VN 355 stoker engine In, just a mild engine for exact same purpose daily cruiser. Very helpful thanks boys
I owned 3 kingswoods, 1 belmont and 1 Premier. Great video!!! You guys are changing my mind on autos, I've always been a manual person. BTW, good to see Woody rock up to work with an Overtaking Lane shirt on
thanks guys.
Great show lads !
Love the vid guys! Keep up the great work
Well done boys.
for the US ppl i gues that is a "baby kingswood" ;) the US one was HUGE.
Sick episode as usual
I’ll always get excited for a fast wagon
Crazy to see those old Subaru fans. We only ever got them on the 1st gen Legacy and strangely the 1st gen Forester I believe. Subaru always had a solid cooling system overall though. Keep up the great work guys!
Deadset love your channel. Keep up the good work
My first car was an HJ Monaro so i am loving this series! 👌👌👌
You should have sold it for chump change and bought a car that is now worth nothing but cost you a fortune.
@@theskidfactory you mean that's not how it's done....oh bugger
@@theskidfactory are you stalking me? 😐
I've never been in a kingswood or anything but I love those beasts
Commode is going hybrid. And don't forget to fit that energy polariser.
Well done sirs. I love your banter and wit. Good on ya'.
What size torque converter did you change too?
Best banter ever gents. More power to yas.
I'd say a twin turbo LS with a holley intake manifold. Judging from the hole in the bonnet and the intercooler sitting in front of the car
Big single
Great to see an update and great laugh guys
Set of old style rear blinds will look nice in the beach cruiser
Vk + turbo ls = mad fun
love the bent valve to stop engine from turning. genius
Really enjoy the show and learning tips and tricks so with that said... Buy another grinder so one is for cutting and one is for grinding. Learn from my mistakes using a cutting disc as a grinding disc mate. I would hate for you or anyone to go through what I did with a cutting disc shattering and hitting two blokes in the throat and face. I'm a boilermaker so I have plenty of experience and it was a costly and impatient mistake that I have to live with. Please take this message as it was intended,, not as me being a smart arse but someone who doesn't want it to happen to someone else
Love ya work Al.
@19:54 Wait Woody, where is your eye protection. No lemon squash for you. Woody have been a bad boy LOL
Hey guys. Another great build, tx for this show!
Can you do some dieselstuff again ? Loved the patrol build 😊
Loved it, great duo guys. Barra in the Vk. Or a star fire 4 turbo. 😁
Awesome video and excellent content my father had king wood wagon like gunmetal grey look like the that but not with power steering
Looks like HX or HZ grille. HJ had slats horizontal with the Holden emblem in the middle. HJ wagons also had the backbreaker fuel cap mounted so low down it would piss out petrol all the time.
Barra in the VK!
woody , htf did nature give you a friar tuck ring of gray hairs around your head dude
Epic man!
Too many u-turns under the sheets according to comedian Col Elliot
I love Opel. Still drive one today!
Had the 1.9l Opel powered LX Torana. Even with an overhead cam it was still a boat anchor. The only thing it could beat was a Starfire powered Torana! After the second Opel punched a rod through the block we changed to a 253. Car is still owned by one of the local young lads and the 253 is in my shed. Should by it back and put it all back together.
Thats great man ! But im from the Netherlands so thing are a bit diffrent here. My best one was a Opel Vectra. Model 2000. (From 1998) It had a C20xe in it. Pretty good! But rust was a big isseu 😭. But i had a few so i lost count haha.
Now i have a smal Corsa nugget. But its a 1.8 Gsi so it goes pretty wel..
Love the kingswood
🇺🇸 here... looks like a Chevelle or Oldsmobile wagon we used to have back in the day.
Lovin the old q. Wanna do one myself one day. 👍🏼
Love the Ted Bullpit reference.
i know you love your barras and your v8s. i would absolutely love a video where you fit the AU intec vct motor in something older, maybe a falcon ute? yes! id love to see an early falcon with a not so late model inline 6 :D want power? whack a turbo on it. (btw i own a XH with the AU VCT engine, it goes harder than the stock motor)
Or a 4.1l carby 250 crossflow 😉
You two would be so much fun to work with. Hilarious.
Lokar does make some really good problem solving widgets, got one of their accelerator pedals in mine, hella expensive though, let us get a look at the dash, trying to see the trans selector/column shift mayhem.
I'm from Wales (the old Wales) and I've never seen one of these before you worked on one.
if you were from New South Wales and are older than 30 you would have seen thousands of them :)
i learned to drive in one. they are pretty rare now because they rusted out really fast
@@gdawwg1125 I'm over 30 and learnt to drive in a rover/mg metro you don't see many around anymore.
As a kid we called the 72 the limo it started everyday but couldn't go up a hill lol... it was around 13yrs old then always wanted to rebuild 1! Push button doors and the leather straps on the inside.. you know if you know 🙂
WOOOOO, more old iron pushrods!!!
Why the love for Subaru fans for this build?
I have always used them in the past because they came in a few different variations of width and height so you could mix and match to get the width right. They are steel housing so modifying the mounting is easy and they have very strong and reliable motors and big blade pitch while somehow also being very low height. Pretty much everything an expensive aftermarket fan doesn't achieve.
The Skid Factory grouse, thanks for the info.
A helluva hullaballooo sounds like something Ian Chappel might say.
Was that before or after the under arm was bowled.
Worst day in Australian sport's man ship.
@@deanrobert8674 I said Ian, Not Greg or Trevor you butthurt Kiwi lol.
Vk +barra=mad sick ride. 😉
Poor old AU, everyone hates on it but other than looking like Eeyore on a bad day it was actually a pretty decent car, super easy and cheap to fix too - there are still a load of them on the road which is just not true of a lot of other mass volume vehicles from the same period.
In the us people us Ford Taurus fans for all kinds of swaps. Snag a bunch the next time your over for drag week :)
Exactly the same fans on my 1998 AND 2001 USDM Foresters.
Ah, a friendly looking wagon, brings me smiles. :)
Making a bracket for these fans... perfect opportunity to get the funk out
Could never afford to find WB radiators on my budget back when I thought I could afford to play around on older Holdens so used to use Ford XC radiators as they were crossflow & had the inlet/outlet on the appropriate corners for the Holden V8s...
I used to try & steer clear of auto's myself & for same reasons above never had anything to do with Turbo 700's (They were still new here in Oz at the time!) so have no first-hand knowledge on the matter, but from a fairly reliable source I was told the Turbo400 crossmember was a zero modification/bolt-in job for the Turbo700 boxes...
Pickle me Grandmother, next time Woodrigos starts up with that "Iron Lion" malarkey, please drown him in Bullpit references & quotes! ;)
Thanks again fella's, very much enjoying this series!
Turbo 350 x-member was the bolt in....T400 was the same as tri-matic but strengthened with flat plates at both end and mount holes in different position
I was SURE that was the case but ol' mate who always had auto's was adament that it was the 400 cross-member....
As I was always running manuals I ended up just going with what he claimed to 'keep the peace'....
Thanks for verifying what I'd suspected all those years ago!
How r u finding the toolpro electrical tools?
Safety glasses, what a great example you set for the kiddies!!!
As again love it. Aussie cars.
driving up and down the west coast to karratha and back, one day the whittenoom sign was just plated over haha people still living there
