    Bro where do you put your mint like sun shade, total shadow

    • @terramatergardens
      @terramatergardens  Год назад +1

      I put mine in full sun, a few feet away from other plants, because mint can be aggressive. They don't need much, they are really hardy. Sometimes showing up on the other ends of garden beds after a season or two.

    I’m doing this but didn’t know I had to trim the leaves it looks okay tho so I hope it’s ok

      Mint roots fairly easy so trimming leaves isn’t absolutely necessary. But you’d probably have better success with less leaves. One, roots will grow out of those nodes. Two, the less leaves the less water loss through the leaves. Being there’s no root system that could be a factor

    How many inches should the new roots from stems be, before I plant them in soil? And what do I do with leafs that go black/start dying, even if the roots are comming along fine?

    • @terramatergardens
      @terramatergardens  Год назад +1

      I would say 1-2 inches for the length of new roots. Cut or pinch of dead and dying leaves, but try not to expose too much of the stem tissue.

      @@terramatergardens so plant them deep if stems are long? Right?

      @@T4Tracy2 It depends, but generally the deeper the better.

      Just a few days on most mints! Depends on how long you want the roots to be.

    Should I cut the leaves?, if I leave them will seeds come out?

    • @terramatergardens
      @terramatergardens  3 месяца назад

      When rooting spearmint cuttings in water, it's generally best to remove the lower leaves along the stem to prevent them from rotting underwater. However, you can leave a few leaves at the top to support the cutting as it establishes roots.
      Regarding seeds, spearmint primarily spreads through underground runners rather than seeds. Leaving the leaves on the cutting is unlikely to result in the production of seeds. Instead, the cutting will focus its energy on growing roots, allowing it to establish itself as a new plant.
      If you're interested in growing spearmint from seeds, you can collect seeds from mature plants once they flower and produce seeds. However, propagating spearmint from cuttings is typically faster and more reliable.
      I hope this information helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

      "I have a few more questions about mint. I've planted some and it's growing close to the ground, should I leave it like this? Also, I've tried moving a mint plant from the ground into a bottle and it didn't survive. Lastly, would a single piece of mint be enough to fill a large pot?",

    How long does it take for roots to show? I see new leaves coming in but no roots yet

    • @terramatergardens
      @terramatergardens  Год назад +1

      Cuttings placed in water should be focused on producing roots. You should see new roots within 7-10 days. Take it out of direct sunlight, that could be reason why it’s focused on leaf growth.
