How to Make Mint Plants 3-4 times more fragrant!

  • Keeping your mint plant properly groomed will ensure the fragrant oils
are flowing. Mint will loose its scent after a little while if it is
allowed to grow woody. The best way to fix that is to trim it all ack.
Pruning will encurage new shoots and make your mint 3 to 4 times more
    minty!

I have mint that was planted by my Grandmother. I am the third generation to care for our little mint grove, and I hope to be able to pass it on to my own children one day. In the mean time, I'm always happy to share it, and tips my family have accumulated over time caring for the exact same plants.
The best way to maintain mint is to wait until the spring when the new sprouts are coming up then go in and remove last years woody stalks. This will make way for the new plants. Be careful, because if you just yank them free new plants can come with them. If that happens, you can always just put the young plants bank in the soil; mint is remarkably hardy.
Another good way to keep them fit and fresh is to clip them back about mid summer. Of course, if your mint crop is a food source, you will probably be harvesting from it regularly and won't need to do this. Mint grows incredibly fast and they're resilient, so any mint removed will just be filled in in a few weeks by the rest of the mint. Mint also travels, so if you want to separate them when planted in the ground, from other plants, you have to be vigilant. Just cut back or cull any growth as it encroaches upon other plants to keep from being overrun.

As a kid my grandmother had mint that spread around her porch. I would literally mow it which smells amazing. This takes out the old growth, and allows the new growth to thrive.... honestly I thought he was just going to run it over with the mower... probably would have been the best for it lol

Mint is also wonderful for babies with Colic. A bit of mint leaves boiled in water then strained and cooled. It calms the stomach and eases the pain they have.

Reggie Radio, Look up Colic dear. 3 out of 10 babies suffer from it and doctors have no idea why nor do they know how to treat it. What works with one may not with another. And no babies do not eat junk food. They do not eat any solid food at all at 2 months old. Its breast milk or formula for nutrition.

Great tip to remind people to 'cut back' and harvest their herbs. I cut my mint at least 3-4 times during the growing season. ALWAYS drying my harvest. I use it daily for tea blends. I also do the 'ice cube' method of preserving so I have mint 'fresh' for some of my favorite beverages. A mint oil infusion is great for a massage oil. So many uses for your mint.

The pruning mimics beneficial natural processes. In nature a herbivore would have eaten it down to where there were no more leaves and then moved on (and maybe left some natural fertilizer behind). Many plants have evolved to do well like this, this is why some plants seem to do so well when harshly cut back. This treatment is not hurtling the plants, it's actually giving them ideal conditions that seem harsh by very different human standards.

Yes, this is the right thing to do. I finally cut my jungle back for the meter reader after it had gown to flower. I would suggest letting it go to flower at least once in it's life. The bees and other insects will love you for it. About the time my first harvest was dry enough for smudge sticks, the next young thick crop was ready to harvest. Mint really is invasive although welcomed, and nothing short of roundup will eradicate it completely. Don't worry about over-harvesting this.

I have about 600 feet of mint along my outer fence line. Looks Gorgeous when it is not out of control, but it quickly gets that way...do you think a hedge trimmer would be feasible? I have hand trimmed, and it takes hours upon hours to work my way down the sidewalk. Not to mention not being able to hold up my arms that long since it is in a raised planter along the sidewalk that is about 3 feet off the ground! I think most of the sidewalk is hidden at this point in the season due to my mint. Bees love though. :)

Make mint tea out if it. You can also mix it with other herb teas.

There's a difference from mint to
    Peppermint.
Pemint is 40% more. Powerful authentic
While Just mint only is 0.5%
If want to confirm. My knowlegment learn thru years of research ask
    Google
    Is like to say
Reg Spinac vs Malabar Version of spinach
American Spinach have 20% more iron then Malabar

He's lieing about the mint rooting. The water had to be airated, or else most of the mint will die before it roots. So this means changing the water unless you put the mint in an aquarium, like I did. Infact most rooting plants follow this rule of needing airation in the water to root.
