I realized for the first time in this video how fast the forage Harvester move through the field, visible when you film it from the side when filling the truck, the older John Deere tractors is very special, another great video
Thank you for watching. It takes allot of waiting to get that side shot because you can only see the chopper on the last pass. The rest of the time as you noted the truck covers it up.
GEORGE ISAAK...Thank you for the excellent videos....very well done...you have a very nice voice and a good way of explaining the entire operation..I live in MANITOBA CANADA but have relatives in IOWA.....so I really like to watch the corn harvest..Keep up you good work.
The 8630 sounds like a beast. I'm sure in its heyday it was a blast to drive. A lot has changed in tractor technology since the '70s, of course, but that doesn't diminish what machines of that era could (and still can) do.
They were the biggest tractor Deere offered in 1975. All mechanical and all steel back then. Computers and digital displays started going into the tractors in the 80s. These iron horses will last a long time.
Did you know deere actually lose power with a straight pipe. Lack of back pressure to build proper boost. Tested it on a pto dyno when i was a tech with deere.
Thank you BTP. Did you get there in time to film from the begining the one shot of the pile looked like they were just getting pile started. Old iron still getting the job done.
Glad you liked the video. This file was a few days worth of chopping and still had a day to go to top it off. The empty pit was an example of how big the pile gets from the ground. Hopefully some day I can film a bunker when they bring the first truck load in.
The 8630's back in 1976 were going for about $52,000.00 brand new at the time B.T.P.,now your looking at $389,000.00!! for a 9620R series. What a difference 42 years makes!!.
bigtractorpower They have never been cheap, farmers had to break their backs to own a new John Deere 8630 back in the day and its even worse now big time.Excellent videos as always B.T.P..🚜
You grind the corn before it's fully mature? Is it "corn grass" or are the cobs already developed and with grain? In Farming Simulator I think almost everybody waits until the plant is fully mature and dry to chop, like when it's ready for a grain harvest, which from this video is clearly wrong, after all silage is green and still moist instead of beige and dry like straw.
Very enjoyable video to watch on sunday or any day. Like the bunker tractors. Are rubber coated steam rollers made to compact the corn or the weight crack rubber ? Nice multi part segment. Love these BTP video's.
Thank you for watching. I enjoy tracking down these classic 4wds. Good question. This dozer work in the silage is it’s main job. It also spreads manure. The operator showed me a picture of hooked up to a large box spreader.
I like finding these 70’s classic. I remember seeing them new at the dealer. It’s harder and harder these to find them in good working order with nice paint and decals.
Hi that John Deere 4650 looks like a mechanical 4wd drive not the hydraulic 4wd assist correct me if i am wrong in the UK we would not class it as assist
In the video on the pile, you can see the front drive shaft, and the front differential. It definitely is mechanical front wheel drive. 8:34 The announcer said front wheel assist, he did not say hydraulic.
The hydraulic front assist option was only available in the 60’s and 70’s. You would see the hydraulic front wheel drive on models like the 4620, 4630 and 4640. The 50 series were all mechanical front wheel drive. It was a big new feature for the 50 series.
You could use a bull dozer. I have seen it done that way but a wheeled tractor moves much faster and is easier to maneuver and turn around in a pile than a bull dozer.
Those two tractors should never stop
👍👍

Man! That ole boy is moving right along!
It sure can eat up some corn.

Another great video BTP. Thank you!
Thank you for watching. It’s fun finding a classic hard a work.
That forage harvester was really going fast! Some power in the engine, for sure.
They sure can move along.
Can almost smell that corn silage !! Great video
Thank you for watching.
That harvester is on a roll! The truck looked like it was panting trying to keep up.😁
It can move 10 tons in 2 minutes. They are impressive.
Hey I’m first that sure is my kind a tractor there. Sweet 8630 with a straight pipe.
Thanks for watching. A chrome muffler always stands out.
We had a 4440 , then 4640 and then a 8640, all with them fancy chrome straight pipes... Now I am deaf in my right ear.. NO FUN ! ! ! 😢
Are you left handed?
No. And I look over my right shoulder most of the time watching the implement.
Did you know deere actually lose power with a straight pipe. Lack of back pressure to build proper boost. Tested it on a pto dyno when i was a tech with deere.
+bigtractorpower Very nice video. Really enjoyed seeing those two classic John Deere tractors.
It was neat to get to film them working side by side.
Probably the fastest speed cutter this year. He is moving.
He was powering through the corn.
that 8630 sounds soo good. :)
This was a good filming find.
yes it was. i need 2 straight pipe my 1586...lol

Tractors are a big investment. I will do a spec run down video on the 8630 in the next few months.

Are the tires in the tractors filled for added weight?
Yes there is fluid in the inside tires.
Thanks that was great!, Love chopping corn
Forage harvesters are one of my favorite machines to film. Thank you for watching.
I have a johndeere 8630, great tractor but I had 2 times when I had axle problems
The 8630 is one of my all time favorite tractors.
Love the old green paint!
This was a good looking 8630 to find.
You oughta come to oklahoma where plenty are still in use. Farmer near kingfisher, ok has shudder shades on his windows.
@@coltoncarpenter3790 I'd love to my best friend dairys an still runs a 5010&4010 great old tractors!

Videogames are not always right when it comes to the real world.
Want to learn something. All you have to do is google it and/or youtube
Pure JD Sound! 👍
Great video
The 8630 was fun to track down and film.
Another good one. Thanks
Thank you for watching. It’s fun tracking down these classic tractors.

Corn chopping season always provides lots of interesting filming. Thank you for watching.
Thank you.
Thank you for watching.
I miss the farm life
It’s a good line of work.
bigtractorpower i know i work on farm all my life. Now i drive truck
Great video!! At the beginning of the video how fast was the chopper going?
I forgot to look when I was in the cab. He was moving along.
Alot of guys have those model year tractors around here in South East MN.
Very cool.
What other jobs is the 8630 doing on that farm ?
Great Video, thx for your work !

It’s all fun and games till your hand hurts from shifting all day lol
8630 Nice !

Wow, quei bestioni spingono anche una montagna!!!👍💪👈
Thank you for watching.
How many gallons of fuel dose that take?
That is a good question. I am not sure. I will have to ask for future videos.
another great video !!!!, id gladly chew my foot off to be involved in any type harvest operation, cant imagine a better life.
Harvest time is an exciting time of year.
I spotted some microphones so do they use CB band and how much chatter on the 📻
This was my first visit to the farm. I did not hear allot. They used it to talk to the trucks on where to move while filling.
Enjoyed
Glad you liked it. Thank you for watching.

Thanks for the reply bigtractorpower I am a big 50 series fan
275 hp? I thought they where 290 engine horse
According to the sales brochure 275.
@@bigtractorpower oh ok. Our 8650 was 290. They probably got a power bump over the 40 and 30's
Why not use a dozer
You could use a bull dozer. I have seen it done that way but a wheeled tractor moves much faster and is easier to maneuver and turn around in a pile than a bull dozer.
Bulldozers are hard on concrete
Rubber tires help pack silage better.

Thank you.
