We have a CaseIH 8840 Windrower. Bought it at dairy farm total dispersal auction 2 years ago, without originally intending to. Went to the auction interested in their center-pull New Holland, but instead we came home with a freakin' self-propelled gem of a machine. Seriously, we bought it so cheap, it kinda felt like we stole it! She's powered by a Cummins 4 cylinder turbo diesel. It's 100 times better than any pull-type machine we've ever used or owned. Love that Deere you are running, but sure won't be able to afford one that nice and new any time soon.
These demo machine videos are a real treat together with your normal really nice and interesting content, thanks for making them and thanks to sloan implement for making them possible.
Agreed. Good for everyone.
Love to see your dad in the videos reminds me of my farm with me dad and Scott working !! That thing is bad ass !! Expensive toy
didnt like it at first when they brought to you, but seeing what its capable of doing, that thing is bad to the bone, love it
What is nice about the self propelled mowers as well is they allow you to free up a tractor in case you need the tractor someplace else.
Or you buy another tractor at the same cost or less and use it for EVERYTHING and not just one purpose.
Nice Video!!!
The Johnny is looking awesome!!
6:37 looks like a google earth view scaled out with a giant machine mowing down a full forest. Cool drone views as always!
Cool Video with the introduction and the Action scenes👍🏻
I'm going to start haying again right after high school hopefully depending on if we don't find any other work to do because all we do is make hay or go and do some logging
Man technology has come a long way!
Yes, those tires are popular in certain areas where soil is heavier with more moisture. The turf type is more popular here in central wa state as well as I'm sure in NM, AR, CA
OLN got one and he loves it.
Good music with editing !!
Very nice mower!
That is awesome pice of equipment
As a kid, we grew alfalfa outside Liberal, Kansas and cut it with a New Holland swather. Times have indeed changed.
I like the drone shots
That is one heck of a machine.
One awesome machine!!!!!!
Great video
We have the same machine we love it
looks a fun machine to use.
Watching this close to 18 months later, I'm not at all surprised that this machine didn't get added to the fleet. Saving time is great, but so is saving money. The economics of the purchase "work" when you value your saved time highly enough to justify the payments. Some (OLF, for instance) can, but most can't. Maybe someday, when you have a larger beef herd to feed, it would make sense.
hammer down.. you got that right Travis....
I like all your tractors you got I know who got a tractor like that
Thanks for posting a great vid! In your final commentary, it would have been nice to hear how many acres you mowed, and how long it took to complete. Thanks again.........
have you ever thought of putting a front linkage and pto on the 8235r, and using either a double or triple mounted mower set up. It's alot cheaper than a windrower plus it will make more use of the tractor. We have a triple john deere mower on a new holland T7.235 and it handles it really well power wise and our crop conditions would be similar to yours.
A question from an interested but ignorant viewer - this is a wonderful machine (even though it looks like a backwards built tractor), do you have to cut the first row with manual steer so that the cut edge provides the point on which the auto steer recognises?
Thanks
Thanks for the vid,now you see why OLF uses these.
like the cab view, can you plz make more for that?? =D
until the seat safety switch fails and your $200k machine sits in the field for 2 weeks waiting for the part.
Good one
Nice machine
very good make some hay stacks like the old days
with the higher speed would there come more maintenance such as more tires used and bearings abd things like that
Sweet machines, cuts dry time, reduces mow time, and if you have a lot of hay most cost effective way ........................
That is one awesome machine. I wonder if they make a 1 acre farm size. ;)
With it being self propelled , how much does it add to the cost? Sure looked like it has more that can go wrong with it, lol. I was curious if when it comes to the bottom line the added expense can be justified. I can see some advantages with speed and keeping the cutting in front of you. Was just wondering if it penciled out in the end. Nice clip. !!
If you plan on making high quality dry hay it may be hard with this machine. Cutting a 16' swath of thick alfalfa and bunching it into a windrow that is around 9' feet wide makes consistent drying nearly impossible, especially with Wisconsins humidity. If you buy that you might have to plan on getting a line-wrapper as well.
have you ever tried international harvester/ case
It's a handy piece of equipment it would be a good investment for I like how it lay the hay down more flat will dry better fellows you sold me on it. Travis you are looking good up there in the W260 just need a place to keep your food and drinks then you will be good to go.
Those have the option to come with a small refrigerator/warmer next to the seat.
devomx302
yeah that be the one I would want because how long you would be cutting hay that can be all day job.
if u don't mind me asking would consider buying it?
Jamie looks better in the jump set!Sorry Alex. Are you cutting hay or flying?Does it have after burner.Fun to see, thanks.
Seems like a waste of money 230k-250k for a machine with a 10ft head when you can buy a 3pt mower that's 30ft wide for 50k
You could get a hesston 6610 for like 3k though
You should maybe think about trading in the mower you have now for the one it the video
I wonder how much it would have to slow down in the hay im mowing right now.
Northern farmer this thing is like the grand child of your windrowers
They need to make a merger attachment for these machines
When are you guys goind to get a John Deere skid steer?
I'm sorry if I didn't hear you in the video at all, but is was this a demo, or a lease...?
Do you have any raking or baling videos coming out any time soon?
check out The Farming Life on RUclips they have some good hay videos
Do they make a merger thing for the bottom of this machine... I know other companies have the option
i like it
it cool
A 3pt hitch mower has nothing on that thing!
Holy chit he was moving in the flats!
What y’all do with the MoCo
grandpa set you guys up good for so few acres
Whats the benefit using this machine instead of a tractor with a mower? Seems more versitile using the tractor with implements.
Self-propelled windrowers are more efficient and much more ergonomically friendly. If you've ever run one, you'd understand the first time you cut hay with it. If your farming operation can justify the expense, they are worth every-penny. Our operation can't justify the cost of new, but we bought a well-cared for used unit for dirt cheap at an auction a few years ago, and frankly, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Gotta watch that gps that’s why I try and get as close to zero as possible just to avoid locking on to wrong row
so they got the jd gator u can see it in back round
was that alfalfer?
i really wonder about the economics of these things when you factor in the inevitable cost of repairing some of the electronics in these machines.
the price of modern farming and being efficient
yeah, i prefer a trailer mower because with the self propelled one you are putting in a tank of diesel and leaving it sitting in a shed for most of the year. a tractor will always be used. the self propelled take up more space in the shed while a trailed mower can be tucked in the corner and stuff placed in front of it leaving no gaps. trailed is better
+the pilot penguin what model do you own?
So how many acres of hay do you think you would need to pay it off
do you live in South Dakota or Wisconsin
Why were the drive tires on backward?
is that an attachment or is that all that tractor does?
in estonia we call this kind of things "e-niiduk" which means "e-mower" and it just mows grass
Thats an awesome machine, what did your Dad think of it?
Very nice machine 16 feet header will mow lots of hay fast.
+Dwight Kuster next it's just a krone big M lol
Your hay will dry faster the way that Deere leaves the windrow..
To make that pay u need to convert you tillable land into hay ground!!
Or do a bunch of custom work.
Most people contract out to other farms to make the extra cash we do the same thing with the almond harvest
i was hoping to see a video of it in the thick for field
That is still to come.
+Dwight Kuster how are u related to Ryan?
Travis and Ryan are my sons.
+Dwight Kuster cool. Thanks for the reply Dwight. Greetings from Co Tipperary Ireland
Not sure but possibly the drive tyres on the mower is/are pointed in the wrong direction
How fast can it Mow? We have a 10 ft rear mounted mower and it did 10 acres in an hour in one field.
12-15mph
Im driving one just like this one I'm cutting at nite doing 12.3 acres and hour at 12 mph
my newholland has saved my ass few times
You need to get one like Oneloneyfarmer!
its the same this one just has more power and maybe a bigger head
+Midget I know. I just meant they need to get one cause oneloneyfarmer has one similar.
why do they need to get one?
I'm assuming you're going to bale what you cut? It looks pretty short in comparison to what Wes cuts on OneLonleyFarmer. Or was this just for demonstration purposes?
Cow hay (young, tender, high protein) vs. mulch hay (quantity). Plus, he said this is second cut.
yea thats second cut alfalfa so its always short like that.
What kind of price is on this thing? Did you get any video of it in the first crop hay?
+Massey1105driver I'm not sure what the price was on this one. Likely in the $150,000-$200,000 range. The first cut footage will be published Sunday.
+How Farms Work I thought maybe upwards of 250k, 150-200 k seems like a deal. Looking forward to seeing it in heavier hay.
Looks like the Windover You drive it Like a 0 turn mower But this mower may take up the whole road versus 1 lane
Heh, that's auto-steer almost takes the fun out of it.
only thing with auto steer is if you a use to not having it like my dad you keep touching the steering wheel and sending off so I tell him to seat on his hands
Right! Auto-steer is definitely a bit difficult to get used to. Personally, I'm not a big fan of all this automatic shit, but I will admit, it has its benefits.
how did you make your livestreams in the feild i want to make it
+Crofter390 It costs about $20 in data each time.
Aren't those front tires on backwards?
+Love2boat92 They're on backwards to reduce tread wear on the road.
I saw the same thing and was wondering that as well
+How Farms Work Oh ok. I didn't know that. Learn something new everyday. lol. I wonder if olfs tires are like that.
They're on backwards as well to reduce divots when turning around sharply in field. These windrowers can also come with a turf type tire.
devomx302 Wow. Interesting. I have not seen many of these windrowers with turf tires. They would get stuck more easily then.
Why are the wheels on this mower backwards?
how Wide is that
12 to 15 mph now that's cutting hay
we've had ours to 17-18 but you stop that once you hit a groundhog hole
This would pretty much pay for itself in time with the fuel savings of not having to cut and rake in separate passes. If you have a lot of cattle, this would be the ticket for sure.
The mower still rows it's a moco
+20 Minute Madness Gaming And More you still have to take it
+20 Minute Madness Gaming And More rake
I wish these weren't so expensive
dang that makes Dad's 800 windrower look like slow
That alfalfa looked like it was spotty lots of bare spots in it cant make big tonnage that way
We cut it early so sloan could show us how to run it without going to the ground we were hired to make the hay on.
Bring here and test it we have a stupid new holland pull type you can't really turn left with the pice of crap right turn you can turn really sharp
Did not know deer made a winwoer
EVER THOUGHT ABOUT A BUTTERFLY MOWER?
boondockr87 same, much more Efficiency do to more *workwidth*
and much less maintainence cost+ the whole combo costs less than these machines...
reason for using these types of mower is that it also conditions the hay with rollers. Which reduces dry time, and cuts out one more pass with the tedder.

ruclips.net/video/RNkhLaRiMYs/видео.html
why is the header so narrow
these are some kind of faster mowers, them are narrow but fast
BTW I like the old system more, wide and normal speed + windrowing
Bog engine for a small mower
To bad you do not have more fields to cut.:(
+Salmon Hunter We do, thirty acres of custom work. Video will be Sunday.
+How Farms Work what was that at the begining Ryan lol
i like.. :) am i the only the 1 thats seeing green lines in the vid?
Did u buy it
Hey Ryan and Travis can u show us how to drive a semi truck
When you buying it?
yep i was just joking
Why did the put the tires on backwards???
Thanks
How come so many famers are complaining about the hay price and cost yet buy new equipment. There isn't a piece of equipment I use that is new. Everything is before 1975.
+calvinfbrown Many farmers realize the value of time lost when using equipment that is broken down more often than it is running.
If you've got enough acres to cover and enough hay to put up and sell, new machinery can pencil out... but we're talking a LOT of hay, particularly for a "one trick pony" machine like this. These things are NOT cheap.
For the rest of us, you run the best you can and keep it fixed. Just because something's used doesn't mean it's that much more likely to break down... new equipment is SO overdesigned with electronic nonsense and SO overcomplicated it's just a matter of time before it breaks down... the more parts you have, the less reliable a thing is...
Besides, I have yet to see the cow that gripes that you're baling their hay with too old of a machine... LOL:) (Buyers, OTOH... well... )
Later! OL J R :)
i dont understand this vehicle!i am employed at a contractor and i drive a deutz 630 and i have a krone front mower and a towed krone rear mower.and thus far i have cut 2500-2600 acres of 1&2 cut.and i wouldnt swap my tractor for this thing!!i can unhook my mowers and haul silage or slurry.so what is the purpose of this deere?how could this improve my work day?
It is a time saver, and I bet it's very economical too!!
timesaver!?krone big m or tractor with butterfly mower is a time saver!!but i dont see the point of this!it would be nice to try one,but they dont sell them here.i need to own this AND a tractor too do the other jobs!seems like a expensive time "saver"
I can tell from your comments that you are not from the USA. In the US, they don't use tractors with front mounted implements. Yeah, it's fucking stupid. Honestly, there's no other way to put it. No clue why we don't here, but we don't.
Therefore, we have "dedicated" machines like these in order to do many tasks that could likely easily be done by machines that you guys in other countries have that hook up to and are powered from the front ends of your tractors.
My guess is that self-propelled windrowers are not sold where you live because, just as you mentioned, they are a pointless waste compared to what you folks are currently using there on your tractors.
If we had farm tractors here that could run a front-mounted hay header, we wouldn't need a machine such as this either.
How much does that cost ??? curious
$170k - $180k
i understand differ regions may have different pricing for all models tractors, combines, etc. I was giving a rough estimate of what we were quoted on a W260 we had demoed last year. Although it was not a fully equipped model....... It was not a base model.
can you just drive like normal without the GPS?
+tyler Marsh The second you touch the wheel the autosteer shuts down.
thank you that helps alot
