I am completely new to watercolor painting and have watched many tutorials. I would like to tell you that yours is the very best I have ever seen!!. You touch on areas that I had not heard of before and you are so easy to follow. Thank you and looking forward to the next one.
Oh, Consuelo! You’ve encouraged me so much! Thank you for the kind words-I’m so glad that you found the tutorial helpful and that this teaching technique helped you understand watercolors a little more.
Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions or tutorial requests ❤️🥰❤️
@@katrinacrouch you are such a sweetheart!!, no wonder you are a beautiful artist 🙏🏼🥰
Agreed!
I was an art student but got rid of all my supplies. I just purchased some water color supplies today and I’m going to get back into the art game for mental health. I’m gonna setup some painting stuff at this English garden in my city and have fun. But I plan on painting along to your tutorials to get my sea legs. You’re very talented!! So excited to start!
Oh that sounds delightful!! Drawing in a beautiful garden is my favorite way to do it. Hope the tutorials are helpful and boost your confidence again! ❤️
Me two.....I'm totally making a fresh start.Ive been a Recluse for 10 years after a Divorce.Im gonna get well into my watercolour art. This hopefully should help my Mental health x
best tutorial I ve seen until now.the way you teach in detail about mixing colors and everything is a blessing for beginners like me
Wow! Thank you so much - that means a lot to me
And vice-versa, sometimes what looks horrible after painting looks surprisingly better the next day. Thank you, this was a wonderful tutorial.
Yes! So true-I often need to take a break to get a fresh perspective after a longer work session (or sleepless night with the kids, hahh
Yes, sometimes it looks surprisingly great after a few years!
Thank you, your tutorials are easy to follow, very informative and inspiring.
Oh I’m so glad you’re enjoying them and finding them helpful! Thank you for leaving me some encouragement today ❤️
Very nice tutorial. I like your techniques.
The green you are using is pronounced pear -a- lean
Thanks!
Oh, thank you for the pronunciation tip ❤️
What a great tutorial! You explain things very well and this is a great painting for a beginner. Keep up the great work!
Oh I’m so glad you found it helpful ❤️ I enjoyed the process so much
beautiful work! you're a great teacher, I appreciate all that you say.
Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the encouragement 🥰 it means a lot to me
Lovely, love the fresh and simple effect!🤗🤗
So glad it was helpful ❤️❤️ Thank you for taking the time to leave comments and encouragement, Joanne! I so appreciate it!
Thanks a lot for a very helpful tutorial! I've been looking for useful landscape tutorial and found that piece. For a beginner like me that is just wonderful! Please post more of that!!
Oh wonderful! Hoping to have another up for you in the next few months (planning my maternity leave). Until then I have 2 other landscapes on my channel ❤️
Beautiful with a lot of finesse!
So glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Great tips! Darkening the top and sides of the sky and dabbing to create the illusion of clouds. Two simple things that can make a big difference in the finished piece!
I learned the little that I know about landscapes from the best 😉
I love your work, thank you for teaching soooo patiently.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh I’m so glad it was helpful! Thank you for taking the time to leave some encouragement
I loved your attitude and instruction on this -- I haven't done watercolors in years and years; your suggestions and easy way of instruction are so relaxing.
Oh that’s wonderful! So glad it was helpful-I’m hoping to have another tutorial out soon ❤️ (I’m on maternity leave at the moment)
Love the moodiness of this piece.
Thank you! A little out of my comfort zone but I love it 😍
Outstanding demonstration. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️❤️❤️
I’m new to watercolor so absolutely loved this video 🥰. Very simple and helpful, thank you!

Thank you so much, Karen! I really appreciate your support and friendship 😊 let me know if there’s anything you’re interested in seeing
Thanks so much you are marvellous! X
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
The RED! So effective. Thank you, this was just lovely
It’s a slight change with huge impact! I love doing that kind of thing with color 😍
Thank you so much. I've been doing WC for about 4 years. I love the way you teach. This is exactly what I wanted to know. I'm trying to be more loose with my paintings and wanted to do more landscapes. I learned so much. Thanks again.
Loose is harder to get a grip on-at least for me. I always want to tighten everything up OR I go too loose and it’s just bad overall, hah!
So glad you found this tutorial helpful! New landscape tutorial coming in about 2 weeks ❤️
well done. I like your style.
Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed it
I’ve been looking for good watercolour landscape tutorials for ages as I’ve started painting with watercolour a couple of months ago but most of the tutorials done explain enough why they’re doing thing the way they are and you explained it so well!!! Thankyou!
Oh good! I’m so glad it was helpful ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent tutorial, I'll now try it out myself 😄
Let me know how it goes! I’m prepping for another landscape tutorial and would be happy to address anything you need more help on ❤️
Thanks!
So glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Thank you .I will give this a try. Raleigh NC
Wonderful! I can’t wait to hear how it goes
I cleaned up all of my older subscriptions and now I can begin to see the GOOD STUFF lol... I was painting while listening along and I just love your work!
Hope I made the cut! Hahah it’s amazing how quickly your subscriptions can get kinda crazy-I need to go through mine too 🥴
So glad you enjoyed this tutorial!! ❤️❤️❤️
You are great artist 😊🤩
Oh thank you! That is very sweet of you
Wow, I love this tutorial. Your teaching style is very helpful. I am getting back into learning as I now have time. I don't have perylene green and need suggestions for a good substitute. I have tons of DS and other paints so may have suggested ones on hand. I am going to play today and see what I can do!
I’m not in the office, but off the top of my head I think Jadeite Genuine (DS) might be a good substitute (I’ll double check and report back). I think you’d have to add a little black and maybe a touch of blue but it should be a pretty quick mix. Hope that helps! And thank you for the sweet encouragement ❤️
Thanks Katrina! I am just started to paint landscapes and love the way you explain your technique.
You are so welcome! So glad you enjoyed the video 🥰 thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback!
this really learned my my grandson paint thank you a lot 😍
So glad you found it helpful and enjoyable!!
Love the colors. I will try to paint this. Just bought gouache and would like to learn how to use it with regular watercolor.
I would love to host a gouache tutorial! But I also needs a little more practice before I’m ready to teach on it 😅
I really enjoy your tutorials. I am brand new to watercolor painting, and I’ve only done two paintings so far. The first one I did was from one of your tutorials, and I’m looking forward to trying this one as my third painting. I used to do oil painting for a short while, so this is definitely an adjustment from that, but your step-by-step explanations are very helpful. You also have a tone and demeanor that makes me feel like I am painting along with a friend 😊
Oh thank you! I’m so glad you have enjoyed the tutorials and that my voice isn’t annoying to you! Hah
My painting journey originally started in oils and it definitely takes a little while to adjust to a transparent medium! You’ll get it!
really nice
Thank you!! So glad you liked it 🥰🥰🥰
You're just wonderful and straight to the points which I was trying to learn! U earned a sub and a follower
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the feedback ❤️
Looks like the cover of a great album! Black Crowes ’Before the Frost… Until the Freeze.’
Oh, I’ll have to check it out 😊
I just wanted to say thank you for this tutorial! I'm new to watercolors and this is just the perfect skill building exercise. I wonder sometime if you do more tutorials in the future or if you have done a painting like this with the addition of perhaps a stream running in along those mountains with a band / ribbon of morning fog running & following above the stream. I would just love to learn how to do that. I have tried and seem only to make a mess! Thank you and have a Merry Christmas & a Politically Correct Holiday of your choosing!
I have not painted many landscape tutorials, but I will practice a little more and see if I can fulfill your request for the morning fog-I have a few ideas that might work ☺️
Merry Christmas!
@@katrinacrouch How kind of you to take the time to reply to my post! I was looking for a way to donate to your channel and can't seem to find it. If you could advise me how to do that I would love to make a donation to support your work. I can't afford memberships, so I am most grateful and thank you so very much!
Oh that is very kind of you! I don’t offer any memberships or donation services (I don’t even know how to do that, hah!)
But if you watch the ads before and after my videos, I make a small commission from them (some are so long-feel free to skip those, hah)
Fun ❤🎉
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for leaving a comment ❤️ it really encourages me
Really nice I subscribed
Thank you so much, glad to have you here ❤️
very beautiful painting,I i like youer painting
Thank you so much-glad you enjoyed it
This is the second watercolor piece I’ve completed. You made everything seem simple and easy to master. I’m so happy with how mine turned out. Thank you!
Oh I’m so glad!! And thank you for letting me know-I was wondering if I needed to speed up a little more so people would feel more like watching. Like, skipping more of the trees instead of painting so many on camera, hah! Or skipping the foreground part
Thanks Katrina
So glad you enjoyed it!
wow
Hopefully that’s a good wow 😅
Would Payne’s blue grey work for the sky?
Thank you for listing your colors and materials!
Give it a try! I don’t currently have that in my collection so I can’t give you a more educated response, unfortunately. But my favorite colors for sky (and otherwise) were discovered through trying them out! ❤️
Oh this is very nice. I have a watercolor set for quite some time, but didn’t had the courage to use it. I recently got a beautiful silver photo frame from the thriftstore, and I saw this landscape and I think it would really fit in there, so I want to give it a try with your tutorial. What can go wrong, right? Thanks for sharing!
Oh fun! That sounds like the perfect excuse to get the watercolors out! I’m excited to see/hear how it goes for you
Loved your tutorial. Am new to watercolor and your explanations regarding how much or less pigment was something I needed to hear. I tend to make things too watery. What paper were you using?
I’m so glad it was helpful!! I don’t share the paper because I don’t like it and I don’t like to talk down brands that tend to be more of a personal preference thing.
My favorite papers are Strathmore 300, Arches and Stonehenge (current fav)
Best landscape tutorial I have seen.Thank you for your time!
Oh wow, thank you so much For your sweet words-you’ve really encouraged me!
This is wonderful! Thank you for making these videos; they’re very helpful! How do you keep the paper you’re using in this video so flat? Thank you!
This paper is on a block, so it’s held onto the pad by glue on the sides. You can also use painters tape or artist tape to hold it down on every side. I use the taping technique in this video if you want a visual example: m.ruclips.net/video/JbHTxJxD5ws/видео.html
@@katrinacrouch Oh ok. Thank you. I’ve never seen smaller block watercolor paper. Could you say what brand it is!
Welcome! Nice to meet you, I'm sokwon kim, and I think that your picture is beautiful.
Hello, Sokwon Kim! So glad to have you here. Hope you enjoyed the tutorial!
Thank you i am having problems with backgrounds my children told me i am getting better. Thank you for your videos❤
So glad it was helpful! It is definitely tricky to paint a landscape in watercolor-keep it up ❤️ I’m sure your children are proud of you
Wonderful painting, thank you so much 😍 I wanted to try it a lot, but I am only a beginner and have only the basic 12 colors set. Could I make them more mute somehow? Thank you in advance
Yes! Just mix the compliments in (blue with orange, green with red, yellow with purple) or a tiny touch of black to desaturate (“mute”) the colors. Practice a little on a scrap piece of paper and you’ll have a good palette to work with in no-time!
Correction: Your yellow, red and blue should actually be very close to mine. The green is more likely to need some extra attention by adding a little bit of blue and black in there
dabbled in watercolours, but nothing really- i did this with a cheap watercolour notepad and an ancient kids's watercolour set, and I actually love it already!
Oh good!! I have always used pretty “cheap” supplies until recently-you can learn a lot even with children’s art and upgrade when your ready!
Hi! I am new to watercoloring. You talk about using transparent yellow. I'm using White Nights Watercolor starting out. I feel that my yellow has "white" in it, does that sound right? I feel like it actually lightens the color and add yellow when I mix colors. Can you explain that, what should I actually be using?
It sounds like you have more of an opaque yellow. I’m not familiar with the White Nights palette you’re talking about, but I will do some research here in a moment. The yellow that I use is very light but pigmented. I also have used Lemon Yellow by Windsor and Newton, which is a very similar color
How lovely but where did you get your palette?
Amazon! It’s linked in the description but here it is again ☺️ ruclips.net/user/redirect?event=video_description&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbGVTZTVhSW1WRWFIeEFJeEZnLUZvcnVEQnlzUXxBQ3Jtc0tsWDl2UG5OdVhNdmk3ZURnemtRTU1mUDhGaFNyUUtqbnVsbkpVQzZ0TVR0cFJTUWI3RWJVdHhyZXFBajdyZmdVNl83NC1rNjBiTzJPMlhHZGhKcWFmeV9rc0Y5SXJuVGY0dHptTWFZM1JSY3JKSDFHWQ&q=https%3A%2F%2Famzn.to%2F3WmX7ds&v=3fakTpwr1Xw
Thank you so much! great tutorial!
So glad you enjoyed it!! 🥰🥰🥰
Very nice! thank you for this easy tutorial!
So glad you found it helpful! 🥰
come on lets start
Start what?
Beautiful! What size paper are you using? Thank you!
This is an 5.8x8.3 in watercolor block
This is one of the best tutorials I've seen I'm just starting to paint again but mine looks like a disaster but I'll get there some day i hope thank you for this lovely tutorial
Oh, that is so kind of you!! Watercolor definitely takes some getting used to-don’t get discouraged! Even this painting was after a failed painting because the paper is new to me and behaved in a way I didn’t expect. You’ll get it! I’m rooting for you, Athena ❤️
Does it only work on watercolour paper? I used regular paper and it started to rip.
Yes! Regular paper isn’t designed to get wet. Watercolor paper is made of cotton (the good stuff), which can handle the water
Ok thank you!
I was supposed to retire a few weeks ago and so naturally I bought a bag of watercolor painting paraphernalia. Today, first day, I tried to work on your painting and when a finished .. I'm not so sure. I started with the sky and everything but at the moment it looks less of a landscape and more like Julius Cesar biting a NY taxi driver while an interested giraffe looks at the incident.
The other thing is that my brush somehow lifts the paint off the paper revealing the white paper again. Sure I'm not ready this time around.
That is hilarious! Sounds like a winner for the modern art museum 😉
Fear not-all maiden voyages experience mishap, watercolor included! I encourage you to try again (this or another tutorial) and I’m confident that you will improve with each attempt
which sketchbook you use and which watercolor paints?
Everything is listed and linked in the description ❤️
I’m working on a journal that uses recycled paper. I love the dreaminess of watercolor but I don’t want it to soak through to other pages. Any advice?
Many companies sell watercolor “grounds”, which theoretically help protect paper, though I haven’t tried it myself and heard of a bad experience that a friend had. But again, I haven’t tested it myself!
You can use a piece of watercolor paper as a barrier between the page you’re painting and the page underneath. Start with a small test area to see how the paper responds and try to keep it as dry in your painting technique as possible.
I will endeavor to use the pigments for which I paid so much.
Good luck! I’m sure it will be great, though it will likely take a few tries to get the hang of it ❤️
Ever try a knead-able eraser?
Yes! I use one almost daily 😊
That was a cryzy thirsty paper.
I know! Definitely not my favorite but we made it work. One of the nice things about watercolor is the ability to adjust as needed ❤️
Beautiful and accessible
So glad you like it! I hope you enjoy trying out some of these techniques
Struggling to see your lines. Maybe do them much darker for a tutorial! It might look odd to you but its necessary for visually challenged students. I really want to do this but...
I’ll keep that in mind ❤️ thank you for the feedback
give some more tutorials
There are more landscapes on my channel ❤️

❤️
We have dif def of beginner
Give it a try! I think you would be surprised. While the result doesn’t look beginner, the techniques are fairly simple! I’ve had dozens of beginner painters send me their versions of this painting and they all look great ❤️
Can someone summarize this video for me so I can turn in my art assignment
Watercolor paint applied to cold press watercolor paper using a round paint brush. Repeat until landscape appears 👍🏼
Dito
Not entirely sure your context but hope you enjoyed the video!
This tutorial is great, I like the way you explain what you're doing since most watercolor landscape tutorials are too complicated to follow along!
Oh wonderful! I’m so glad it was helpful-I agree that I’ve struggled to follow landscape tutorials in the past (which is maybe why I am not very proficient, hah)
Cannot see your pencil lines at all😞
So sorry! Sometimes the quality does not stream high enough on YT. In more recent videos I’ve added graphic outlines to help ❤️
@@katrinacrouch I realize it is an old video….I am a real newbie to watercolor and kind of struggling so I need all the cues I can get! I will look for the graphic outlines…TY
I hope new w.c. students will notice amazon is not the best source of information, lol. If they click the link (in the intro above), amazon will tell them the W. & N. paint named "TRANSPARENT Yellow," is rated as "OPAQUE." It's not. It is absolutely transparent, lol. Amazon will also tell them it is made with the pigment PY 216. Nope, wrong again, lol. It's actually PY150.
Very true… Amazon descriptions are not always accurate. Best to do research outside of Amazon and then return to purchase if that is the desired route
Great video! Sub'd
So glad you enjoyed it!
Little bit frustrating to paints like you have, just for you to change your mind and take it off...so I take my bit off etc. More of a paint with me than an actual tutorial.
I suppose I could edit those parts out, but many people have mentioned that seeing/hearing my thought process and reasoning helps them to grow. My goal is more to teach you how to paint on your own than to make a series of painting minions that can’t paint without instruction, if that makes sense. But I appreciate your input and will definitely take it into consideration for future tutorials
Your tutorials are good but I think I’m not that good at water painting 🥲🤌🏻😩I did this and yeah…it’s not the same at all…kinda
You would be surprised how many times I have to make a painting over, even as a more advanced watercolorist! Don’t be afraid to try again-I think you’ll have more success as you learn your paper (and don’t repeat the steps that I have to do you paint doesn’t fade like mine does with this paper)
@@katrinacrouch thanks! I love painting and drawing since I was like 5 or something and I’m not that bad but it’s just that I can draw/paint some things better than other stuffs. I like water painting because it looks beautiful but it’s also difficult because it’s for example not the same as oil painting 🥲😅
