I'm a cognitive behavior therapist and I can confirm not just you, it is science that worrying increases worrying. The worrying behavior gets reinforced by the feeling of "doing something about it", even it's only in our heads. So it gives a feeling of being in control when you don't actually accept the uncertainty. It is like giving a treat to a dog, a very simple behavior pattern. BUT worrying is actually very difficult to be conscious about and difficult to stop, just like any reinforced behavior, as it might have been going on uninterrupted for years, decades even. After stopping worrying you might feel a little empty or like you "forgot something". Anxiety may also go up for a while or it may be more physical, experienced through the body. But these things will pass. Good advice, great video 😊

Worrying abt things u can't control is futile. It takes up time, and energy. My advice that works for me is, if u have a problem think, is the outcome something I can change or do something abt. Then look at it from an outsider point of view and think right how can I solve this. Always prepare with plan A, if fails have plan B etc then it will be sorted. But worrying isn't productive it just stops u fixing the problem & worrying abt what others do, ie friends and family problems is futile because u can offer advice but they might reject it so, give advice then leave it to them. Stop taking on other people's baggage of troubles. I learned this trying to help others & worrying about them when they didn't care abt u. Think logically abt every problem & u will overcome them. X

When I'm afraid or nervous or anxious. I read psalm 91 and really focus on exactly what each verse promises. And I immediately feel better because I know those promises come from God and he never lies. So Psalm 91 has been a huge blessing to me for several years. And I read it every single night and have full confidence that he will take care of me.

Here in the USA, we take productivity to equal your worth as a human. As I struggle with chronic illness, I’m “not productive” in any way. A shower is a day long event and then it’s back to bed. Getting my HSP head wrapped around the truth that I’m worthwhile simply because I am alive is very counterintuitive. Your lovely videos align with many biblical beliefs and long term therapy that joy comes in those small spaces, like sitting in a sunny window, a surprise text from a friend, feeling the wind on my face, a cup of tea etc. Seeing your beautiful face and hearing you is truly a great joy in my life! Be well dear Vera. You inspire and bring such healing to the weary heart ❤️‍🩹 ❤

Agreed! I to am in the US and the productivity mindset and “boot straps” beliefs are so detrimental to us who live with chronic illness, or as I sometimes say “enjoy chronic illness.” It makes me slow down and prioritize what I value most. 🐝 bee well 😊

It was a few years ago that a therapist first told me I have value simply for being a human living on this planet, and it was like she was speaking a foreign language at first. I was raised by truly horrible people who frequently told me they’d immediately kick me out of their house if I didn’t bring in money once I finished school. I really feel for everyone who’s still living under the nasty false belief that they only have value if they are productive

I totally understand. Watching and helping parents and an adult child after surgeries, car wreck, health issues, and as I age with health issues, simple things like bathing, toileting, dressing, cooking and eating can take so much time and energy that it's all you can do in a day. Going to a Dr. appointment or shopping can leave you without energy for a couple days. Sometimes I wonder what's the point. I just have to trust that God has a plan. You're not the only one going through this. We all matter!

    • @louisehorsfall9400
      @louisehorsfall9400 6 месяцев назад +1

Spot on. Somehow that gets right into our psyche but even when we realise it, it's so hard to change that self belief. It takes work but you can make progress. I used to be in a similar position but when I recovered I did not stop trying to somehow make up for the lost years. The mindset was stuck and I'm still working on it.

Self care changes with your season of life. When I had tiny kids, just watching tv with them was self care. As I got older, it was spending time on fitness. Now in my 60s it's focusing on my business and having my day's schedule totally under my control.

The biggest help I have with my anxiety is by remembering my mantra…. “Feelings aren’t facts.” it doesn’t always work but it helps . I also like to remember “act as if.” I have tremendous anxiety about my daughters, safety and health, and I try to remind myself to continually to act as if everything is fine and it probably will be.

Hi Vera, What has helped me to stop overthinking and worrying about a situation is I've recently started telling myself, "I'm going to do an experiment! Let's see what will happen if I don't worry about it. Let's see what happens!" And each time nothing happens! And then I see that I haven't wasted my time and emotions and nervous energy turning the situation into a big problem and I avoid a big tension headache as well! Have a good week! Thanks for another meangful vlog. ❤ Sue

Thank you. I embraced my fear this morning and asked for more time at work today. I love your channel. I've been hiding behind overspending to avoid understanding I don't earn enough money to cover basic things like the dentist. I am getting better at limiting my spending and paying my debts first. Just accepting this is where I am at without distress is a great start. My eating habits and home stability is much better than it's been in years now. I should be clear of immediate debt by my birthday and then I can look at booking a teeth clean. I have no family to talk with and next to 0 friends so thanks You Tube and channelers for providing some kind of environment where I can share my own experience and witness others too. Thanks again Simple Happy Zen!

Great video as usual Vera!! As a Christian, I have developed the habit of "casting my care" to God in prayer. Then after doing so, I make sure I replace that care with something positive or a scripture I have memorized or read in the Bible, that is relevant to the situation. I can't say I get this right every time, but I am trying to make it a habit, especially when I wake up in the morning, I make sure I either tune into a Bible study teaching while I am having breakfast or read a devotion. Well, that's my two cents about worry and anxiety. Thanks for sharing all these tips on mental self-care. Be blessed!🙂

First one is SO relatable. I’ve bern working on undoing this mindset - I really don’t need to track how many books I read in a year or how much I meditated this week. The point is, do I feel good after? Not being such an overachiever has been key for my recovery (ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia).

So true that we're taught that self-care should be in service of productivity. That is a mindset shift I've been tackling lately. I would even venture to say that it should be the other way around. The best kind of productivity is one that grows and hones our skills and talents, which are aspects of self-care.

Vera, I really identify with the mindset that it does not help to worry. So unless there is a real reason, I don´t, and even if there is, I don´t. I do what I can and trust that others will help, like doctors for example. I started thinking like that when I was taking exams. Worrying doesn´t help, on the contrary. I studied as much as I could and then just did my exams as calmly as possible. That always worked, same with the dentist. I´m not scared any more, even if he has to do something unpleasant, I trust in his expertise and being as gentle as possible. It makes life so much easier. Thanks as always for a wonderful video. You are doing such a great work encouraging people, bringing sunshine and joy into our lives. I hope you never stop being part of our lives.

As a worrier too that constantly has to work at not allowing myself to worry about things until something goes wrong, I can tell you that even when things do go wrong, I have to remind myself to stop worrying even then because the fix always seems to end up being much less serious, much easier, and/or much less expensive than I anticipated.

This came with good timing for me, because recently I decided that I need to make a big mindset shift. Three activities that have helped me so far are:
    1. Have an image in my head of what it’s gonna be like when I’m ”done”, and that’s what I meditate on daily while on walks or whenever I have the mental space/time for it.
    2. Make a vision board that I put on my wall, acting as a reminder of why I’m doing this and how I’m gonna get there.
    3. Journaling about my mindshift journey in the mornings. This makes it easy for me to look back and see progress.
It’s a lot of work but also a fun process. Especially since it gets easier with practice, just like you said.

i have learnt over the years that keeping thankful has helped me more than any positive mindest, it might not have changes my circumstances but its helped me be grateful and that stops alot of feeling sorry for myself or made me realise that there is always some good, even in the most painful times of my life. I was told by several people this year to start looking after myself, and i am getting there with setting some healthy boundaries, worry and anxiety is still hard for me I had a traumatic situation last year and still dealing with the shock only God will heal that for sure. Just love your channel Vera so grounded and fun and lots of love and peace, thank you for sharing with us.

Great video, Vera! Thank you. And your hair looks especially beautiful - very fluffy and wavy. I read this recently and thought you might like it. Self-love has four components - each one builds on the previous. Self-acceptance, self-forgiveness, self-confidence, and self-care. A good mantra to help move into more self-love is: I accept myself unconditionally exactly as I am. I forgive myself for everything that I am not. I grant myself unlimited confiodence to achieve all my hopes and dreams. I promise to take care of myself along the way. I love your videos - thank you for sharing!

These are such sensible and inspirational thoughts.
I have become very interested in how the body works, right down to cellular and mitochondrial function, etc., And as I have delved into this area, I have found that I am in awe of what our bodies do on a moment-to-moment basis! We are truly miracles, each one of us, in that regard. And we are here because our ancestors persevered, worked hard, we’re brave, and all of that included all the human foibles, And yet, here we are! When it comes to “body image,”, I like to bear this in mind. As you said, it really should be about gratitude. - and, I think, awe. It seems impossible for me now not to think of life itself as being truly awesome (even with all of its many inherent struggles, pain, and difficulties on occasion).

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  7 месяцев назад +1

Looking your best doesn't have to involve uncomfortable polyester work or event clothes which may not even be most flattering to you or wearing a face of full coverage all out make up. You absolutely can fix up in a cozy, comfy, more natural leaning way.

I do sit in an infrared sauna every other day for self care. I’ve been doing this for a year now and it helps. Lately I have been feeling like I need praise for all the hard work I’m doing at my job. Things are changing and making things more difficult, and these are a lot of changes which is making it more difficult. I know change is good but this is a little too much. I also have a personal issue I have to deal with now and have been doing it for two years now and that on top of work makes things stressful! I know I’m doing my best and I don’t need the praise but it’s hard to change that mindset. I need to get back into meditation and doing some exercises to feel better and make things more manageable but it is hard to reset myself. I’m working on it and now hope 2025 will bring in a more balanced life.

I am so glad you addressed the dental care stress. I did exactly what you described, did not go to the dentist for periodic cleaning & check up. I almost lost hope & willing to accept the worst. Slowly after listening to many podcasts & motivational insights I convinced myself what is the worst thing that can happen & made the decision to go. I was a wreck walking in the clinic. Thank god the hygienist was kind & I told her how scared I was. she assured me that she will stop if I needed to breathe. That gave me the confidence, now I look forward to go to the dentist. It is a few years now, my dental health has improved beyond my belief & is getting better. Only take appointment with the kindhearted hygienist.
    Thank you Vera. ❤

thanks Vera for another wonderful video with some great reminders. as usual, I identify and relate to so much of what you talk about. Re the worry habit. it has been such a lifetime if that for me too. I know it's my ego trying to give me a false sense of control. I am also practising letting go and trusting that all is in order, and remembering that excess worry doesn't help us and really does drain the energy as you said . When I find myself worrying, I try say something positive to myself - eg All is well/ you have what you need etc and not beat myself up, and purposefully bring myself back to the present moment. thanks again, I love your videos and look forward to them!

Worrying about my health got such a power over me over the last year that there is almost no day I don't think I might develop cancer any time soon, or loose my hair or teeth etc. And there is actually no fact that could prove my worrying is justified! I'm also super scared of dentists and ultimately found a great solution - sedation dentistry. Now I'm working on restoring my dental and gum health. Also last year, when I became 35 yo, I did my first integral medical check up and it showed good results. I'm also trying to be active and keep my weight stable, take vitamins and enjoy some downtime each day. I like what you said about worrying - "I will not worry until something really feels wrong" That will be my mantra now. Thank you so much for your videos, I feel so related to you in many ways (even the fear of spiders). :) I would like to see more welness and health tips from you in future. Greetings from Mexico!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment and sharing your thoughts Natalia. I can definitely relate to what you shared, including the fears for losing your hair and teeth and stuff. I learned that these particular fears are about control. So I try to practice letting go when I can :) We can only do our best to take good care of our body, and then we can just have faith that things will work out :) Take good care, wishing you a wonderful week!

I definitely make my downtime productive. Like I can't do anything just for the sake of enjoying it. If I'm doing craft, I'm making a gift then it becomes a burden as it is something I haven't finished and feel guilty about. I tend to only justify downtime because it increases my productivity later. Even then, single tasking is extremely hard. It's a fight with my mind. I feel tense when I try to relax and more relaxed when I'm doing something. Sitting with the discomfort of doing less, is something I need to 'work on' but I've just turned it into another task!!

Oh goodness, this is EXACTLY me. Now I know there are at least 2 of us in the fight, which in itself is another added task! Awful, isn't it? I have no idea how to break the cycle at this point. TY for your comment. You definitely spoke to me . Hugs Kate 😊

@@madhattersoriginal6258 I think awareness is a good first step. Then for me, practicing sitting with the discomfort of doing less. Recognising that just because I feel stressed doesn't mean I should stop! Like when someone took me to a spa and I was drumming my fingers....what next, how long do I have to sit here?!!

I can totally empathize with you completely!
I have managed to decrease the required time-span for taking a shower to an hour and a half now but for many years I have been basically been where you are now.
An huge part of the process has actually really been to
accept who I am and step by step(many many baby-steps)
    I started to let go.
-And yes, you are worthy just because you are here, even without doing anything productive! Think about it this way: the thought that you have to function in order to
be someone is a product of the human mind, right?
There's a much higher intelligence out there, though
    and it's unlimited and doesn't
make mistakes. The fact that you are alive can neither be a mistake nor a coincidence by the higher power.
    How could human intelligence
ever question your worthiness, since you have divinity within
yourself?? - just let that sink for a moment - and there's definitely nothing to be washed off your skin, you know...
Lots of love and best wishes
    from a friend 🙏❤️

Listening to you always calms my mind :D. That is one of my tricks for when I'm anxious or overwhelmed ;). You have such a beautiful aura and a calming voice.
I too worry immensly about my health. For 5 years I have been passed over from one doctor to the other because there are some strange markers in my blood and I am always in pain and fatigued. But nobody ever found anything conclusive. Last year I stopped seeing any kind of fancy doctor and it was the best I could do. Now I'm not constantly thinking about the gruesome diseases I may have or haven't. I still see my regular doctor and make a blood test every half year to not overlock something. But still I struggle to appreaciate my body. Though I am very much better than the last 10 years, I'm still in mild pain, I'm not strong or enduring and am easily fatigued. I want to treat my body as a friend, but sometimes it is still my enemy ^^.
    Many greetings from Germany :D!

Such profound wisdom in such a young little gem 💎 amazing and congratulations! ❤ I agree with everything you've stated in today's video and I've already drawned some inspiration from your past ones so thank you 🙏 What i personally find most difficult is to forgive myself for those mistakes that have seriously impacted my life and that seems so easy to avoid in hindsight, so I really need to befriend myself with that past version of myself who acted uncounsciosly, if you will, and accept that part as well, because it makes the whole of who I am. I'm not sure it makes sense what I've just said to others as well, but thank you for giving me the opportunity of self inquiry. Have a wonderful weekend 🌞 🌹

So much to say here Vera, body image is really hard because of what this current world thinks is normal, back in the 1800’s it was fashionable for women to be chubby, now you have to be a “barbie doll” , what you said is just be healthy with exercise, diet & mentallly healthy. Good advice on doing something fun after doing something scary that you are terrified doing, I also am terrified of the dentist, I almost rather have an operation 😬😳😱….I just might make an appointment and think of you when I’m sitting in the chair 🤔….love the chirping, you’re so cute Vera!!! About the 2nd mindset: Many people assume I don't exercise my body - both online and in person - because I never talk about it and I'm overweight. The reason I'm overweight is due to genetics but more importantly because I live with Rheumatoid Arthritis. That means I have chronic pain in pretty much all joints in my body since it's an autoimmune disorder, and also fatigue so it's a really hard task to exercise. But nevertheless, I have started to exercise! But I won't announce it on my RUclips channel or to my friends and family (although I'm writing a comment about it to prove my point here lol) because I don't see it as something the world needs to know. I was thinking about how often we do things to get praise. I often get comments on my channel about my weight. Still not going to explain though.
