    • @justschr
      @justschr 5 месяцев назад +10

      The issue is Disney are extremely risk adverse and are more about attracting investment and attention to the company than they are about actually following through and delivering. Which is why much of what they talk about is blue sky possibilities and less about concrete plans. It’s also why Disney has become less about originality and more about exploiting existing IP.

Currently, most visitors will come to FL for Disney and may spend a day over at Universal. Buy with the decline in quality from WDW and the opening of Epic Universe I predict people will begin coming for Universal and doing a day or two at Disney. With the exception of MK, and maybe Epcot, there just isn’t enough to do at the parks to justify a whole day at each. It will be interesting to see. Journey’s original chain-based track design was overly sensitive to loading disruptions, especially around the rotating Dreamfinder merge points. Modern trackless cars would fix that concern, make it ADA accessible, and “future proof” for new track/layout adjustments. Randomized pathing would add to repeat ride-ability as well, going along with Figment’s whimsy.

Hotizons and WOM had huge rider per hour capacities and the Health Pavilion housed multiple fantastic attractions. Adding to that, the gutting of Journey was just the icing on a cake. I truly believe the lack of new attractions is due to the layoffs at Imagineering in 2020. We all know it takes a few years to fully develop an idea B4 it's ready to be green lit/ announced. I think those layoffs created a void in new projects. The last 2 years it seems they been trying to develop the new ideas. I'm hopeful that D23 next year we will finally get at least some new announcements.

      Lack of attractions since 2020? 2020 - Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, 2021 - Ratatouille, 2022 - Guardians of the Galaxy, 2023 - Tron, Moana Journey of Water, 2024 - Epcot World Showcase, Tiana's Bayou Adventure ... Disney releases a new ride/experience every year, while Universal does nothing for 5 years. Disney even had their year long experiment with the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser.

    • @Millionaire2K
      @Millionaire2K 5 месяцев назад

      @@brooksfire9580 I'm looking ahead at the void created by the 2020 layoffs. I'm discussing upcoming attractions that are in the development phase or undergoing new construction. The attractions I mentioned were initially announced in 2017 with plans for all of them to be operational by 2021, coinciding with Disney's 50th anniversary celebration. However, the only exception was the revamp of Splash Mountain.
      Disney opted to postpone their opening to stagger new releases because they didn't have additional offerings ready. Typically, Disney engages in extensive behind-the-scenes work on new projects for several years before announcing and commencing construction. Construction usually takes around 2-3 years to complete.
      The layoffs in 2020 resulted in a halt in the commencement of any new construction projects since that time. Instead, the focus shifted to completing ongoing projects. Consequently, if Disney announces a new ride today, it won't be ready for several years due to this gap in new construction.
      Disney normally has a few things under construction so something is always new. The 2020 void has caused a lack of current projects under construction to be ready any time soon.
      Once the reskin of Splash is open in 24, nothing else will be under construction. Since new rides take a few years, I would not be shocked to hear about a few more reskins to get us past the void. A reskin can have a quicker build time to allow for somethin new in 25.
      Disney needs to break ground FAST to have any big new rides open by 26.

    Raise food prices and cut portion sizes!!!
    Critics are already commenting on the new statu of Walt to be placed in Epcot. It seems they went with a bland bench with Walt sitting there. The back of the bench is tall obscuring Walt a little bit from otherwise should have been a clear view from all sides. I bet it was the same imagineer, on drugs, who designed the same sundial logo in the center of the plaza area with the off center planters and white posts....
    No one can tell for sure what the hell Disney is thinking. Disney is a very complex business entity and we, has outsiders, do not have any idea what goes on behind the walls. Probably a lot of disputes and going back and forth. I find it interesting howe Sir Brayden for a split second was actually praising Bob Chapek.... WOW!!!!! I still say Chapek was a scape goat for Disney's troubles. All this crap did not start with him.....
    I am not a theme park designer by any means, but Disney really has to bring back the high level of maintenance and care it use to be known for.

    Sadly, even bringing Journey to Imagination back to the original configuration is going to cost Disney millions more than expected: If they go above the threshold for maintenance of legacy infrastructure as set by FL law, they will have to bring the building up to current code for amusement/public facilities. And Disney has absolutely NOT been doing incremental renovations of their facilities to keep them up to code. Heck, they haven't been doing routine maintenance just to keep things painted and functional. You can bet that bring up the safety systems alone, like fire suppression, air handling/exhaust for fumes, etc., is going to run into 7 figures. (not including the decimal points). Same situation applies to Carousel of Progress, which is a major reason why we only see things like new sweaters and minor housekeeping, and not (for instance) a replacement of the old pneudraulic/hydraulic animatronics with new, reliable electronic versions.
    I'm HOPING that Disney will spring for the extra bucks needed to do the job right and bring Journey back to its original glory. But the cynic in me expects that we'll get a new paint job, maybe power-washing the glass, and a range of "Festival Sweaters" for Figment to wear to fit in with whatever Epcot is hawking that season.

Hence why Apple languished after Steve Jobs first departure and was revitalized after his return. He brought back the entrepreneurial spirit. A lot of what we are seeing at WDW is the lack of vision from the entrepreneurial spirit of prior years.

    I’ve noticed they are not committing anything about Florida Theme Parks specifically when they talk about this $60B. Florida expansion is on hold until the Florida business and political environment are more favorable to Disney. My guess is that you’ll see the other non-Florida parks get something started first.

      @birbluv9595 Stop with the political garbage. Disney's problems have nothing to do with Desantis. Nobody stopped them from expanding their parks since Animal Kingdom was built twenty years ago. Taking five years or more to build a new attraction is unacceptable. The Disney Company has dumped ten billion dollars into Shanghai and Hong Kong when those parks make them almost nothing. This is about business, and Disney has done a poor job managing their business.

    Look at Polynesian. What used to be an original themed hotel. That new DVC is an eyesore. Complete joke. Stay at the four seasons, and then go to grand Floridian, the service is nowhere near the same. Polynesian is the same price and now you have to stare at an eyesore and can’t even walk the grand Floridian because of the ridiculous construction. That’s their solution to getting cheaper debt. Sell the timeshares and get instant cash. But they don’t realize is the theming is what separates them and transforms you when you go there and stay on property. Now that is all going away.

    Not only Epic universe but you also have the small regional park in Frisco Universal is making. Then you have the Matel park as well as American Heartland. Disney has sat to the side for to long investing in things like Shanghai while ignoring the ones in the states. They would be smart to build a place outside of place like San Antonio with the American Park they killed that would have gone in the NE.

    I worked for a division of Eastman Kodak in the 1980s and 1990s. When digital photography came along, management was desperately searching for something to replace the cash cow of film and developing. Competition from Fuji Film cut into their business before digital, so they were struggling for years. Other employers had donation-matching programs where, if an employee donated to a worthy nonprofit, the company would match the donation - but never Father Yellow. I was not at all surprised when their sponsorship of the Imagination Pavilion ended, and the Kodak photo-spot signs disappeared. It’s a shame.
