Yeah Cool Aunt Lilith was an inspiration
@@jibjibs9401 I loved the line "Let's boogie down to history town!" Not sure why, but I did love it.
Like the pile of human/witch sized bones in the cave, underneath a poster that kinda looks like a couple of book pages we’ve seen?
I can’t wait for episode 14 where amity’s dad (Alador) gets turned into a rat by Eda making a potion. Then Lilith and flora have set their differences aside when Alador rat steals an ancient artifact that was sent to the future due to one of the time pools in this episode. It all makes sense on the rewatch.
it concerns me that this has so many likes... it makes me think theres some weird twisted element of truth hidden in your words that will click for me later and I'm NERVOUS

@@itisALWAYSR.A. Yeah, definitely in a PG-13 way, not the R-rated way. That I'd rather not think about.
Cool Aunt Lilith is her best form. She looks so wonderfully happy when she's wearing those barnacles.
Also, I laughed my ass off when she realized she had tripped over her head.
You know, it's a pity that you skipped over Lilith's line "Am...I broken?" because that's actually super important when we later find out that she's a robot created by Belos to be a replacement for Eda but was never able to match her magical abilities. It's very cathartic when she mirrors that line with "I AM broken," but with a new sense of confidence and identity as Luz's cool aunt.
wtf u just spoiled my favourite plot twists :(
DUDE that was one of my favorite parts 😭😭 Sucks that the fandom kinda.. Took that to their advantage..
STOP SPOILING
The Collector is really one messed up little bugger. Turns out that he's the one that put everything in motion for Luz to enter the Boiling Isles, all so that he could add a human to his "collection", which basically means he's going to turn her into a curse that will possess other witches just like the Owl Beast.
Worst part is, it's not even part of any grand plan. He's just doing it for mean-spirited funsies like a total psycho!
SUS
Not only is Flora D'Esplora a reference to Dora the Explorer, that's not just a whip she has--her palisman is on the handle of the whip, and it's a little purple monkey that looks just like Dora's sidekick Boots.
I love how the show establishes immediately how time travel works in this universe with the gag of Lillith kicking her own head. Showing that you going back in time has already happened and everything you do is just fullfilling things as they are meant to happend. Wich tells us that Luz helping Belos isn't really Luz's fault
I believe that's called the Navikov Principle of time and space.
@@moviemaestro800 neat i never knew what it was called
Remember when terra told them the emperor looks forward to meeting luz again last episode? He meant in the past. The reason he let luz and lilith escape in the finale of season 1 is that he knew, that he will need the help of their future selfes in the past. Also I'm pretty sure he made lillith hunt down eda as revenge for the punch. Belos is a menace
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW this is what it meant!!!!!!!!!! RIIIIIIIGHTTTTTTT I get it now.... I get it.... wow that was FAR too intelligent for me
Exactly. It really does prove that everything is pre-determined. Even though people keep telling me I'm wrong without actually thinking about it. The fact that Belos said that, means he already knew who Luz was. He remembered her all along and knew she was going to go into the past, and help him become who he is in the present. That means Belos couldn't have, for example, killed Luz or Lilith at any point before this episode, because it would have created a paradox.
It also means that every choice, every action, and even every mistake, that led to this point - to Luz and Lilith going back in time and doing exactly what they did in the past - was guaranteed to happen. Because if even one thing went slightly off course, the past wouldn't have happened the way it did, and again, that would be a paradox (as we see the effect before the cause, and if Lilith and Luz don't do exactly what they did, that cause never happens).
When Luz came to the Demon Realm, Belos had already been Emperor for 50 years. Before Luz was even born. Before Lilith was born. Yet he had already met The Collector, with the help of Luz. He had memories of her before she was born. He also already had the broken nose Lilith gave him, before she was born. When they time travelled, they didn't create an alternate timeline. They didn't return to find the future changed, or altered at all. They returned exactly to the one true timeline, the way it already was when they left. Because what happened, always happened, and always will happen. This means they had no power to change the past. Any decision they made, would lead to the outcome that already happened, because it was already written. Ergo, they have no free will, and are just playing out events that were already set in stone. Destined to happen before they were even born.
A smaller demonstration of this, that proves the same thing on a smaller scale, is Lilith tripping over her own head. She tripped on her head before she even time-travelled to put her head there in the first place. Her head being there is the effect, time travelling is the cause. The effect happened before the cause. If, after tripping, she decided NOT to stick her head in that time pool, this would create a paradox, as she already tripped on her head but then never put her head there for herself to trip on. This proves she had no agency in making such a decision, and was fated to put her head there before she ever did. By applying these same principles, this means every single action, every single decision, and every single feeling or thought, that every character has ever had, throughout the entire show, was already destined to happen, and they had no say in it.
@@WeeLassReacts Yes its a whole closed time loop. Phillip gets trapped in the demon realm, meets Luz for his first time, learns the light glyph, gets what he's after, has his nose broken then fast forward to when he finds Lillith and takes her into his coven to control and torment her. As he say's when Luz meets him for her first time what happened to Eda was irrelevant till she showed up as she's the key to his success all those years ago. Fast forward through the adventures to when he has Tera deliver the message he's looking forward to meeting her and she goes back in time setting all the events in motion.

“So basically is um, what I’ve been thinking is um-AH FUCK, I can’t believe you’ve done this!”
-Philip when Lilith punched him
I love that Dell's nerve damage is so subtle that some miss it. Once I noticed it, I finally realized why Eda felt so guilty. I mean, if I clawed out my dad's eye I'd feel like the worst person on earth, but Dell can no longer carve palismen. In addition to a serious injury, he can no longer do the thing his family has been doing for who knows how long. Especially since he carved Owlbert with Eda, that would hit so much harder. It's heartbreaking. But he's still helping the re-growth of the forest so that more palismen can be made. He found a way, and I think if Eda had known that it would've lessened that burden, even if only a little bit.
I hope your nail gets better soon. I love the reunion between Eda and her dad. It's so wholesome and heartbreaking at the same time. "Let the past stay in the past, Witchlet." gets me everytime.
Honestly the use of the word "witchlet" is adorable!!!
And thank you! Its been about 2 weeks now and the nail is nearly grown enough for me to remove it without further bloodshed hahaha
@@WeeLassReacts That's good. Happy healing and merry Christmas.
and the little gentle tremble of his scarred hands whenever there's a close-up. He's *had* to let go of the past. And I think if Eda hadn't reconciled with the Owl Beast, she may have continued to run. Growth can be tender as well as dramatic.
I remember that scene like as if it were yesterday, and it was enjoyable. I also remember that someone once commented that while Dell losing his ability to carve palisman was tragic, but losing his own daughter was even more tragic.
The time pools led to some of my favorite fan comics. Luz looking into one seeing her and Amity's wedding, and season one Amity looking into a time pool and seeing Luz with some purple haired witch.

I love how this episode explains how it's time travel works without even saying anything. Lilith kicked her own head before she put her head in the pool, and the dead reveler had no helmet in the present before Luz took it from him in the past. Meaning everything they did in the past had already happened before they even did it. Genius writing
The theory of Philip being Belos was a BIG DEAL in the fandom before it was revealed in this episode.
It really was. I remember the wars between the two sides.

Not to flex but I had more or less figured out the big twists (belos being Philip, Hunter being a clone of belos' brother and flapjack belonging to/ knowing the brother as well) by like ep10 and after that it was just confirmation after confirmation, with hollow mind being the cherry on top. Super satisfying to be proven right.

I initially refused to believe it but I figured it out during the hiatus
Steve's back! Also, I like how Lilith's hair is starting to poof back out like when she was a kid.
First off, Flora Desplora is a play on the character Dora the Explorer...she's even made to look slightly like an adult version of her.
Second, you cut out the part where Lilith mention Snake-Horses; which causes Luz to go "SNORSES" with an adorable face.
Third, I find it wholesomely amusing how Luz calls Lilith her Aunt now; considering their past. This makes Eda her official surrogate mama and her parents the new grandparents
Also Flora's V.A. also plays Dora's mother.
even more of a reference, Flora's voice actress also voices a character on Dora (Mami, not sure who that is as I don't watch Dora, but it's an intersting fact)

It's such a shame when it's later revealed that because she used the titan's blood to look for time pools in this episode, Luz didn't have enough to make it home. She was forced to stay in the demon realm forever, her choice taken away from her by her own rash actions. It's not like it's easy to find more blood, the Titan's been dead for thousands of years. Yikes, -9C? It doesn't get nearly that cold where I live. It doesn't even really get to freezing here. That's what you get when you live in a humid subtropical climate!
The funny thing is, if you use the proper phrasing and tone, real spoilers can sound like they're obviously fake. And it is EXTREMELY funny to read the comments and see all the real stuff phrased EXACTLY like the fake stuff.
Cool Aunt Lilith! Cool Aunt Lilith is cool. Lilith's Palisman doesn't really have a name, but Dana did once accept "Mike Socks" as his name. He'd be named after some historical figure or something and it would be "Mike Socks" for short... Which is very fitting for Lilith. Also, I love how goofy Lilith's palisman looks. When he's on the staff, he looks regal, but the reality is that he's... not. Just like Lilith.
This episode is another reason for my previously-mentioned headcanon of the Titan favoring Luz and helping her learn the glyphs. Philip notes that it seems almost like something is trying to keep him from learning the glyphs, while Luz found all of them within the space of... Well, the exact timeframe isn't clear, but it's unlikely to be any more than six weeks. So, yeah, hence the idea that the Titan is helping Luz out. But that raises questions... Eda said that no one is chosen, that you have to choose yourself. If she's right, that seems to conflict with this whole thing with the Titan. It's interesting to think about.
Aaah but you’re forgetting about the WHOLE ISLAND just full of titan trappers like King, surely one of them knows a way to find more EVIL TITANS to take blood from.
I absolutely love what a goober Lilith's palisman becomes when off the staff.
Don't worry, you *WILL* know when the crikey-ing happens.
It's very clear when Crikey goes from 'It's getting annoying guys' to 'OH MY GOD'
When traversing the gallery of the psyche, be on guard for these hollow walls won't surrender their secrets willingly, but guilty thoughts tend to betray the will of the memories, search every surface and every edge to unravel the untold story hidden within.

“Are we gonna learn about the tower?”
Maybe if we had time for 20 more adventures…
I loved the absolute mayhem they got into when Luz discovered a rune pattern that let her clone herself. Amity barely managed to hold it together!
I'm still surprised they got away with how thirsty that one clone was.
Fun fact: if you go back to the previous episodes where we've seen Belos with his mask off, you will notice he has a very distinct shape to the bridge of his nose. This was actually a major reason why some people *didn't* believe the theory that he was Philip, because his profile didn't match the silhouette we could see in the journal sequences. But it turns out, his nose looks like that because Lilith broke it! I do wonder how Lilith will feel when she finds out she permanently scarred the guy she spent most of her life working for, before she was even born...
Its really unfortunate they couldn't have more episodes, cause its not at all hinted at, but Steve becomes very important!
- He's Steve Irwin reincarnated
- He's secretly friends with a titan
- He IS A TITAN (think about it we never seen his face yet)
- He says "Crikey!" at a plot relevant time
- He starts dating Flora Desplora to get information
- He starts dating cool aunt Lilith to get information
- He is brothers with Mattholomule (gus' bully)
- He rides a dope motorcycle
- He cries whenever he witness lesbian couples
- He regrets his life choices
- He manipulates Hooty
- He manipulates King
- He manipulates Luz
20:03 So if you go back and watch this scene closely, take a look at Philip’s bag. Inside there appears to be a palisman and a blue fang.
This dude not only murdered a guy, he took a souvenir!
There was this little extra comic/doodle that Dana put up once where it was when Lilith was still head of the Emperor's Coven, and she was saying how she'd found this great morning workout place and was showing off and there was Steve there like "All hail Lilith's biceps!" and it shows Belos overhearing this, and then going to Hunter and ordering him to tell Lilith that she needs to take his morning patrol (to which he responds that she call him "the Golden Brat" again), but anyway, the implication is that he remembered she would be the one that ends up punching him and breaking his nose and didn't want her to get buff, and I think that's hilarious.
AHHHHHH I physically recoiled when you mentioned what happened with the nail. Be careful, Mosco!
Also, Belos always had a broken nose, and now we know how he got that!
He was originally supposed to be voiced by Owen Wilson, who backed out of the project at the last minute. The nose is a visual nod to the original plan.
Three episodes to go before Stan Pines makes his cameo, arriving in Connecticut looking for his ex-wife, "Marilyn".
I love that you are the first reactor who watches the Owl House that picked up on the fact that it seems like someone is keeping the Glyphs from Phillip.
21:53 I mean, he was talking about sacrificing them again. I think at that point you could argue it was self defense.
Phillip being Belos and Eda controlling the beast are two of three predictions you've made that were right. I can't remember the third one right now, but you're a lot smarter than what you give yourself credit for
she also got the "impostor Luz" being a basilisk, which is something I hadn't seen anyone get until then
Luz saving Philip’s diary from red fang proves that Luz was always meant to go back in time, since it exists modern day
So I guess the cat's out of the bag. Philip is Belos... but his brother was actually The Titan.
It's only on screen for about a second, but when Luz is watching the journal entry right after the title card, you can see Luz and Lilith scratched out next to the Collector's door.
Roses are Red, Kings horns are Spikey, The best reaction Moscoe will have, is when she learns the meaning of Crikey!
"Was telling you guys to come up with fake spoilers a bad idea?" LOL YES IT WAS, YOU FOOL!!! 🤣
IM A TOOK
It was heartbreaking in the finale, when Idas dad sacrificed himself for her. Well, not just for her, he also wanted revenge on Bellos. He found the new Palisman-Tree-Forest, that dad was growing with the bat queen, and Bellos just shopped it all down for palismans to absorb. Anyway, seeing Ida wail, like you over cute, is something I never want to see again😭
There was this funny sketch Dana Terrace posted after this episode first came out where Belos overheard season 1 Lilith talking about taking boxing classes in the morning. He then proceeded to alter Lilith's work schedule so she could no longer take boxing classes. Gotta make sure she can't punch too well...
The code for this episode is 'As', leaving the message as 'Seething Seas and Puppet Strings, He No Longer Dreams of Kings. As-'
Due to time constraints because of the shortened third season, they needed every second to be able to tell the story they wanted to, which is why most of the second half of this season doesn't get full intros.
"some of yall are just shouting the word crikey at me" AHHHH I CANT BELIVE I FORGOT ABOUT CRIKEY AHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhh h hhh
The way lez finding glyphs felt like she was earning them, and Phillip feels like they were hidden from him speaks on both of their characters

"Crikey" was a tribute to an Australian animator who worked on the show. What scenes in particular? Stay tuned ;-)
Crikey literally means Christ Kill Me, but a lot of Aussies use it to show how shocked they are. Luz used it literally, but ironically called Belos Christ.
Really? Thought it had something to do with Crickets kr Crokey
13:09 that’s also a reference to Gravity Falls. Mabel: “and yes…I AM a witch”.
Fun fact: Flora D'esplora is played by the actress who plays Dora the Explorer's mom!
Also, starting this episode, Steve the Guard is played by Matt Chapman (creator of 2000's internet fixtures Homestar Runner and Strong Bad and someone you'll be hearing again in future episodes of Gravity Falls), taking over from Alex Hirsch who played him in his first appearance.
"Crikey" took a second for me to get. How could I have forgotten?
Those Grimwalkers are basically a pseudo body. Phillip knew he wouldn't live long to make it home so he needed a body that could.
So he made himself a body that can sustain him till he could get home, but it wasn't meant for human physiology as you see from how his arm morphs.
Man its crazy that Philip's secretly Luz's dad who's mastered the art of time travel to teach her the ways of the crab maiden
I also tried using my weak nerd arms to lift a frozen trash lid, plastic bin. Elbow-bashing it to shatter the ice was surprisingly effective.

Crikey is Phillips brother's name.
Also "he looks forward to meeting you" from last episode
Before this episode, my theory had been that Philip's Brother survived a presumed death and was stranded after Philip returned home through the portal. And then became the masked tyrant we're learning to fear.

My favourite part of season two is when it's revealed that amity is a time travelling robot sent back in time to kill Luc and take revenge for her father. It's a really great and complex emotional arc, very sad.
23:21 Fun fact, Dell’s palisman and Hunter’s are the same species of bird! They’re both Northern Cardinals, which are almost always red (the males anyway) but there is a rare genetic mutation that causes some of them to come out yellow instead.
So far this is the only instance we’ve seen of two palismans being the same species!

Now that Wee Lass has finished the series, I can finally comment this. I always found it strange that Belos let Lilith keep her palisman, since he was taking everyone’s. But in this episode he met Lilith and he knew that the only way he could progress is if she still had her palisman. So when he saw she joined the coven, he let her keep it.

As far as outstanding farts go, I can’t wait for you to meet King’s extended family. They’re all so excited to meet him! Unfortunately they’re also cannibals who send their children away and wait until they come back- if they come back before they hit a certain age, they’re killed and eaten in a big festival. I still can't believe they got away with showing a shrine made of the bones of King's dead siblings on-screen... This was supposed to be a kid's show!
@@jakeroo123 There’s so much that happens in the background that’s surprisingly dark!! It’s amazing, but then again the team looking to censor are probably watching the characters and what they’re saying/doing rather than the implications of what’s being shown in the background but left unsaid… Then again my favorite cartoon as a preteen/teen killed off like half of its cast on-screen and they got away with it because the characters were far enough away from “human”.
Imagine Lilith getting into the coven and Belos seeing her and being like "Wait a minute..."
I've been sayin' it this whole time guys. Belos is secretly Luz's mom as a teen sent forward in time to train her in the ways of witchcraft!
Also, I agree with you about the length of episodes. Just remember, other companies wanted Dana to work with 11 minute length episodes, more like shows like Steven Universe.
And now things get a little more dangerous for the Owl House crew! After all, up until now "Belos" has been content to sit back and watch them (keeping the House under observation but not going after them directly) all this time -- in large part because he remembers that Luz and Lilith would someday travel back in time and provide him with information and assistance he needed. So he couldn't just imprison (or actually execute) them before their time-travel shenanigans without the risk of some very personally unpleasant paradoxes cropping up! But now ... now they've done what Belos needs them to have done, it seems likely they no longer enjoy the protection of being needed for Belos' own past to play out the way it had to for him to get ... well ... whatever it is he got out of all of that! Once Belos figures out that the event he's been waiting for (the Time Pool incident) has finally happened, Belos can take the gloves off and actually act against them!
Belos is a scary villain for many reasons, this sort of long term planning and cleverness is one of them!
I moved from the uk to the Midwest of America a couple of years back, and we're currently experiencing a full winter blizzard with wind chill bringing the temperatures down to a possible -40 Celsius. I'm not taking the trash out because I don't want frostbite XD
Still awesome that Amity later uses the Time Pools to see Willow walking her down the aisle towards Luz.
She actually encountered them much earlier, back when her hair was still green. She saw Luz with a purple-haired witch.
I'm just going to say this now before I forget. We also have plastic bins in the USA. At least I do in utah.
if the intro is lilith punching philip I'm gonna laugh my ass off
called it lol
The fart, walk out of the room thing? That's called crop dusting. You're welcome.
It's a blizzard where I am, gonna be as low as -40 Fahrenheit here 🙃
Remember that stonesleeper lungs are listed in the grimwalker book !
Know I'm late to this, but hope your days are getting better! These videos really brighten my day. Happy holidays all!
Guy y’all gotta stop talking about the Crikey. She’s gonna realize that’s what Luz says once she figures out that Amity died in episode 22 of season 2 “home before hoes”
The show would never ever ever make 22 episodes in a season. 🤣
So I’m not sure if you got the Flora Desplora reference. In America one of the children’s shows that’s been going forever is “Dora the Explorer”. The character design is practically identical and her palesmen is even a purple monkey (Dora’s best friend is a purple monkey). Luz is of the exact age and demographic that would’ve grownup watching the show in its prime which is why Flora weirds her out
I'm sure she did, the show is extremely popular even outside of the US (like here in France where, fun fact, Dora teach us english instead of spanish)
OH I got it, I just.... didn't really have a reaction for it hahaha that show was... WAY beyond my years (I'm ancient, think the dinosaur era) so I have no feelings toward the show
For what it’s worth, in the US our bins are also big plastic wheelie deals, at least everywhere I’ve lived.
I love what a goofball Lily's palisman is off the staff, because it reminds me of her... so elegant and buttoned-up on the outside, but then when she starts to let loose and have some fun she's Groovy Nerd Auntie
The part just past 24 minutes is solid gold :) SO adorable!
