    First toughts that popped up in my head was regarding aero dynamics. Since the new ball have holes, air will pass through it and not around it. How does that affect the aero dynamic properties of the ball? Will it travel further when you throw it with the same amount of force as a regular ball? And will the holes affect the movement of the ball in the air? Or is the design of the holes such that they cancel the air flow out some how to mimic a traditional basket ball? A bit more technical insight would have been interesting to get hold of. Great video tho 🙂

    • @JimJam1069
      @JimJam1069 7 месяцев назад +2

      My guess would be that air will not pass through the holes, but that the holes will act similarly to dimples on golf balls. Dimples on golf balls small uniform pockets for air around the ball in a spinning motion which helps them to maintain straight line trajectory better and overall results in less resistance and more consistency in the path of travel. I would assume the effect won't make nearly the same level of difference as it does on a golf ball though considering a basketball is not travelling nor spinning nearly as fast

    there must be some difference in how it travels through air... The holes makes for air to pass through, probably reducing the turbulence behind and reducing drag... the holes may also act like dimples on a golfball... ?

    First reaction is they need to make the ball a bright color, like neon yellow or neon orange. That way it will be more visible when the matches are televised. If you make a black ball, the viewers are going to have a hard time seeing the ball on tv and will lose interest in basketball. Make the ball more visible and you will have a more enjoyable viewer experience. Think about why the tennis balls are bright yellow. Also, make the courts of a color that contrasts with the ball, the enhance visibility. This will also improve the experience for the public attending the games in person

    Is this a padid advertisement? You avoided talking about the obvious concerns and flaws.

    • @jjrrmm
      @jjrrmm 9 месяцев назад

      Correct. It looks like a paid commercial.
      1. Bouncing. Does it stay stable over the time? Or decreases when used? Any change on the bouncing characteristics, means "new balls" will be introduced every game or like in tennis, after some playing time that is shorter than the game.
      2. Universal usage. It is the opposite. The surface determines the bouncing. A "perfect" ball for a floating wood NBA court will bounce too much or not enough on the concrete court in the park. No adjustment possible. Let the ball from 1.80m and it has to bounce bounce between 1.20m and 1.40m on the first bouncing.
      3. Environmental friendly. Plastic. It is plastic, not a "recyclable powder". Leather is ecological. Plastic not. And if we need several balls per game or practice time. It will be a disaster. Recycling comes to a cost of energy. It is not free in terms of sustainability.
      And there will be many more. Just ignoring them is to do advertising of the product.

    This thing is utter bullshit. The bounce is not the same. The flying curve indoors is not the same. This video is clearly sponsored
    The only good thing is that this ball performs well outdoors, because it isnt so prone to wind conditions as regular balls. BUT outdoors the ball is bad because on what surface one plays outdoors. If you have some gravel on the ground, this ball will become unplayable in seconds because the gravel/split will stuck into the holes.. Also, how well can this material handle rough surfaces in general?
    I think this will be a catastrophe for Wilson if they really invested this much into 3d printing machinery..
