Are you mad? £30 for fish and a few chips? What a bloody con. 4 of us could have the same in Wetherspoons for £30
And you can’t get better. Bloody lovely……..They charge £16 for bloody burger in Ramsey’s in Woking 🤪
There's no comparison. I'm not slating wetherspoons. But you are comparing a fiat with a Ferrari.
@@TheMacMaster Normally I would agree but Ramsey Dish was NO Ferrari……just local chippy standard.
I think what I’m trying to say is the Snob value people put on it…….Like “The Ivy” etc. 😂👍👍👍
Actually in London £19.50 to have fish & chips with Wilkins tomato sauce & mayonnaise in one of Gordon's restaurants isn't bad at all especially with top notch quality & service, the beer was pricey but no more pricey than an Indian restaurant, you cannot compare with wetherspoons whatsoever, its all frozen, macs meal was fresh and top notch quality.
You didn't see the vid where fish and chips were £69 then I take it ?
@@martineleven8179 Nineteen pounds fifty for a six ounce piece of haddock and a few chips ,, " isn't bad at all " ,,, really ?? ,,, food and beverage prices in London are nothing short of outrageous ,, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I respect that ,,
I seen more chips on Prince Harry’s shoulders
😂
Slowly making my way through your videos, weirdly you’re the only food review person I watch usually its just competitive eaters i watch. You got me hook mr Macmaster ❤
That looked way better than Rick Stein's. Still a bit pricey for us midlanders hahaha.
I hope Gordon see's this and talks to the team who helped to create this, and gives them feed back. Nice to see your feedback and totally agree. People here have no concept about running a business and the costs and margins involved. They only look at beer from Asda and a take away from the local chippie
You are correct Sir, but most people live in the real world. That is why "they only look at beer from Asda and a take away from the local chippie".
Mate, an Aussie sitting here watching this in bloody lockdown & you have brought a smile to my face. I am so pleased that The Narrow is doing Gordon Ramsay proud. You want establishments to lift their game, serve good food and create a dining experience. Sounds like that's what you got right there. I've no idea if 30 quid is expensive or not for drinks, food & all things considered. Would I go there? 100% for sure. In fact I will be seeing my Pommie mate as soon as I can travel & I'll shout the bugger lunch at Narrow.
Good review. You showed the place wasn't stuck up or pretenious, wonderful service and excellent food together with those amazing views. They welcomed you in, the food didnt take too long to arrive and was it worth the wait or what! That fish and chips looked irresistible. Like others have mentioned, I think they could have given you a slightly larger portion of chips, about 5 more chips say would have done it. Other than that, based on what we could see, same as you, a definite 10/10. Based on your review I would definately go there if I was in the area. Cheers Mr MacMaster.
Where was Darren today? I missed his lovely presence. He has a lovely smile.
I've always wanted to visit a Gordon Ramsey restaurant in London, but i believed they were mainly French cuisine or extremely pricey. The price you paid for fish and chips was spot on and the location incredible. You've sold it to me. Next time I'm in London I'm visiting the Narrow
£6:50 for a pint, that's taking the piss, my pub here in Scotland just raised the price to £2:90 and I could get a sitdown fish/ chips over the road, £8:50, extortionate !! .
Sit down fish and chips here is £5.99 and pint £2.50, I'd never pay £29 for that 🤔
if you live your life all the time by pounds and pence, will be a very dull one. But then Scots are renowned for it.
Sit down fish'chips here 2 quid...all you can drink a fiver
BETTER FISH AND CHIPS UP IN LANCASHIRE AND CHEAPER WHAT A RIP OFF £29.00
London prices are super high
😴😴😴😴😴 The south has another 284 miles below London with a dozen fishing ports. London is overpriced for everyone except the metropolitan toffs with no idea of hard graft and value/quality for money ✌️🍻
The fish looked great, not enough chips but the price was ridiculous.
In the £29.33 was the optional service charge of £3.83. Plus the pint of beer £6.50. Also the hidden charge of the 'Kids Eat Free : All day, every day'. This charge is obviously spread among all the customers whether they have kids or not.
Looks incredible. A few more chips & mushy peas would of been nice but I understand it’s more up market and won’t get the portion size of a fish & chip shop. For London and a Gordon Ramsey restaurant the price wasn’t so bad
That looked stunning and worth every penny. Staff, view, quality food, worth every penny. Rick Stein get yourself down there.
Nice One Pal . Food Looked Great . I like me beer ,But what the beep beep is a "BIRRA MORETTI" LOL
You've heard I'm sure of pubs called the woolpack. There seems to be lot of restaurants called pull the wool over your eyes
When I go to London will be having a visit there. Loved the service and fish n chips (one of my favourite meals) looks perfect, my mouth was watering watching this. Gordon 100%, Macmaster 110%. Thanks Lee 😊
I know I watch too much MacMaster when I'm shouting at the TV "Do your thumbnail"!!!
Lol. 😂
😂👍✌️
They make it worse when they cover the tiny portion of chips with the fish. They may as well stick a sign on top saying 'Look, no chips!' The fish looked good but they're taking the pee with the kiddies' portion of chips for that price.
Lee, this has to be one of your best short informative video's , plus still enjoy your short video clip featuring Kurt Cobain episode you and Daniel encountered. You Tube Grammy's Award Winner's .. All The Best, Kev the TV Engineer .
To be fair, everyone saying where’s the chips, that is my perfect portion size as I cant eat too many chips. Looks beautiful.
I agree. The main focus should be the fish and that is what I want to eat most. Why pig out on chips and end up leaving some of the fish?
You need to get out more...
the chips are massive, thats why it doesn't look like a big portion.
@@Ground_Control01 An optical delusion, I fear...
That looked delish and right on the water front you're also paying for location aren't you. It's a choice to fo there so you already know you're gonna be paying a bit more. Looked good to me 🙂
I'm 8.26 in and I reckon you are going to give this one a ten I can tell you are really enjoying it, and everything looks really good from my perspective spot on! 👍✌️🙏
I am glad you enjoyed it. But you didn't get many chips. I have just discovered you're channel and you're videos are very enjoyable.
Loving the review, looks great. One question though where the f@ck was the lamb sauce!
Your headline drew me in (although I’ve watched many of your vids) and I was hoping it WASN’T crap so YAY! i would eat there and of course you’re paying a) London prices and b) to eat at a GR restaurant. I’d pay that, especially if you’re getting outstanding food, impeccable service and a stunning location. That place is now on my ‘to do’ list 😀
Not sure what was greener? They peas or the water in that canel.
Another good vlog mate. 👍👍👍👍
Man these vids make me homesick..living in the U.S. now I miss good fish n chips and a full English I go down a rabbit hole watching all these food review vids, Keep it up!
Those Chips look perfect but arghhhhh Skin on the Haddock! Expensive though!
Nothing wrong with skin on the haddock. Any chippy north of Nottingham cooks it that way.
Hi Lee&Martin, in the world? Come on,that's stronging it a tadge😂 I'll give you the cod, looked great, the batter sounded so crunchy. Mushy peas, nah, didn't fancy them at all😢.The fried potatoes, and that's what they were.No way to call them CHIPS, sorry but they ain't 😢😢 All in all I'll give 7.5. Apart from the potatoes mark's were lost on ✌ fronts. The missing bread&butter and the cup of tea. But why,why serve them in bowls, no drift wood about, roof slates? Ye God's the New York Times was available 😂😂 Mind you I now fancy a plate of fish&chips &at 1.41 am I'm out of luck😢. Thanks for your hard graft bringing us such joyful vlogs. Cheers ❤😊
😢Surprised you made no mention of the service charge on the final bill. I know it says optional but most people are simply going to pay it and maybe add a bit more in with a tip. I know you said the service was impeccable but it’s for the customer to decide if that service warrants a gratuity. Myself I would pay £19.99 for fish and chips in an establishment like that. Pub restaurants near me in Lancashire aren’t that far behind that now. But £6.50 for a pint is ridiculous. But thats London prices and no doubt we will be expected to be paying the same in the rest of the country before long. I enjoy the channel. The clips are very informative.
Although I can see why people may think it's expensive, the overall dining experience looked very good quality with attentive service to match the food. A point off for having seating backing straight into the door just to be picky but looks like a nice treat if in the area. Enjoyed your video.
If you are still interested in scouring London for Fish & Chips please visit The Summerhouse on the canals near Maida Vale. When I went it was top draw. Thx
Best wishes to you Lee, hopefully it’s not a heart attack but you need to rest and eat healthy! Looking forward to more travel vlogs when your 100%
Those fish and chips looked absolutely lovely, glad you enjoyed it Lee 😃👍
I think the Cottage in Blackpool you reviewed is a winner still.
£30 for fish and chips! No way pedro!
Fish was fresh? It had eaten most of the chips😂😂😂😂😂👍🐜😷
You could buy my local chippy business for a little bit over £29 🤣
Now that’s quality, for a change. Recommend that to Darren, he likes good restaurants.
Loving the London vlogs keep them coming Lee, I prefer these ones to Tenerife, London never disappoints, so much to see and explore
I agree
only thing i could pick on is that canopy on the outside looks more warn out than grandmas knickers. has holes and patches and looks like a bit of black mold thrown in as well
You r right bet they smelt better than fish class
Wtf , fish looks good ,. But only few chips no curry sauce yuk,
Good video 👍
How on Earth did they park those boats on a lawn?! 😂
Considering the name of the owner and the great service, I don't think the price was to high for what looked like a delicious meal. I would have liked more chips and for the skin to be taken off the fish, but that fish was the best I've seen in a long time, not a bit like the skinny specimens you seem to get in other places. Also considering the name of the owner, I would not expect anything less than a 10. Spot on vid :)
Plating and mounting the haddock atop of the chips is an absolute no-no! The heat generated coming off the underside of the battered filet of haddock has nowhere to go. It will condense into moisture in a nanosecond and ruin the crispiness of the chips. Gordon evidently flunked physics at school.
I agree
Great Point!
agree... the place I go to wraps them separate...
Lovely review. Great to see that a celebrity chef can see do the business. Will certainly visit next time I am in London. Spot on the money my friend
The chip portion size was enough for a serving, that looked delicious. I used to pass there every day on my way to treatment at the Royal Marsden. My parent said they would take me there once treatment was over but it never happened. Ahhh, maybe one day
Oooh now that looked good! 😋 My only negative thought was you could’ve done with a few more chips so a 9 from me.
€35 for a one course meal and a drink , it would want to be 100%, that is expensive
Bit dear for your average chap up north lol
it was 29 quid.
£29 quid for that, bloody mad, the fish in my local chippy, massive with plenty of nice fresh chips, one portion more than enough for 2, with peas and lovley curry sauce £8.50 and still enough left over for the cat !!!
He wasn't reviewing the local fookin chippy.
It had to be old belly buttons face place where you found a decent haddock down in London.
That looked fantastic and what a crunch when you bit in to it
i noticed they stuck on an 'optional' service charge of £3.83 and added it into the total - nothing infuriates me more as the onus is then on you to ask for it removing if you either aint happy with the service, food or this sharp practice. last time it happened i had it removed and left them nothing, but at every other restaurant (where you tip seperate) i always leave one if it's up to scratch. mind you i wouldn put a penny in Ramsays foul greedy mouth anyway lol.
Nearly £30 seems a bit steep for fish and chips and a beer but I have to admit, the haddock looked damn good and the location of the place was spot on.
Forgot to mention something relating back to a previous review you did at the Fisherman's wife in Whitby. There was something said about the thickness of the haddock and that's how it came. The thickness of the fish at Ramsey's place obviously proves that to be a lie. Please keep up the good work
Hi Geoff, £30.00 as you say a bit high could not take the family there (6) but a couple for the surrounding, the service, and the quality decently and my sore would be 10/10 8% being placed on service and cleanliness. For the Manager/Gordon where the MacMaster sat pretty sloppy painting around the sill/brickwork
Fish & chips looked great Lee making me hungry! 😂
MM looked damn good to me a very good sized portion of haddock, I think the manager/supervisor clocked you as he went by three times in five minutes looking straight at the camera😂and yes possibly a few more chips but the fish is the important part not spuds plus no ridiculous gravy involved so £29 in London I suppose is acceptable to some from that area if you're Rupert the hedge fund director. You didn't mention the service charge, I know the guy picked up your coat but I would expect him to have put it on for me as I was leaving. Looked really nice just a bit dear for us plebs✌️🍻
Really nice video Lee,would love to have seen the waiters face if you had said ..Are you sure this fish is dead?...Cos its eaten all the chips...lol..
Seriously this looks a real classy place to eat, would go there just to say I've eaten at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.
Sounds really good, looked really good. I'm glad it came up to muster. I follow Dunfermline and at a game in Inverness Gordon Ramsey was for some reason in the Dunfermline end. He was lovely with the fans, talking to them and giving autographs. He seemed like a really nice guy.
Another great vid Lee looked awesome credit where credit is due always honest and fair that’s our MacMaster 😂😂👍👍
Looked good Lee - it’s a stunning location with good food so I think Gordon has done well here
Now you’re talking, that looked superb! Yes not many chips, but enough for me... I can only ever manage a coneful, any more and they’re wasted. The price was steep but you’ve got the fabulous food, the setting and of course the superb service. If you want decent staff you have to pay decent wages. It’s a 10 from me.
You’ll have to go back there with Darren and try the puds. 😋😋
Golden Ramsay wouldn't have trained the waiting staff because Waiting is a skill in it's own right and chefs can't do the job. When I was a Silver Service Waiter I not only had to develop the motor skills to be able to serve properly but I was expected to be able to cook a meal at the table on a spirit lamp, so you can see that a Waiter is even more skilled than a chef. What a lot of people overlook is the difference between establishments. Buying fish and chips in Spoons is very different to the same thing in a restaurant, for a start the staff in the pub will just be a random chav with no ambition. Waiters however train hard in their jobs and the food is made from scratch on the premises. Spoons buy theirs ready cooked and frozen from such companies as Paramount 21. All the chav in the pub has to do is warm up the frozen snap and bung it on the plate. However in my day we would never present anything in its packaging and is would be served in appropriate dishes and containers. Remember that you are not just paying for fish and chips, excellent food, surroundings and outstanding service have to be paid for and you won't get that in a cafe or a pub.
I guess this is why GR has £11 million worth of homes and a net value of £150 million, just from being a cook. If people are gullible enough to pay £30 for a fish and literally a handful of chips, why not milk them dry?
I don't like Ramsay, I think he's a mouthy Cnut, but you can't deny that he's got that place spot on.
'You get what you pay for' which includes the location, the service and the food. All of which seemed to me to be excellent. As for those commenting on the portion size; I disagree, I'd much rather have a smaller, but sufficient portion of great quality food than a larger portion of inferior quality food: Most of which would probably go to waste anyway. Portioning the food precisely saves on waste and is a very responsible act on the part of the restaurant in my opinion. I'd also give it a 10/10!
another great video mac ' ...keep 'em coming
Food looked great! And as you say a lovely view while you're eating, another great video lee 😊
Great honest assessment 👏. Thought the meal looked great.Could of done with a few more chips though. As always 10\10 video.
Did you take the little condement jars home? ❤ so cute, reminds me of jam preserve
I have my own channel the rambling rose with you be kind as to check it out please, its only short from content not food 🙏 im really enjoying you channel, and have afew recommendations up north if you would be willing to try 😃
We could always do with a few more chips. Lol. I always (if they serve it), judge a place on its fish & chips, it’s just a standard for me. That fish & chips though, looked pretty darn good. Very difficult to judge food via video, because the main ingredient……taste……is missing. That is the basic thing about T.V. chefs, many people rave at how good they are, I wouldn’t know, I’ve never actually tasted anything they have cooked. I have eaten some pretty amazing food in my lifetime, as I guess we all have, none of it prepared and cooked by a top chef. Those fish and chips by the way, with a beer and superb service, top value for money……10/10.👍
I'd love to visit one of Gordon Ramsey's Restaurants & yes it's going to be expensive but you can guarantee without doubt its going to be delicious quality food.
Looked great and Mushy Peas were perfect consistency. I'll knock a point off for the exorbitant price (Maybe it's not exorbitant in London) and the stingy amount of chips but a solid 9 for me.
£29.33. omg, I would want a happy ending as well at that price. great vid, cheers.
🤣🤣👌
🤣🤣
Wow that's mad 🤣🤣
I had to do a double take on that menu, £4 for Bread and Butter?! That butter better be gold plated.
Hiya Lee, the food looked so good. Great price too. Enjoyable video as always. Thank you for sharing. Have a good day. Take care.
Looks fantastic. Look that up next time in London Town.
I look forward to my haddock n chips, when I drive up to Ullapool in the Scottish highlands. At the Arch Inn. In winter time they do fishy Friday. Sit down for £8. Unless the price gone up.
Awesome review and i have to say when the food came out it looked amazing .....Going to try there next time i am in the big smoke nice one 😀
Even vicariously, I can see that this must have been a nice experience. A beautiful setting, attentive yet relaxed staff and a simple, well-cooked meal. Even on video it looks like a perfect ten. Glad you had a good time for once.
I myself am sceptical about the celebrity of restaurant ownership and product placement. I remember some years ago Raymond Blanc had a cooking show. In one episode he had this idiosyncratic food blender which was just not fit for purpose; it was awkward to work and when it did work it wasn't very good. Clearly annoyed (you don't see RB annoyed) he turned to his crew and asked, where had this blender come from? Someone meekly pointed out that it was from his own signature range, and bore his name on the side. To his credit, he immediately burst out laughing.
I really like RB and enjoy watching him cook on TV, but I once went to Le Petit Blanc in Birmingham UK and it was distinctly mediocre. Not bad; just not memorable.
Getting further and further away from your experience at The Narrow, I remember Blanc once appearing on a show where at the end two chefs would be invited to compete to see who could make an omelette the most quickly. Blanc, apparently affronted by this prospect, indignantly announced, "You cannot make an omelette in less than four minutes." Sure enough, the other guy dishes up a plate of raw scrambled eggs in 30 seconds; Raymond serves a perfect omelette some time later.
Now with my life experience fresh fish flakes in big chunks which you pick up with your fork, if it disintegrates into shrapnel it isn’t the freshest . Looked good but would of it of passed the chunky test. Great reviews keep then coming we have even done a Northerner visits Margate :-) Fancy a battered whale and a ton of chips try the Harbour View near Whitley Bay, Northumberland.
That's about the nicest piece of haddock I've seen you have, you get what you pay for. Stay safe everyone .🙏
That cod looks amazing now im hungry 😂😂
Wow The Fish & Chips looked good Lee Good price for London The staff wow as for the service charge fair to me But That Haddock looked amazing
Had a drink there a couple of times keep meaning to try the food. The question is did you pay for the service charge?
I did pay the service charge. Was worth it.
Although its less than you you get at your local chippy, I would say that portion size is bang on.
that fish must have been hungry !! he ate all the chips !!
Excellent video great to watch. Looks absolutely spot on Gordon Ramsay's. Looks really nice 10/10 top viewing.
I can't believe how much that was. It did look very clean and crisp but I think ill stick to my local
That would be called a "half" or "mini" fish supper in Scotland.
Is Davys still operating on the road out of Aberdeen to Inverness
I thoroughly f*****g enjoyed that mate......f*****g onwards.....🤣🤣♥️
Lol. :0)
I think it looked fabulous! I would mark it 8 out of 10. The price is high. But it's the service and reputation you are paying for.
i was mid sentence writing a comment thinking why you hadn't had the sticky toffee pudding as been before here before and low a behold you add the little bit at the end saying you wish you had - it would have finished you off it is that good 🤤
Bloody hell, it looks good but the portion size and the price is absolutely ridiculous...
These service charge are taking the piss now every restaurant does it id rather stay at home
That looked amazing! Its central London, its Gordon Ramsey, its not going to be cheap, what the hell.....want to go to London now, just to try it.
I am stunned by your camera quality. It looks like 4k in 1080P. What's the secret Sir?!
Thank you. It's the new iPhone 13 Pro Max
@@TheMacMaster Awesome. I just bought the 13 mini. Have not tried the camera yet😇
Fish looked great. I had cod and chips in one of his cafes in Las Vegas and tbh they were poor, so it’s good to see they are doing them properly here.
I’ve eaten at a few of his gastro pubs and even his flagship place, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea. My experiences have always been off the scale fantastic. Always.
Looked like the perfect combination of location/service/food. 30 pounds in Australia works out to be around $56.00 for a beer and fish n chips, so very expensive, but if the experience is a good one, price doesn't really matter.
That really is expensive, where I'm from it's £5.99
Looks gorgeous, but “‘’Ow much???” (I’m a Yorkshireman 😁). London prices I suppose. Would agree there should be more chips, but the fish is what I’d expect. You’re a man after my own heart as well. Every last morsel on the plate gone 👍🏼😁. A definite 10/10 from me as well (as long as you’re paying 😂)
Lol. 😂 👍🏼
I've got a 12 inch plate and my locals special and chips costs 9.95 with peas and covers the plate and some more! I live in a posh village with a lot of money but they still don't hike up the prices like Ramsey
I have nothing but sympathy for you. (You're a Yorkshireman) You're life can only get Better.
It can't get any worse.
just checked the menu online and the haddock chips and peas is £19, which is very good value for London, and I guess with Gordon's reputation to uphold, you know it's going to be very good quality and service. I imagine there are some greasie chippies in the west end that would charge the same price for frozen pangasius. I paid £19 recently for cod, chips and peas in a country pub near Manchester, the cod was nice-ish though not particularly fresh, and the batter was chip shop batter, no comparison to Gordon's. I would certainly pay £19 for what MacM ate there just now, but I would ask them to take the skin off the fish.
Where was that opening shot off the Docklands crossings the viaduct please?
Just round the corner from the restaurant
@@TheMacMaster cheers will have a look at that when I eventually get back to London.
