Need to find a Suzuki samurai. It’s was modeled after a tractor in Japan I believe. Won’t go fast but has a real short wheel base. Provided you can find one. Good luck gathering the right parts. Enjoy the day👍👍
Good morning. You are living in a little piece of heaven. Quiet most of the time, beautiful scenery, plenty of space with the mountains for R&R. Let's hope it stays that way. We finally got some snow & I am geared up for it. Thanks for sharing.
I had to look twice at that thumbnail picture. That looked a hell of a lot like my old friend Ray Earth Quicksilver, who was an ol hippie. He died back in 19. He didn't have a sweater like that, but he would have worn it if he did😂. Ive had a couple doppelgangers. For about 5 years there was a fella around here that had the same first name as me that looked close enough we could have been twins. We used the same bank and several times there were mix-ups. I finally met him after several years of being mistaken for him. My buddy and i where sitting at a bar in the next town over when my buddy pointed and said" that guy looks just like you." I went over and introduced myself. He got a big kick out of it because people were mistaking him for me to. We had a good time. He was about an inch taller and had a bit more red in his beard but otherwise it was pretty darn close.
It might be him? I have no idea who it is. For years, people were calling me Clarance. I had no idea who Clarance was. When we finally met, he said "I wondered who that Muskrat guy was too"! Ha! Now we are friends and tell people we are Brothers, but have different folks......most don't get the joke!
Awesome video brother ! Where are you finding the overseas videos on this experiment and what did you call this vehicle/ contraption ? My courieosity is up there ! The snow dog is still in the running yet this machine tops it a tad ! Thanks for sharing !!!!! 🙏👍😊❤️
There's a bunch of them. Look up tracked vehicles, and I bet they come up. The best ones are Russian. The subtitles are close enough to figure out what they are saying.

It is a great idea that could help us access our spring bear hunting area. Most years, we can't even get there before the last weekend of the hunt on account of the rotten snow. Anyway, it will be fun to watch. Good luck!
Good Morning! I think it will make a lot of difference. Hopefully at least! Rotten, soft snow can be bad no matter what you try to use. Even Jeff's tracked side x side can't get through that stuff. Thank you! If nothing else, it should be fun to do!
I’ve been thinking of building a snow dog ,but with two tracks side by side. The bigger the wheels the shorter the track surface, longer should be better flotation. That’s my 2 cents, good luck with your project, the snow dog is how I found your channel!
You should! It was fun to do. There's two facebook groups with a lot of good info I found after I had mine made. Look up "Track Sled Builds of the North" and "Personal Tracked Vehicles". If you do make one, I'd love to see it! Two tracks would be more stable, but might be hard to steer.
I think you want Susuki Samurai parts. Light weight and NARROW. The whole project stems from which rear-end you put in it. The torque convertor is the way to go. I put a 420cc 16hp hemi predator in the Tinger. Syntrifical clutches are an expensive disappointment. I've been working on a sled seat that will have suspension. My back can't go over frozen in rocks, chisel plowed fields n bumpy/heaved ice...so improvise, adapt and overcome. I've got only a few weeks left of trapping seaon n haven't got 1 set out. Those tractor tires tracks seem like the way to go, if you can count on no inner spin.
Maybe. Those little Samourai trucks are pretty expensive I think though? A wrecked junk yard one might not be too bad. I've never messed with the centrifugal clutches. The guy with the monster truck videos says he liked them better? Having some give in the seat would be a good thing. just tracks alone will be a rough ride. I hope the tractor tires are big enough. They would be the easiest way to go. I think if you drilled them and put bolts trough them from the inside out, it would make Ice cleats on the outside and the bolt heads would grab the tire on the inside so it wouldn't slip and spin?
Good morning!! I love listening to you talk when you get into the inventing mood. If you just keep throwing ideas out loud, it's not long til you work out solutions which turn into realities. Sometimes it's physical trial and error processes but simply talking out loud tends to bring good and bad ideas out and your mind says yes or no to them and starts building a picture. You can learn a lot just listening to other people's chains of thought.
Good Morning! Thanks! I think the only way to do anything like this is to think about it a long time and not get into a big hurry. Luckily, there are a lot of You tube videos on this I can steal ideas from and learn from other folks mistakes. Most are Russian and the subtitles are off, but you can still figure it out.
“Stole my head and stuck it on a garden gnome.” 😂😂😂😂 BTW, you sound SO much better! Appreciate the video. You made me laugh. Have a great day, my friend! 😊

Morning 👋🏻 Wow that picture is wild. Course if I ran into him,(even though I’ve never met you in person) I’d know you would never dress like that 😳 Have a great day ❤🙏🏻❤️
Gosh Muskrat, you do have a double out there. What a great pile of fencing you have there. A pile like that is very sparse here in my neck of the woods of NY. I go to a lot of ReStores here looking for old fencing to keep around my fruit trees in the winter as the white tail bucks here like to wreak havoc on them during the rut season if I wrap them in burlap, so I have discovered if I use fencing, they stay away. Also, watching the video you said pack rats. What I'd give for a pair of those wooden oars. I was gifted a small rowboat but need new oars for it. I stop at all the junk shops whenever I am out and about, something will turn up one of these days, besides no need for them now as my pond is frozen over. Stay warm!
Aw Muskrat don't mess up a good ranger truck. What's up with it? I'm a retired Ford mechanic. I might be interested in taking it off your hands if you want to sell it at the right price. I love them old rangers. Is it a 4 cylinder or V6, I remember you saying here while back but I've already forgot.
Good Mornin Sunshine! Ain't got no leatherwork projects goin' on top of everythin' else? Tannin' beaver tails and makin' stuff? Ever consider doin' any beadwork? Electrician got all the lights put in the new garage, got ta get over an measure things up for benches, figure where I want my overheads and such. Still got to get that slate top out, and see what I'm dealin' with there. BTW, when you buy yer leather for projects, do you get a full hide, half, or shoulder? Is there a good weight that seems to work best for stuff like holsters, sheaths and such? I hear about "veg tanned" leather, whatinell is that process? Sorry fer bein' such a noob. Take er easy!
Good Morning! I have a LOT of leatherwork to get done....I can't say just yet, but you will understand the problem before too long. When I buy my leather, I but Veg-tanned saddle skirting. What they do, is tan it using oak bark instead of man made chemicals. It's expensive, but buy USA tanned Herman Oak or Wicket & Craig brand leather. It's better tanned and a lot easier to use than most. I buy a whole side, but a shoulder, or double shoulder has less waste. The leather along the belly is stretchy and not as useful. For a gun holster or knife sheath, you want about an 8-10 ounce thickness. It's fun to do, you would enjoy it I think. If you come back to the Horse Sale, I've probably got enough pieces to give you some to start with.
Years ago I used to subscribe to a neat news paper/magazine called Farm Show magazine. It has articles from all over the United States in Canada on home built things and unique animals all sorts of different things real neat magazine. Just not sure if they still produced that magazine. Stay safe I watch your videos every day.
Good morning Muskrat! I feel like I should apologize for taking up so much room in your other comments section.. The Hall Ck. story is a complicated one to tell right. If you want to hear more about that, I'll try to be way more concise. Looking forward to your Snow Dog build, that will be an interesting project! That old "Hippie" did resemble ya, but he didn't have the expression in his eyes that you do! :)
Good morning! Oh heck no, I'm happy that you did. I've got a lot of interest in stuff like that and would love to hear more about it! This Hippy fella's eyes look more like my cousin Greg's eyes.
@@MuskratOutdoors Alrighty, but I will attempt to be shorter... I have a lifetime of things that have happened and some of it is periphery to the so-called "Bigfoot" topic. As weird and odd as it sounds, my son has also become an unintentional "victim" of this to. I get to see things and feel things that others miss and I have since I was a kid. Not so much now that I'm a lot older, but you know what I mean. Over my 50 years of being in the woods, I have seen high strangeness and the increase of the numbers of whatever these "Beings" are. Several of my hunting friends have reported to me about loud screams that scared them out of the woods and I have offered to go back to where it happened to investigate the incident. Non of them ever would take me up on that. I made every attempt to locate the areas myself, but was never certain that I found them. They never hunted there again to my knowledge. Back in the 80s, my older brother and a friend were hunting at Hall Ck. They camped in his Ford high boy with camper at the Hall Ck. camp ground, such as it is. One night, "something" slammed the camper hard enough that the entire truck was nearly tipped clear over and Tim was knocked out of his bed and my brother was pushed against the wall. They left and don't hunt up there anymore. My brother wants to believe that a bear did that! :)

Good morning 🌞 Muskrat, I think that in order to use a normal vehicle as a trackmobile you would need a suspension lift very similar to those rock crawler rigs. I had a buddy in high school who’s brother took a 4-door 1957 bel air station wagon, cut the body and frame back door section out and welded it back together. That made the wheelbase the same as a cj-7 so he put it on a jeep running gear. I’m interested in seeing what you come up with. Have a wonderful day and watch your topknots my friends 👍💪🙌🙏🌈✌️🐽🐷🐖
I bet so too. I think you could do it, but it would be more work. Too bad tracks already made are so much money. To get tracks made for a pickup, they cost between $15,000- $25,000 depending on size. A lot more than I've got!
@ I really like the tractor tire track idea. That’s a great repurposing idea. Another tire that might work is the big turf tires like that farm has on the rig they built. A 7’ tall tire is a pretty big circumference and the tire is more flexible than a normal cleated tractor tire and probably a lot smoother ride 👍💪🙌🙏🌈✌️🐽🐷🐖
Good Morning Muskrat, Ya that is what they say, we all have a twin someplace. 😅 I think you could probably start from scratch easier than using the little pickup. Check out the BOMBARDIER . Have a Great Day. 😊
Good morning my brother in law has a 2004 Dodge 4x4 like yours for sale 700.00 over heated engine it shut down cranks over won't start rebuilt rear end . Unfortunately engine wasn't that old reman.
Sounds like a warped head or bad head gasket. Might not be too hard of a fix? Naw, all I need is a rear end with a small pumpkin out of a car with disc breaks. It could be about anything really. 5 stud axles would be great since I have tire rims, but that's not a big deal either.
It's pretty close 4 sure. Sooo I'm not familiar with aluminum as a material. Or it's strength. But maybe viable? However I seen a video that incorporated two duplicate engines side x side. Each controlling it's own track . Two throttles, that mitigated steering. More goose to the right side for left hand turn, and visa versa. Ultimately this build had a low profile, narrow tracks, and intended mostly for crossing marshy country. Still a neat build. If I can find the video in my history and send you a link. Mountain man

I think so too. I keep forgetting to do that! Thanks for the reminder! I'll do it right now.
Are we sure about that? (garden gnome)😁😁😁😁😁😁 Eyes different color, beard different..... Uncanny resemblance though.
Ha! His eyes look more like my Cousin Greg.
Good morning my brother in law has a 2004 Dodge 4x4 like yours for sale 700.00 over heated engine it shut down cranks over won't start rebuilt rear end . Unfortunately engine wasn't that old reman.
The last of Gary's bodystyle was 2001 I believe. (94-01)
@NonTypicalRacing rebuilt rear end Gray mentioned he wanted a rear end
@knoxmotorsports yeh, that'd work. Just getting greedy w/all the rest of it being so close to working on his truck for spare parts. Good deal tho!!!
Sounds like a warped head or bad head gasket. Might not be too hard of a fix? Naw, all I need is a rear end with a small pumpkin out of a car with disc breaks. It could be about anything really. 5 stud axles would be great since I have tire rims, but that's not a big deal either.
It is a 2001
If I did it right 420CC is 28 HP.
Really? Wow! More than I thought! That would be enough I think. Thank you!
Mountain man
I think I saw that one? Two engines is a different idea for sure.
It would be good if you could just run one and get home.
@MuskratOutdoors lol true, but funny. Reminded Baxter black the one 🦵 cowboy
Mornin brother you have a twin haha👍👍
Ha! It is funny!
Good evening Gary. Are we going to see you lite up a left handed cigarette 🚬 like Willie😂? Your alternative universe photo got me to thinking 🤔...good luck engineering your snow machine. You and Cindy take care. 🇺🇲🌲🔥🔪

That's freaky.
The King of Obsolete channel does some pretty cool engineering. He was an ice road trucker. He's in Manitoba.
Good Morning!!!!
It sure is!
I haven't seen his. I'll have to look it up. The best ones are those Russian videos. Sub titles help, but they aren't really what is being said. Close enough to figure out what they doing.

This looks very feasable and putting some type of body /or cab around it would be fairly easy..Have fun building cant wait to see what ya come up with.I really was digging his idea with the heavy duty casters..in the track system.???
Have a blessed day hello Miss Cindy.✌️❤️😁
That's about what I want to build. I'd like to see his drive system closer though. Mose use a car differential, but that looks like something else?
@MuskratOutdoors I would maybe send a comment and see if ya might get a response or maybe try to pause the video when he's backed up to the camera..Good luck 🤞 I know you'll come up with somethin'.
You never seize to amaze me ya always got somethin goin. And it usually works out just fine m dandy.
