  • I've been chipping away at my cine lens collection over the years and here are my two newest additions! Here is my review of the Meike 10mm T2.2 and the Meike 35mm T2.2 for micro four thirds.
    Here is a real-world review of both of these Meike lenses.
    I shot a full wedding with the Meike cine lenses, and I think the footage is insanely good! The whole Meike cine lens set is such great value for money. Brilliant lenses for the price.

    Meike 16mm T2.2: geni.us/FvyLbW4

    My VND/Mist filters are AMAZING! Just the right amount of mist, in my opinion, without it being over the top. They're from Freewell and you can see them here: geni.us/BfYT9Ml

    I've been using the 16mm on my Gh4 for a while now, but seeing how a full set is 2300, I now know what I'm saving up for next!
    Just spent all my money on a Gh5 ii though, so it could be a while!
    These lenses are spectacular! As for looking too clinical, try using a Tiffen glimmer glass filter. It's $50, but it really does look magical!
    Enjoy using your set, I can't wait to get more seeing how your footage turned out!

    Emily, the only drawback to having that sort of follow-focus is that you lose one point of contact entirely to support the camera well and it strains one hand. The only viable solution I found is to have a wireless side focus handle, wherein the focus pull is incorporated into the handle itself so you never lose two points of contact with the camera.

    Hi Great Video,
    I have the 16mm Meike and was very pleased with it until I bought the Zhongghie Speedmaster T1 17mm and I landed buying the whole set of Zhongghie...they are more in the warm side which suits me and got almost an FF Bookeh with T1.0.
    The Meike in comparaison is more green...using it in GH5,BMPCC4K.
    I will still buy some other Meike Ciné Lens because they cover a huge range of focus length Wich is great...but in Zhongghie territory 17-35mm they are inferior...T1.0 is soft but nice to have.
    Yours Fil

    Great channel, noticed your got the 10mm, I got the 8mm which is super wide, I find on my Gh5 I cannot move with the 8mm because it is so wide fish eye it distorts on movement plus the IBIS is confused by it, have you experienced this with the 10mm? I mainly use the 8mm for static big wide/vista shots, keen to know your thoughts! Thank you

    I love my Meike cine primes, and have been rocking them on my GH-4 but my GH-6 is on the way so I’m very excited to see the results. I will pick up the 8mm & 10mm to complete my set before year end. I find their look to be great for the narrative work I mostly do. I use a 4 X 4 matte box so unwanted flares are usually not an issue and tiffen black promist 1/8 & 1/4 filters add the bloom and softness required to make it all look like a larger budget theatrical release. Tilta remote control of the focus really makes these little beauties shine on gimbals, sliders,and crane shots but does sometime require a focus puller or 2nd ac. When you use them in a “pro” fashion the Meike set does not let you down. 😊

      I’d love to complete the set! Or at least get the 25mm for sure then I have most focal lengths covered for my needs. I’m very much impressed with them and it’s great to hear you’ve had great results with them too in different scenarios to me 😁

    Thanks for this review, you made me give these lenses a shot. I had always been warned by other DOP's to stay clear of any lens calling itself 'cinema' and being well below a 1000,- dollars/euros. So these Meike's being around 400 euros I figured it has to be a trap but most reviews are very positive so what the hell, I'll give it a whirl.
    And I just don't get it. My Meike 25mm is twice as sharp as my panasonic 12-35, and twice as cheap. The longer focus throw as you say makes it neigh impossible to be out of focus and because of it's sharpness and great glass my focus assist has a lot more to work with. I've just had it for a day but yes, I'm very impressed.

    I purchased my first Meike 35mm T2.2 for micro four thirds. I have been using the Olympus Zuiko 35mm F/2 for video work and other glass like Voigtlander 42.5mm F/0.95, 10.5mm F/0.95 and 17.5mm F/0.95. I get lots of focus breathing. @MicroFourNerds  2 года назад +2

      Thank you! I haven’t used the SLR magic ones myself, but from some comparison reviews I’ve seen, I think the general consensus is the Meike cine primes are more precise and colour accurate, and the SLR magic ones seem to be a bit more “stylised” and richer colours. But this is just from other reviews mind! Definitely have a look on youtube and see what you think of both 😁

    All lenses should be calibrated in T stops rather than F stops. F stops only give you predictable DOF. T stops give you predictable and consistent exposure. Much more important. You really need to know your T stops to work with flash and a manual exposure meter. I have conversion factors for all my lenses!

    I've looked at cine lenses and that is a rabbit hole that I can not afford to fall down being a hobbyist.
    Saying that don't suppose you have any suggestions to pull focus for a photography lens?
    I'd love to find a way to focus my manual Siuri 50mm anamorphic lens.
    Its a pain in the proverbial trying to hold the camera, while filming and focus while looking through the view finder or a monitor.
    BTW, what monitor was on your rig?
    Also, I did not know that the Best Man could be a Best Woman. I've only been to a hand full of wedding in my life.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  2 года назад

      I’d recommend a small rig cage, with the mini follow focus just the same as this. It comes with the rubber “teeth” to pull focus on any lens you like 😁 these cine lenses are just handy because their teeth (cogs? Haha) are built in.
      I’m so jelly you have that anamorphic but the way. I’ve been eyeing up the Laowa nanomorphs as well…
      The monitor is a errr (had to check haha) 5” Desview. It’s ok? But I’m now spoiled with the red frame around the screen when I press record on the GH6, and the monitor doesn’t do that, so I find myself always checking the back of the camera anyway 🙈

    • @frankinblackpool
      @frankinblackpool 2 года назад

      @@MicroFourNerds Hi,
      I went on a Smallrig adventure about a month ago. The problem was the cage had a Swiss Arca base and my Manfrotto fluid head did not and this caused the adhoc marriage to be as wobbly as those 1970's Weebles. Even the in camera stabilisation could not cope with a locked off shot panning about. So it went back to amazon.
      Then I discovered a Smallrig Swiss Arca clamp for manftotto tripod heads. This was a game changer when I gave the Smallrig cage a second chance. It works great with my microphone and monitor bolted to the top of it.
      I shall check out the Mini Follow Focus for my cage because at the moment the Sirui lens is sitting in a box unloved.
      As for monitors, I can't recomend my Ninja V highly enough. Best of all, it has the red box around the screen when you press record. The amount of times I've missed important moments when I thought I was filming but I wasn't. I still miss moments but with this visual reminder, I miss less unrepeatable moments. 😀
      I will definitely check the follow focus. Will I need a side handle as well?

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  2 года назад

      @@frankinblackpool the side handle is optional, see how you get on, but the left handle rotates and is great to lean against when using the follow focus, and then it becomes all a bit left-heavy, so my right wooden handle (with record button built in!) balances it out nicely!
      I don’t suppose either are necessary, but they’re both helpful for sure 😁

    • @frankinblackpool
      @frankinblackpool 2 года назад

      @@MicroFourNerds I like the idea of follow focus more and more. And watching your footage using the follow focus has inspired me, especially as my Siuri lens is completely manual. One thing that impressed me was the Aperture ring. Its smooth from end to end, no clicks abrupt changes through the opening and closing of the iris. Way above my skill levels at the moment. Even trying to work out how to de-squeeze blows my tiny little mind.
