We retire in 6 months and hope to slow travel from Mexico to Arequipa in search of our retirement city. We are looking for cool weather, safe, good hospital and healthcare, lots to do, with a low cost of living. We speak Spanish and have lived abroad before. We are Vegan and hope to find good Vegan food. No Cuy for us. We currently live in the US. Would you consider Arequipa a good place to retire ? Love your videos !
Arequipa is called The White City because the center of the city is built with "Sillar" that is a volcanic rock that they get from a place called "Las Canteras del Sillas" Keep it up guys!!
I’m Peruvian (my family is from Arequipa, Cajamarca & Lima). It’s called the white city because of the color of the stone its made off, not because it had white residents (never heard of that). Arequipa is a city that would like to be a separate country (they have their own passport but as a joke). They do have one of the best cuisine in Peru. Love your video 😍
Arequipa is such a good place for food and beautiful views, and is more safe than other parts of Perú

Peru has two rock cities, Arequipa and Cusco, one is sculpted volcanic rock, the other is imperial cut inca stone.
