      There are plenty of players throughout NBA history who either won the scoring title or were say a top 5 scorer in a year that they also went on to have a deep playoff push or win a championship.
      Likewise there are also many players who scored tonnes but couldn’t carry the team anywhere.

      oooo good idea my man, Malone wasn't a scoring leader, but he's an all-time scorer, yet was unsuccessful in the finals

    • @sambeaumont395
      @sambeaumont395 4 года назад

      InThePaint - Yes, but while Malone wasn’t successful (championship) he in part did take the Jazz to the finals twice and to many other successful seasons.
      Whereas other elite scorers just scored lots on crud teams.
      To further the idea, it could be looking at players that were scoring champs/runners up who changed their game to contend or champions whose team wasn’t going to contend that then became scoring champs.
      Many ways to look at it.
      TMac is my prime example because he was an elite scorer and is somewhat underrated in other areas of the game, but he never really went anywhere - yes injuries to him, Grant Hill and later Yao Ming didn’t help the respective teams, but he is always thought of as an elite scorer - but without winning or at least some post season success I don’t think that he should be considered elite.
      How many other players fall into the same category. Who are the players that we don’t think of because they were usually 4th/5th or lower in scoring or were only scorers for a season or two?
