Good video but the cleaning could have been better. You have to remove the pad retainer clip and clean it as well. I agree with the previous comment about not pushing the pistons back with a screw driver

Thanks for the advice, I am far from a professional mechanic and it's always good to get advice from others. 👍🏻

why push on a piston if you can push on an old pad?????

Not sure I would recommend putting the old pads back in. Also prying the piston back with a screwdriver is not a good idea, you can easily damage the pistons.

Fair comment, but why wouldn't you recommend putting the pads back in? You could change them if you wanted to, but if there's plenty of life left in them it would be a waste of money,. This is more about showing how to clean the old pads up and get rid of built up brake dust and crap. I did this on my old 800 twice a year without issue, and the brakes definitely feel nicer afterwards.
Obviously care must be taken when using any tool on the piston!

Unfortunately cannot see anything of you doing the rear brake which is the one I need to do on mine

Sorry! It wasn't complicated in the end, getting the pin out was the worst part.

My brakepads will need replacing soon and I might as well give all 3 calipers a good once-over too while I'm at it. Thanks for this video, it'll come in handy for sure.
10:46 - BTW, how did you get that thing at the end of the rear brakepad retaining pin to go back into the hole after you hammered it out?

It just pops back in through the hole in the pin, it is fiddly but simple enough.👍

@@ukveganbikers Success! It needs to be knocked back in until it's seated properly and showing the cotter pin hole on the inside. Greasing the bulb end really helps. Thanks mate. Also, unscrewing the brake fluid reservoir until it's open just a crack helps relieve the pressure when you manipulate the piston to gain enough clearance to insert fresh pads which are way thicker.
I also found that brake cleaner destroys nitrile gloves.

What gloves are you wearing ? Any good feeling through them?

They are Muc Off gloves. Great for working on the bike but not waterproof!
