It is so true about owning an old house. The house has hidden secrets just waiting to be exposed at any time that cost a lot of money. But living in a house with such rich character is so worth it. It looks great. Your new kitty’s are adorable!

You know what I really like about your videos. It makes me feel better about jobs I have already done just a couple of years ago that now looks like I never even touched. I think I just did that and it looks awful. But your videos made me ok with that because it's the normal cycle of owning a home. Seeing you do things like the columns and replacing and repainting things really helps me have a positive view of my home and the cycle of redoing things. Besides I think it's kind of a privilege to tend to features that have been in exisiance longer than I have.

I have a much newer home and still do what you do to maintain our investment. The home emergency fund goes to whichever situation arises first. Ours, being in NC, was the central air system because they installed a single story unit and we live in a two level home. That was more expensive then we expected because the entire system needed replaced. Patching our outdoor columns is done with silicon and paint. I 100% enjoy these videos as a home owner because, well, priorities.❤❤❤😊

You are doing a great job! You are willing to learn and do things yourself. Ignor those that dont realize that everyone does not have the funds to do everything at once.😅
My house is not as old as yours, but was near needing a new roof, the back deck (snall, poorly made dyi by previous owner) was falling apart and boards on the front porch abd steps needed to be replaced. I didn't like the front porch because it was only about 4 feet deep. I wanted to eventually replace it with a porch 10 feet deep so it would comfortably have a sitting area, so since repairs were needed it seemed like a good time to get it all done. Since they would need to extend the roof over a larger porch, it seemed best to replace the roof and also change the back deck to a back porch with a roof over it. It looks great and i am very pleased with it, but there was a 3 month delay in starting it and prices of materials went up and it ended up $15,000 over budget. Since then, i had to replace my heating system. Hopefully most repairs have been done now. Just need to have some more trees removed - very large, diseased and dangerous. You are fortunate that you are able to do so much yourself. We are no longer able to do so. Most of us have to do thing in stages as our budget allows. I bought the farm 14 years ago and have had projects done each year, some big, some small (new fencing around the lower pasrure, new barn roof, new floor in the feed room, paving for the parking area, a carport, bathroom rennovation, trees removed, etc.) It is never ending. I physically can no longer do repairs, painting and yard work, so it gets expensive just keeping the yard ans pastures mowed and fences repaired. I enjoy your videos very much.

👏👏👏well done you ,good job ,porch is looking great from where im sitting, just keep on patching sanding and painting until it goes to the top of the priority list and the roof may cave in 🥴NOT hopefully .we live in an old bungalow, have done for 40 years since our girl was 4,it has cost
Us money all its life but we have loved living in it and as time has gone by we have prioritosed the jobs as necessary, keeping a new roof on tap until retirement came and we knew it was just going to have to be done,so it was!£22.000 but boy it is best looking roof in the neighbourhood now 😜🥂❤❤❤Lizzie

We re looking at roofing costs too and are leaning towards a metal roof. They last 50+ years.

We had 2/3 inch downspouts on and removed the smaller 2/3 inch ones replaced with 3/4 inch ones made a huge difference solved our clogging, great job Sophia! We are also getting things done this year! Feels great doesn’t it?! 😎(our gutter guy told us that screws often times cause the leaves and debris to get clogged so he installed ours without screws just fastened them to the house. (No screws)

Every time we have to adjust or clean out the downspouts, I am amazed at how rickety they are, and so easy to become misshapen so it’s impossible to fit them together properly again. Shouldn’t there be a better design after all these years? 😂

Hello, Sophia! Your porch looks clean, neat and well organized. At the age of 68, I sold my house and moved into a duplex apartment. I reached the point where I had to make a change because I was trying to maintain a house and garden that I was no longer able to do myself. I had to hire everything done, and it was just too much for me.

We re planning on having everything done before we actually retire so it s not a burden on us once we reached old age.

Your yard looks gorgeous if I was to drive by your house I would say oh what a pretty house I live in Florida, so I certainly would drive around New Jersey and look at the homes. It’s charming just like you thank you.

Your bird bath might be better off in front of the bushes (where the vet. flag is) rather than by the front walk. Birds like to have a place to perch and hide near their feeders and bird baths. They feel safer there. Keeping your gutters clean and clog free prevents a lot of damage. Good job done.Your kitties are so sweet!

I have birds coming in so I am not worried. The large tree in front of the house is just perfect.

So happy for the kitties and you. I'm so glad you're keeping them indoors. Today there are so many coyotes around it's just not worth the risk. We have a drain on the back of our house like yours. We had to replace the elbow part because it was bent and everything got trapped. So far so good. Yard looks great!
