This was so educational! I love hearing your thoughts on the items. It helps to train my own thrifting eye.👍 I saw so many items I’d love to have for myself-the struggle is real!😆
You brought back a good memory for me of drinking my morning orange juice from those little glasses I think you said were Libby glasses at Goodwill. Mom had those forever and I bet if I looked in my stepdad's cabinet, they are still there.
Oh, all those pick flowered Mikasa glassware you saw! I know they are ot that old, from the 90's but they melt my butter! They were some shapes I do not have. Did you get the Spice O Life square pan on the other isle across from the Mikasa?
Hey you were in my territory 😀 I saw those Austrian dishes in East Brunswick Goodwill and was tempted too. But I don’t have a reselling business right now and I own way too many dishes! Love 2nd Ave. there’s always something interesting there. If you have time next time you’re in the area, Unique thrift on Route 22 is close to 2nd Ave and is worth a look.
As per goodwill their prices have increased because the market value of things has increased. They are also using technology and comparative websites to determine prices. Minimum wage has also increased so are property taxes. With the push for being environmental friendly, purchasing 2nd hand is no longer seen as "poverty" and "unsanitary". The percentage of resellers compared to regular customers is really really low. I don't think it s fair to say that the 0.4% at best are driving up the prices. Their prices went up following supply and demand principles. I remember Goodwills being ghost towns. Now you have to wait in line. If goodwill is attracting more customers because 2nd hand thrifting is trendy and cool, you better believe their business model will increase prices. Opening the bin stores was a big and costly financial gamble as well as operating their revamped auction site. At the end of the day, it's a business.
@@mygreatchallenge yup I know it’s a business….when I first moved to Florida in 2003…things were a bargain…in fact we pretty much stocked our house because we didn’t move much from here… then they started going up up up…. My neighbors had been flipping for years and he was monitoring prices and complaining…When we moved back to NJ in 2015…it was even worse up here…I know things have gone up all over for all those things you mentioned….& I understand how businesses work…overhead etc…worked in Corporate administration for years…..but at the end of & after the pandemic and a lot more people were home and taking to Flipping things more they skyrocketed…(yes supply and demand) and sure why not increase prices…but nonetheless as I said it is “ONE of the reasons” they had increased……it is what it is…in all honesty I’m in downsizing mode….I don’t buy anything anymore unless there is a real need….I’m in giving mode…giving to those who really need things…but not places like Goodwill that are looking for Profit. In my wisdom, I’ve learned most of what we buy just ends up being STUFF on a shelf or in a closet and primarily dust collectors, which, if we don’t get rid of them before we die…someone else will🥴….I’m over leaving that burden behind some day….Danish Death Cleaning is the way to go…bit by bit….😂😂😂 I’ll be a voyeur from afar and watch others collect, buy and sell… and to top it all off I don’t have to dust any of it! 😉🙌🏻

No I left it behind, I already have it.
@ 4:49 camel figurine looks like it’s Artesania Rinconada. Not a huge profit margin but small and easy/economical to ship.
8:07 You ledt a plate from “Villeroy & Boch”, Why?
I can t pick anything and Villeroy & Boch is replaceable anywhere on the internet.
Most of my clothes come from the thrift store too. I am hard on my tops so don’t like to pay a lot
Same here.
In the ledt corner.
I am the 2nd !

I used to go to the unique in union city until their prices went nuts. It wasn't worth it but they are great for clothes.
@@mygreatchallengeIt is definitely hit or miss. But I have found some cool things there that they overlooked with their crazy pricing!
People who thrift and resell are one of the reasons prices at Goodwill have increased substantially

Same here downsizing now as we speak. Taking care of myself is top priority at this point in my life! Yay for downsizing! Less is more! 🎉😁
