Does anyone ever give one thought to left-handed writers? Without a spiral, I am holding the Scripture side down with my writing arm, so that I have to keep moving my hand to see what to comment. With the spiral it's much the same. I don't have to hold the journal open; but, I have to write with my hand lifted over that big spiral. All my life! One time, about the eighth grade, I found a composition book designed for lefties. I was grateful. I don't expect the Bible publishers will cater to so few. I'm accustomed, by now. My signature looks freakish when I sign most registers at funerals or weddings, since I almost never get to sign on the back side of a page. My choice is a difficult one. I'd choose the lay-flat non-spiral, and put them collectively in a three-ring binder as I complete them.
Great job! Congrats to Crossway publisher. That is an amazing idea. I love the spiral. So practical. Thank you for producing these journals for the Bible. I have the impression they will be successful because they are practical. What a nice way to read a Bible book and journal it. God bless you and keep it up!
I specifically bought the new spiral bound version of the Psalms for prayer journaling. I like that it lays flat, and I prefer that with any kind of journal.
I was at Crossway a few months ago, and they mentioned the spiral-bound edition coming out. One of the reasons for moving towards spiral-bound was due to popular demand and because the binding of the older version was coming apart over time.
I would definitely choose the spiral bound because the way they lay flat is more comfortable for me to take notes without having to hold the book down as I write. Thanks for this video! I didn't know Crossway made these in spiral bound!
If I had to choose I would choose spiral. The only downside to the Spiral is keeping them on the bookshelf. I have the entire CSB Scripture Notebook set so even if they do a spiral version, I'm sticking with what I have.
In our church's spiritual formation classes, I teach from these and use the spiral-bound versions because they lay flat. Both are great, however, it is much easier to teach and read from the spiral-bound.
I really like the new Spiral, but I wish (on both) that they had a few lined sheets before the first chapter so you could write down introductory notes... Fantastic video, love your work.
Spiral bound all day long!! I have had many perfect bound Bible study materials split & spiral bound. So grateful that most come with that option now. I think it’s because I write all over the place. Also, prefer my prayer journals spiral bound. Thanks for doing this. Love you both!
I have the older non- spiral black ones that I started taking to a Bible study group whenever we are studying through a certain book and I love the portability and the blank page to take as many notes as I want. A great product!
Left handed here…spiral notebooks are generally not my friend, so I’ll probably get the regular bound. Loved the comparison though! As a side note: if I could reverse the pages on the spiral and have the blank pages on the left and the Scripture on the right I would 100% go spiral!
Great channel and enjoy all of your Bible related topics Tim. I use and prefer the original bound journal as I have one on Galatians and plan for more of them on my shelf. They just fit there better. I discovered Crossway through your channel.
Tim Nichols mentioned in a recent video that the ESV is probably going to be doing yet another update on their translation. So, I’m personally sticking with the NKJV, Thomas Nelson Bible Journals. ( But I did purchase the big spiral ESV. Too late to return. Wish Crossway told us about a new revision, before they put out their larger spiral. I’ll still use it for Women’s Bible Studies, which are many times geared towards the ESV version). Thx Tim and Becka. Those are very nice! No potato chip clip needed to hold it open. lol! ❤
Nice review and Becca does such a good job at complementing this show. I love them both but I am like you Tim and I like the bound version over the spiral agreeing with all the things you mentioned. The spiral bound looks sturdy but I remember in school with continual transport the spirals would get bent or crushed making it difficult to turn pages. I am thinking with repeated use, the pages in the spiral bound would eventually start to tear out. I would love to eventually get the bound ones for our men's bible study, instead of having a separate notebook or loose paper used for note-taking.
The non-spiral ones are elegant and most likely readily functional but I'd go with the spiral bound variant. My most important reason for that preference has to do with dispositional traits - I like to work with as little "in front of me" distractions as possible and I think it would really annoy me to have to hold the book open with my off hand while writing. If it weren't for that, I'd go with the elegant volumes.
i wasn't aware esv came out with a spiral version til today.. we are starting a revelation study that will run til summer, so im getting this so i can really devote time and space to this book
I would love a modern version of a loose leaf. One you can add more pages into. These are great but there simply isn't enough room for many of us to write, draw diagrams etc. I want a mega study version where you can insert your own charts or note pages so you can have one big comprehensive place to put your study notes and keep adding to it over a lifetime. I have soooo many notebooks filled with bible study notes, it's crazy. I wish I could just combine them all into one.
Thanks guys for the review, I would choose the Spiral Bound Journals because I have the non spiral bound and the binding started to come apart from binding.
I have slipcase set. They do separate from binding with use. Also, they thicken up with writing and the full set no longer fits in slipcase. Despite these issues and issues with ESV as a translation, overall I enjoy the set. I’m ordering Psalms in the spiral to give this format a try. Great review as always!
Tyndale has a filament version for NLT as well. They should do that in a spiral bind. LOL. I loved them at first but I switched back to a journaling Bible because it is easier to cross reference your notes to other books.
I'm also a lefty but have surrendered to a world where obviously I'm in the minority when it comes to spiral bound notebooks, especially if I find it annoying to rest my writing hand on the spiral. It is awkward but I just deal with it. I just love the individual Bible books in Scripture journal format, with or without spirals, mainly because I can tote my favorites like Ephesians or Romans, and just read them for all they're worth without feeling obligated whatsoever to write in them although it's difficult not to write in them.
One two things about spiral notebooks. 1 Sometimes the spiral can dig into your hand making them uncomfortable. 2 you can buy bigger spirals and add more blank pages. Just my thoughts.
If there was a way to determine the Book on the Spiral bound I would pick it. I like the ILLUMINATED version because of how easy it is to visually index. But Washi could fix that!
I tried to use the Revelation journal to take notes for the Precepts Revelation study. I ran out of space in sections. I recently got the 8.5×11 New Testament plus 2 others.
Here’s what I dream of: I want the size of the new Journaling editions (8.5x11) but the format/block of these individual journals. I love the size of the journaling Bible volumes, but I vastly prefer having a full blank page next to each page of scripture. Just make an A4 size spiral-bound interleaved edition! That would satisfy me, though maybe no one else would want it.
Oh my! I have long loved the originals, but I think tht the large multi-book volumes would be my choice for spiral-bound, keeping the sewn editions for individual books. I haven't bought the Poetic Books or The Gospels yet, but that is only because I am trying to catch up using the books I have this month. I'm looking forward to weeing what Becca does with those.
Spiral bound I wish they would have the individual covers for each of the books in the set that makes it faster to find the book your looking for especially when your in church service
I’m with Tim on this. The perfect bound would what I would choose. I too sit at a desk to study and I would want to see the text while I study and write. Me personally I’m not a fan of spiral bound. They are pretty but I would pass on them.
Trying to decide if I'd like the larger 8 1/2 by 11 ESV spiral bound bibles or these smaller ones. Hmmmm......the larger one's are cheaper, but kinda partial to the smaller ones...
You could put charms on the top or bottom of the spiral to indicate what book it is like numbers or colors. I don't think they have the names of books of the bible as charms but who ever is the first to make them will be making some serious cash.
Hear me out.....approximately 10% of people are left handed. I'm not one of them, but I can definitely see how frustrating this could be for our backward sisters and brothers. Maybe do a small run with the text on the right?
Question: I'm looking for something just like this, however something much bigger with the whole bible but I wanted a spiral that I can insert extra blank pages for notes, or remove some as it grows. So something closer to the size of the larger journaling bible, but only on the left side like this one so I can insert note blank pages. Do you know of anyone that makes something like that?
I just want crossway to do a 12-point text or more and 10-point study notes study bible. I don't mind if it's 15'x9.5' lol I don't mind the size. It's a study bible! The bigger the text, the better with my eyes. Older people like myself read a lot. Sorry, wrong video, but Im wishful thinking. heh
hey Tim, how can you tell the difference between a Pigskin leather bible vs a Calfskin leather bible? i ask because i recently got the CSB Study Bible in Brown Genuine Leather and i'm not really sure if it's Pigskin or Calfskin because it's super smooth but, i can feel what seems like grain lines and/or wrinkles in it. so, i'm not sure which one it is.
Does anyone ever give one thought to left-handed writers? Without a spiral, I am holding the Scripture side down with my writing arm, so that I have to keep moving my hand to see what to comment. I can totally relate.
These are amazing for when your church is going through a book verse by verse. I’m able to take this to Sunday service!
I love both. The bound one fits in my travelers notebook cover. The wire bound is easier to flip.
What size is your cover? B6 or A5?
@@littlemama4two A5
Oh my word.....i would love each book individually. What a game changer. Would be so much less overwhelming
Great job! Congrats to Crossway publisher. That is an amazing idea. I love the spiral. So practical. Thank you for producing these journals for the Bible. I have the impression they will be successful because they are practical. What a nice way to read a Bible book and journal it. God bless you and keep it up!

I already own the original. I like the way they store on my bookshelf. :)
I just wanted to hop in the comments to say how much I love Becca being here.
Me too!
I really like the new Spiral, but I wish (on both) that they had a few lined sheets before the first chapter so you could write down introductory notes... Fantastic video, love your work.
Spiral bound all day long!!

I agree with Becca and like the spiral ones best
I love u two
❤️🤍💕
PLS more Becca

I lean toward the originals for the same reasons Tim mentioned.
Lay flat ability of the spiral is the killer feature🔥
Love the spiral! Love Becca being in this video even more ;)
Perfect bound!!! I have to have it nice and neat. I want it to display well, as well. Great video guys!
I use the illuminated versions, so I’ll stick with the original binding, plus they’re better for shelf storage!
Great channel and enjoy all of your Bible related topics Tim. I use and prefer the original bound journal as I have one on Galatians and plan for more of them on my shelf. They just fit there better. I discovered Crossway through your channel.
I love being left handed for sport. Not so much for things like this. Even so, I like the spiral bound version.
Hi Becca! Great video! Im liking the spiral journals.
Man I dig the spiral bound. That’s fantastic!!
Nice review and Becca does such a good job at complementing this show. I love them both but I am like you Tim and I like the bound version over the spiral agreeing with all the things you mentioned. I would love to eventually get the bound ones for our men's bible study, instead of having a separate notebook or loose paper used for note-taking.
Love them all! 😂 I have the illuminated Jounaling Bible, so I'd pick the plain individual ones, and I love anything spiral bound 😊
I love the spiral, but I already have about 10 of the original. So I will stick with the original. Both are fantastic options depending on your needs.
I have a really nice note-taking Bible, but these are very tempting. May get one to try them out.
Definitely Spiral-Bound for me.
i wasn't aware esv came out with a spiral version til today.. we are starting a revelation study that will run til summer, so im getting this so i can really devote time and space to this book

I would probably opt for the spiral edition, but the slipcased aspect of the originals is a nice feature.
Tyndale has a filament version for NLT as well. They should do that in a spiral bind. LOL. I loved them at first but I switched back to a journaling Bible because it is easier to cross reference your notes to other books.
For me the perfect bound and for the same exact reasons as Tim! But I totally get the benefits of the spiral bound!
I'm also a lefty but have surrendered to a world where obviously I'm in the minority when it comes to spiral bound notebooks, especially if I find it annoying to rest my writing hand on the spiral. It is awkward but I just deal with it. One two things about spiral notebooks. 1 Sometimes the spiral can dig into your hand making them uncomfortable. 2 you can buy bigger spirals and add more blank pages. Just my thoughts.
These are great as long as you're writing away from the spiral and not into the spiral
If there was a way to determine the Book on the Spiral bound I would pick it.
I like the ILLUMINATED version because of how easy it is to visually index. But Washi could fix that!
I think also using either one is good if your pastor preaches thru a whole book at a time. I would definitely choose the spiral bound
Great idea!
Westminster bookstore has a good sale for both old and new testaments
I tried to use the Revelation journal to take notes for the Precepts Revelation study. I ran out of space in sections. I recently got the 8.5×11 New Testament plus 2 others.
If they made the Tyndale House Greek New Testaments in these Spiral Bound format... I would 100% snag those.
Spiral bound I wish they would have the individual covers for each of the books in the set that makes it faster to find the book your looking for especially when your in church service
I use my scripture journals for writing. I have other bibles that I journal in a journaling Bible or an interleaved Bible.
I'm a spiral girl, but only if discbound isn't available, and for the same reasons Becca stated.
I like them both...
I’m with Tim on this. The perfect bound would what I would choose. I too sit at a desk to study and I would want to see the text while I study and write. Me personally I’m not a fan of spiral bound. They are pretty but I would pass on them.
The spiral is nicer to fold and read or write in. But the other is so much thinner to fit in your bag
I would choose spiral. I’m going to order the NT one.
i need these to come with sturdier covers for stability and Old testament/NT. Not so many separate books
I would choose the spiral bound. Like Becca, I’m usually curled up in a chair studying rather than at a table or desk.
I like the spiral bound❤
looking forward to the follow-up video
I like the original set for the same reasons Tim gave.
Spiral is pretty cool!
I like the concept of the spiral bound edition. However, I am a lefty. So….. there’s that.
😢
I think there are coils that are perfect for leftys that press down when you write. It's new so maybe research something like that?
Spiral Bound! ✌️😇
Too small! I love my ESV SpiralBound Journaling Bibles (8.5 x 11)
Love spiral Bibles.
I love the original set! In general, I'm not a fan of spiral-bound books. It just gets in the way for me.
Trying to decide if I'd like the larger 8 1/2 by 11 ESV spiral bound bibles or these smaller ones. Hmmmm......the larger one's are cheaper, but kinda partial to the smaller ones...
Good morning how much for the set
You could put charms on the top or bottom of the spiral to indicate what book it is like numbers or colors. I don't think they have the names of books of the bible as charms but who ever is the first to make them will be making some serious cash.
I just watched the video of the ESV Spiral-Bound Journaling Bible. What’s the difference between a scripture journal and a journaling Bible?
if both sets weren't so bloody expensive, i'd get the spiral-bound edition of the ESV Journaling Bible
Hear me out.....approximately 10% of people are left handed. I'm not one of them, but I can definitely see how frustrating this could be for our backward sisters and brothers. Maybe do a small run with the text on the right?
I wonder which set would be easier to add more paper. There's never enough paper to make notes on the Scriptures!
12 pt. Font??? Perfect for my bad eyes!
I would get the spiral bound
NASB 95 from 316 publishing are the best journals imo
Question: I'm looking for something just like this, however something much bigger with the whole bible but I wanted a spiral that I can insert extra blank pages for notes, or remove some as it grows. So something closer to the size of the larger journaling bible, but only on the left side like this one so I can insert note blank pages. Do you know of anyone that makes something like that?
Spiral-bound. Lays flat and I sit a table etc... SPIRAL!
Spiral is better for book-by-book Journaling. And even for sermon note-taking.
I just want crossway to do a 12-point text or more and 10-point study notes study bible. I don't mind if it's 15'x9.5' lol I don't mind the size. It's a study bible! The bigger the text, the better with my eyes. Older people like myself read a lot. Sorry, wrong video, but Im wishful thinking. heh
Do they have these available in KJV?
hey Tim, how can you tell the difference between a Pigskin leather bible vs a Calfskin leather bible? i ask because i recently got the CSB Study Bible in Brown Genuine Leather and i'm not really sure if it's Pigskin or Calfskin because it's super smooth but, i can feel what seems like grain lines and/or wrinkles in it. so, i'm not sure which one it is.
One of them oinks and the others moos!
Seems like you would have to send the Spiral off to rebind them into a book if you wanted to go spiral and then store them.
original all the way for the same reasons Tim explained
Spiral, sits more flat, can flip over, can hold book on lap, Yeah what your wife says. Please send me the extras if you don't need them lol.
Did you see that they just released a spiral version of the ESV journals now.
That's what these are!
as a lefty, spiral bound just doesn't work for me :(
I like these but I think the 8 1/2” X 11” spiral is more my thing.
I actually prefer the original as the spine is printed and the spiral doesn’t work on the book shelf.
Original 😊
Both
Im with Tim.... spiral seems good ,but too much flipping back and forth.
I like spiral better!
spiral girl - lefty btw 😂
I am left handed so I will pass.
These are beyond my pay grade.
Spiral. Easier to write on.
