Thanks. In my campaign, the PCs are about to enter underground tunnels made by Purple Worms which Troglodytes have evolved to inhabit. They worship a Behir which doesn’t eat them due to their stench and have developed a symbiotic relationship with it over time. I plan to minionize vast quantities of Troglodytes (MCDM Flee Mortals style) and either up the stench save or reduce the duration (10 minutes) - PCs are 11th level but it should be a fun encounter.
Ah yes, fair point. If the whole area reeks it makes senses. But most people would stay away from somewhere like that would be my thoughts. But adventurers aren't most people though, are they? Haha
Or since they are in the under dark, there are going to be many different kinds of smells. And I bet NONE are pleasant to smell. And lots of folks are not probably used to it, unless they live down there. And it's very rocky, cavernous. Full of all kinds of natural cover, plenty of opportunity to ambush. And the smell of them they may be used to, but it could also work as a "What is that awful fucking smell. John go check it out" John walks over to the smell and suddenly a few trog's come out and snatch John, beginning combat. And with the sounds of combat, surely it could bring more trogs. And they could swarm them. Or the idea of having the nearby area's of trog territory full of rotting remains and carcasses, along the walls. they could just lay in it and hide, awaiting any outsiders to come. And whilst busy, they could ambush there. Or hide in murky cesspools of gore and vicera. The scent of decay, rot and all of that is horrible. It's overpowering, especially the stench of feces and urine mixed in. And all of that is in a pretty closed in space/room. With no real naturally winds down there, the smell will not float away. Oh no, that will linger.. And the smell of it will cover any other smells, if you somehow smell how vile that is. It's easy to assume that most people will think "Oh great more decay and shit".
Granted Will just said the caves they dwell in have drafts, the draft is blowing in to the cave. That could also mean the scent of the hiding trogs could be masked with it. And before you could really smell it, due to the draft. They could be hiding nearby
I just started listening to your podcast on Spotify last week and I am hooked. Hope to start watching on RUclips soon. I have not been through all the content yet, have you or would you do an episode on playing 0 level commoners and leveling them up to level 1 PC's? Or is this such a stupid concept that shouldn't even be considered? Look forward to your thoughts.
Great video! I always like it when You do lesser know monsters! I always had a soft spot for these smelly bois!🦎 Also could you do grimlock and underdark humans sometime?
Can you please do a video on Blood hunters? My girlfriend wants to play them but we both find them confusing and you guys explain stuff so simple. I know you guys usually dont do homebrew stuff but it is pretty popular
how should I play troglodytes when players are lvl 5 and one has 22 passive perception :D kinda feels weird . . . lucky I never had to go that far :D as they only encountered 2 of them.
they're talking about my people!
Oh hey I think I saw one of you guys in my cave.
BROTHER! IT'S BEEN TOO LONG!

Just started watching your videos. How do you not have more subscriptions?
You have one more either way. Great content!
"Dyte means smells like shit" 😂 glad I subbed
How could troglodytes even ambush anyone? Unless they didn't have noses.
In their lair I'd say the whole thing stinks. Outside of their lair I'd say they'd have disadvantage on sneak.

I'd love a Sarrukh episode, or one on the creator races and the forgotten creator races like the Spellweavers
As a chronological watcher, I'm happy to say I'm half way there :D

That's canon now. No Old Spice in DnD. Or at least until someone plays the Old Spice Man.
