Ward is an all time character in NASCAR. Everybody seems to enjoy him.
Does anyone else remember years ago, when someone asked Ward Burton: "How come you & your brother speak entirely different?".........and Ward replied: "I was raised in the southern end of the house"..........LOL.
Howabouthetruth that’s awesome. I used to do the drivers different accents when my dad would rent a house for family vacations after we were older and I realized Ward barely moved his lips when he talked and was almost like a ventriloquist. (Thanks spellcheck)
@@rslattery3 LOL........cheers.
yes I do remember that. I thought it was funny as as hell.
I remembered something to that affect. I think I have misquoted it and said something like "Jeff was born in the north end of the house" lol I used to try to imitate "Ward Burton driver of the MBNA Pontiac"
@@howabouthetruth2157 funny thing is I had an old VHS about NASCAR (don't even remember what it was, probably 25 years ago when I last watched it as a kid) and they had Jeff Burton on there talking about the "Winston Racing Series" and he sounded much closer to Ward than he does now (or 20 years ago). *** Just realized this is coming from my daughters account.
Much respect for Jeff. You can tell he's a nice guy.
I met Ward at a water park near Greensboro with his family many years ago. It was a day or so before a race. We just sat and talked a few minutes. He was very cool, just a dad with his family.
I always liked Jeff Burton. Ward too. And I loved Jeff's answer as to how he and Ward grew up together, but spoke so differently. Jeff said that "Ward grew up in the southern side of the house."
You've gotta get Ward Burton on this thing.
How about jeb afterwards
You’d have to get a translator...
I can never decipher what that guy says..
@@joshuapittman4663 or subtitles right!?
@@larrypierson9732
I’m not entirely sure if you could have someone subtitle that. You’d probably need Ward to speak and Jeff to translate.
Yes, also about the Bristol race were Dale Jr ran Ward Burton into the wall and Ward waited for Dale Jr to go by threw his racing gloves at Dale Jr's window net as Dale Jr was going by on the caution lap!!
Well now they gotta get Ward on the show for his side. I bet it would be HILAWEOUS...
wafflenutz savage comment! 🤣🤣🤣
With subtitles. We make fun of him but it’s with love. He’s a good dude.
I was always a big Ward Burton fan. I remember watching his first Busch win and asking my dad what the hell he said in Victory Lane
@@soylentgreen7074 Ward's awesome, I think the world of him. Super nice guy. My Dad met him at Richmond in '02. Always pulled for him as an underdog.
I love hearing Ward Burton kick knowledge about anything.
It’s just a treat to hear him speak.
That’s a real 1 right there.
22 CATERPILLAR 🐛 looked so good with him driving it.
Really thought he’d Win a couple more races in that thing.
Burton Brother's making all of us in Virginia proud! Now we have a new generation coming up the ranks!
Thanks everyone at djd. 2 years ago dale retired and I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I lost interest in everything including nascar. A friend told me about the Hornaday interview and I had to listen. I watched Ron race at Orange show in so. cal . That show brought me back to Nascar and I've spent the past few weeks catching up on podcasts. Thank you for bringing me back. My bucket list is Daytona one time while I still can.
NASCAR's brother feud stories never get old
Ward Burton The,,,, "Boomhauer" of NASCAR,,,,
ya I miss his interviews as well........
This show is amazing. I have always loved junior as a driver, but he had really found a niche with these broadcast. I think it's an incredibly great thing for the sport to have a forum of drivers and others involved being interviewed with someone whos been there. Keep it up. This is awesome!
Steve Howard agreed Jrs passion for racing shows much more on these platforms than in a car on a track.
Remember Jeff and Jeff racing for the win in the 97 Southern 500 with the "Winston Million" on the line?🏁😀
No Bull contests were my favorite as a kid because they'd paint the spoilers and bottom front bumper skirts bright orange, it looked fast haha
We all want Ward on the show.
“Cat skid stee loada”. Love ward.
First time I heard that conversation I couldn't stop laughing for like an hour
Thomas yeah it’s pretty funny.
Go see that f***ing guy over there
nascarfan88ta f***ing guy, that’s all one word?
Oh Hell yeah ❗ John Boy and Billy! Them's was Good Times. It made driving on I~4 in Orlando every morning bearable. Hell! I won a pair of Georgia Boots one morning. They put me on the air and I had a pleasant talk with Jackie!
Those 2 brothers have more class then all of Nascar today
Love to see a Sterling Marlin interview while Sterling is able.
Earl Beville Me to Earl, back in the day I got plastered with Coo Coo Sterlings dad talking raceing &all kind of stuff I sincerely cherish his autograph-but it was after Sterling’s back to back wins at Daytona in 95 when I was a contractor at Saturn auto motive plant in Columbia TN...
I would say he's gotten a call from this show, might of passed.
Carl Long would make a GREAT guest! Dude has fought and scrapped for everything!
Ward burton is one of my all time favorites
You need to get Ward on there too! I used to turn the tv up really loud whenever Ward had an interview during a race broadcast lol
LOVED this! Especially the Gordon Texas wreck stuff. So honest. Jeff Burton is such a cool guy. And Jr. Is becoming a hell of an interviewer! Great stuff guys. Keep it comin please.
Robert Slattery, he's brilliant. Just asks a simple question and sits back, lets the guest speak. Most talk show hosts are too fond of their own voices and ideas.
Get Ward on the show!
It's always entertaining to hear Ward talk, I can't understand but every 5th word, still entertaining, I can understand Jeff
I live one town over from where Ward and Jeff grew up and a lot of people around here talk like Ward way more than Jeff. Lol. The sign welcoming you to the little town they are from says 'Welcome to South Boston. Home of Ward Burton!'
That’s a guy I’d like to hang out with. Class act, tough when he needed to be but not a dirty driver.
Who I'd rather have in the booth calling a NASCAR race:
Jeff
That has nothing to do with commentating a race
Jeff is the only one who won a title on a short track in late model and he also won a lot more races than Ward in late model as well. Record books at South Boston and Orange County reflect that. Jeff also actually for a long time ( and still might ) held record at Orange County for youngest late model champion in track history. He was 21 I think.
Wood Bruthas
Yup.
I love listening to Ward Burton.
OG
Jerry Tame
You’re right but I agree with him about Wars on the part that I love hearing Ward kick knowledge.
Sounds like a bayou boy but aren’t they from Virginia?
@@CSDonohue11 Ward still lives here in South Boston.
Jeff Gordon he gives the impression I'm better than you. Jeff and Ward Burton both give the impression I'm the same as you. I seriously love it when Junior has the older retired drivers love their stories. please keep them coming
Gordon does give that vibe, but I know people who have met or raced against him. Who said he actually super nice and loved to talk about racing. Me being a Earnhardt Sr fan. I wanted him to be a prick lol
Well, Gordon was better than most. lolz
This is great stuff
Love the Burton's
100% awesomeness
I freakin love the Burtons
I'm sure Ward's Daytona 500 win makes up for all of this.
@@daviclar867 Jeff has more wins but half of Jeff's career was when it got rejuvenated at RCR. Jeff has some Southern 500s, but Ward has the Daytona 500.
AlexMacIsKING Jeff led al the laps at New Hampshire; finished 3rd in points in 2000 with Roush
@@chaselewis100 Jeff had 15 of his 21 Cup wins and ranked in the Top 5 in points for four straight years during his tenure at Roush Fenway Racing; 4th in 1997, 5th in 1998 and 1999, and 3rd in 2000.
@@Alex_Mac_ 15 wins came from Roush, the other 6 from RCR.
17/21 were roush NOT 15 and definitely not the most lmao...wow
Jeff Burton... always my all time favorite driver!
Looking forward to seeing the entire episode!
The Mayor of the Garage, Mr. Jeff Burton. Always liked him and he always seemed to be everybody's second favorite driver.
Dale's program is very interesting. It allows us to see and hear things that the media have slanted, or at best, guessed about incidents that occurred in the past. Noteworthy incidents. The major difference is that we are hearing from the actual people involved. So it allows everyone to see the unveiled accounting of everything and everyone involved. This story in particular for me, is quite large. The way the media painted, not just Jeff, the Burton brothers made me anything but a fan. After hearing this single program, I'm honestly sorry that I didn't pay more attention to both of them. You see them in a whole different light.
Funny story. 11 years ago, I was a server at the coolest Cafe (now closed, sadly) in Huntersville. My first Saturday afternoon there, a familiar face was sitting at table 8. It was Jeff Burton & a woman and a couple of kids (which was his lovely wife & their children). I was a Nascar junkie (so to speak) since 1987. Ward was in my top 5 faves! I was nervous so, goofy me said all the welcomes, specials & blurted out, "How's Ward??" 🤪 I felt a chill in the air. I took their order and they ended up being friendly & great regular customers. I was hoping he'd bring Ward in. He didn't. Lol
Catskeesterloada-Ward Burton
I’ve always liked the Burton brothers
I loved Ward, my kinda guy, love you both, but he's my fave,
Love listening to Ward& Jeff
Thank you RUclips for putting this in my recommenced. This is awesome . Looking forward to watching the other videos posted in the channel. I am so glad I found this.
Im loving these!!!! So much history!💚💚
Jeff became my favorite driver when he was driving the 9 car and Jack Roush came calling and Jeff said he had already told Bobby Allison he would be back next year. Loyalty is so rare in racing but I was really impressed!
Who remembers the Bristol race when Ward threw a head accessory at Dale Jr's car when he was circling back around during a caution lap? During the replay, there was a view of the in car cam of Junior encouraging him to throw it by gesturing "c'mon" with his hand. When they interviewed Ward, he said "I wish I wish I would've had something else shot through the window." It was so funny because he sounded so much like Boomhauer from King of the Hill, even the commentators were giggling.
I remember him throwing his heel protectors at Jr. I thought it was hilarious. Then came the interview and it was even funnier. Good ole Ward was a character. We don't have those types anymore. Clint Bowyer tries too hard and is a little cringe imo.
That's my gen, luv the Burton boy's, Wad"s awesome, remember jeff's and Jeff's rivalry, seems like yesterday, great guys
Love this interview. I really always liked Jeff Burton. And now I respect him even more. We need more of him. I suspect Truex is probably ‘that guy’ these days. A clean racer, a clean mouth, and living by convictions not by knee jerks. I appreciate this guy and what he stand for:
Great interview....
Jeff Burton is a class act.
I like his honesty
this is the best thing on youtube right now
Thanks for this Jr!
Always been a huge fan of the Burton bros. Used to joke with my friends that the accent difference they had was because Jeff must have grown up in the further north side of the house, and Ward in the further south portion of the house!
love this guy
Great video!
Orange County Speedway is still open. Barely. A historic track with great racing. SOBO is just up the road with tremendous contests too. They got a truck date recently, I think. The Burton Family is indeed, legendary. The Sadlers as well.
Oh man,JR you got to make that happen it would be great to see Jeff race his kid.
Nascar is great and love it decade after decade since the 80's
GREAT podcast Jr!
Always enjoy ur show!
Very entertaining 😂 & educational! My daily Jr fix...
I always liked the Burton Brothers
Love all the stories thanks for all the great clips during all this corona virus crap!
Love the Burton brothers. Somewhere there is an outtake collection when Ward is recording a commercial for Caterpillar. They kept trying to get Ward to say "Caterpillar" a little differently. It's pretty funny.
Watched them race against each other from Orange County, South Boston, Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway. Great, great racing.
Jeff burton never was like ny favorite driver but when he left i realized how much me added to the races get in a Xfinity car MAN
My Wife absolutely loves hearing Ward talk, so do I, but she will actually watch any time that Ward is being interviewed 🥰 LOL, I sincerely hope that when Dale Jr had him on (I haven't seen that DjrD episode yet) they talk about the "I wish I had sumpn to shoot thru the window" incident, if they did talk about it, I can't wait to watch it! 🙏
Love the Burton Bros. But Ward one up on Jeff with the Daytona 500 win. :)
let me know when Ward wins a race and leads every single lap of said race. many 500 winners not many winners that lead every lap.
I consider them about equal honestly. Jeff did have the longer career, more wins, and had periods of time when he was a legit championship contender, but he also drove for some real strong teams especially at Roush and to a lesser extent, RCR and even had some occasional strong runs when he started out with Stavola. Ward didn't have nearly as much success but he also drove for mostly average/below average Cup teams. That he won 5 races, including a Daytona 500 and a Southern 500 and had a couple top 10 points finishes driving what was usually garbage Bill Davis Racing equipment that he propped up for a long time, and even worse when he drove the #0 in '04 and then Morgan-McClure when that team was on literal life support says a lot about his talent. I always felt if Ward had a ride equal to his brother, they would be right there with Texas Terry and Bobby Labonte, Bobby and Donnie Allison and (roll of the eyes) Outlaw and Rowdy Busch (among others) as some of the best brothers to race I the Cup Series, even if neither ended up winning a championship.
I miss jeff Burton racing I liked watching him
I have always enjoyed Jeff B in a race car. Well spoken and nice guy. Jeff Gordon also!
i was right with you till you said gordon also then you lost me.
Yeah the Jeff Gordon run in and fight on the back stretch was a tough one to watch knowing that Jeff Burton was not a dirty racer and definitely wouldnt have wrecked him under cautiion on purpose. Always loved watching the Burton brothers race for sure.
I always laughed that they both got in the same ambulance, it’s fun to hear the story
Time to get Ward on here. :)
Nice when a guy has a conscious, good man Jeff B
i love jeff burton #31 CAT, Cheerios, wheaties, Hamburger Helper, and BB&T
That's the first time I heard him talk about the Gordon situation, he might have before but that's the first interview I've heard him talk about it in detail.
Same here and always wondered what took place inside that ambulance.
Same! I always wanted to know bcuz Burton was my driver and that incident was so out of character for him.
I had the pleasure of racing karts against all three of the Burton brothers, Ward, Brian and Jeff. And Jeff is correct, in Southside Virginia Ward and Jeff where always being compared. Because of that I'm not gonna give my opinion on who was the better driver.... But I will say the most talented was Brian.... just my Opinion 😉
Do another one Dale, that wasn't enough
Wait, Ward started racing with Carl Long? What kind of universe is this?
I remember that Texas showdown 💥 Gordon hit hard
Just realized...CAT sponsored ward then several yr later CAT sponsored Jeff...hmmmmm
I love listening to both the Burton Bro’s kick some knowledge.
I really enjoy listening to Ward.
So country you have to love it. Lots
Sounds like a bayou boy but aren’t they Virginians?
Jeff pleassssssse run just one more race! Come on man you won't regret it
My dad who's name is also Jeff Burton stayed at a hotel in Virgina and ordered as Jeff burton and 4 workers from pizza hut brought his pizza and a bunch of extra boxes to sign only to find out he wasn't this jeff burton but they still had him sign them anyways lmao
Love the show you guys put on a great show every week you guys have a good guest I had a question for Dale jr could I send one of my diecast to you and get it signed or how would that work
Mom stepped in and said .... Umm NO! Not having this! LMAO!
Mom for the WIN!
I remember after a race Dale Jr. drops his net and had his arm out the side window. Jeff came up and doored Jr. lucky dale moved his arm.
Anyone remember Jeff leading every lap at New Hampshire?
I do! I didn’t see it live as a kid but I always read about it. Eventually did see it.
Nice hat, Mike!
I'm a #1 ward burton fan. Ol ward ,earnhardt sr. Said Ol ward would drive it off in the corners .
Yeah I'd love to see Ward on the show, but junior may need to wear a helmet.
LOL i was at that texas race and rooting for Burton to win that fight
Hey Jr, could you possibly get the Busch Brothers on to discuss the run-ins throughout their racing careers? That'd make for major viewership!
2010 AAA Texas 500. The playoff field was 12 at the time. To answer Burton's question on the whole fiasco with Jeff Gordon.
I always thought Jeff Burton was boring and this didn’t do anything to change my opinion.
Nice hat in this video,Mike.RTR.
Yeah Jr likes to get his guests to tell the stories that tell their history in the sport if not the history of Nascar at times cause not only does he like them but he knows his audience will to
As I was about to say Jr seems to know how to get his guests to tell him the stories that he and Mike will enjoy and that his audience will enjoy too about their history in the sport which sometimes can be the history of Nascar
this dude reminds me of Spence from King of Queens if he were from the south...and cool
Lol 😂I can see that
Dale Jr i added you on Iracing hope we can race together some day
Should have used the Thunderbird Track Gear car and a #8 Raybestos car.
Miss them wood button interviews
I thought the Jeff and Jeff "fight" looked like two power ranger action figures having at it.
I’m curious about any dale sr memories Jeff Burton has of any on or off track encounters.
I'll try to tell you a story the best I can remember hearing Jeff tell it once. Back before the lucky dog was introduced in NASCAR and they still raced back to the flag under caution it was common practice for the leader to "checkup" some going to the flag if a teammate was near so the teammate could make up a lap. I mean, if a contender was a lap down you tried to keep him there but it was really the leaders call on who he let go by.
So in one of these type situations Burton was trying to get around Dale a couple of times and Earnhardt shut the door on him by driving hard back to the flag. After the race Jeff talked to Dale about it and Earnhardt gave him one of those big grins we all remember and told Jeff "now Jeff, when I'm racing I have to do what's best for me and not what's best for you. In this case keeping you a lap down was best for me". Of course Jeff understood with no hard feelings.
Fate would have it that no long after that was the race that Burton led every lap. I remember very clearly that Earnhardt started bad and got an early lap down. His crew made some adjustments and suddenly it looked like Earnhardt had the second best car but he remained a lap down. There were caution flags and Earnhardt multiple times lined beside Burton to try and get the lap back and Jeff held him off each time. A few times, the caution came out out and Burton had to race hard back to the line to hold Dale off. Once after another dash to the flag, Dale let know Jeff know he was getting steamed and side swiped Jeff's car in a way that just caused cosmetic damage to his car but didn't hurt it's performance in any way.
Still Jeff never let Earnhardt make his lap up and is the last driver to lead every single lap of a NASCAR race. Afterwards, it was Earnhardt who was giving Burton a hard time about not letting him around. After Dale went on for awhile finally Jeff said "Now Dale, when I'm racing I have to do what's best for me and not what is best for you'" Before Jeff got the whole sentence out Earnhardt was smiling at him. He knew his own advice had come back to bite him for once. Afterwards, Jeff said he felt like he belonged more then ever then because he had earned Earnhardt's respect which wasn't always easy to do.
❤️
Ward " Older but faster!"
i really like mikes hat
