      Here it just looks like Dio murdered him in cold blood and Jonathan stabbed him because he didn't wanna go down without a fight.

      It's funny that a new viewer won't have any context for this scene. That's basically the boat I was in, where I was introduced by footage of the GW game that never came Stateside. Intrigued, I decided to look up the series, found out there was an anime (among SEVERAL other products) (at the time, the only adaptation was both OVA's), and was patently confused by the initial setting of the first, and this intro when I moved to the second. I did more research, realized the OVA's adapted the third Part, with a film for the first Part coming soon (which also never left Japan), tracked down the first Part scans, and the rest is history.

      Jojo is essentially a serious psycho-horror fantasy.
      What the author araki wanted to do was to make a comic that was based on a horror movie and combined it with action, not gags as such.
      This OVA is a good representation of the essence of Jojo, and I heard that araki praised it very much.

    • @saidi7975
      @saidi7975 2 года назад

      @Jotaro97 Oh trust me, I am one of those that actually prefer the Part 3 OVA over the manga for quite a few reasons.
      Going by the manga, I've found out that Part 1 and 2 easily had the most consistent tones and the least amount of filler as the story unfolds (and yes, I am including all 6 parts). People deride the hamon section, but, young Araki for my money had better story direction/atmosphere sense than old Araki.
      Phantom Blood was bleak as hell gothic horror YET had the few wholesome moments to justify Jonathan's hopeful disposition.
      Battle Tendency is mostly upbeat and adventurous pulp/exotic romp YET the heartfelt moments do ground the story and Joseph as a character.
      Stardust Crusaders ? Errr... humor is really uneven. Rereading it anew, there are some "har har" moments that just do not cut it (and the damn poop jokes...). THIS is the reason as to why I prefer the OVA. They basically took Phantom Blood's gloomy horror and grafted it upon Stardust Crusaders. It becomes a genuinely dangerous road trip featuring the return of the worst granduncle ever ! I find Jotaro more appealing in the OVA (and feeling more as the main player/JoJo of it rather than just a group member...), the darker atmosphere doing wonders for him by the way, which rings true for his later years... I could also take Polnareff more seriously since he is not devolved to a load for the group (the manga kinda overdid that !).
      But the main prize for me is DIO, who is vastly improved by the OVA ! He is presented less as the final boss of the game/ a dragon to slay, as he is in the manga, and more as the horror monster that plagued Jonathan back in Part 1 (people mention Za Warudo and all, but to me, the young Dio Brando was not only a character but the vilest of the vile with the best enimity in this series! And without THAT, Part 3 DIO would nowhere near be as effective !).
      In fact, the Jonathan references are done better in both animes than in the manga, where I feel Araki could have made DIO even more unsettling/sickening by keeping JoJo's skull around since the fucker is basically desecrating JoJo's corpse 24/7. Missed oportunity there that the OVA somewhat fixes ... I do love the fact that he interacts more with the group in the OVA before chasing them, to display his dominance, vileness and more personal grudge with the Joestars unlike the manga's generic "OH NO! His evil aura is here ! BAIL !". And THAT final fight ? GLORIOUS and CATHARTIC !
      My complaint ? 4 more episodes would be nice ! Especially Death 13 and Pet Shop, those can be more nightmarish with the OVA treatment...

    Even though the 90s set of OVAs and the 00s set have different openings, they both depict scenes from Part 1, there is some imagery of the Stone Mask though it isn't featured or even mentioned during Part 3, and even during one scene Jotaro has a flashback of yet another scene from Part 1 for no aparent reason. With this fascination A.P.P.P. seems to have with Part 1, it surprises me that they decided to adapt Part 3 and never tried anything with Part 1...

      @inendlesspain4724 7 лет назад +35

      Yes, I've already heard all of that and more, but really I can't be too mad with this movie's existence because:
      A) I haven't watched it and I don't like to judge things I haven't experienced first hand.
      B) I've also heard one of this film's producers died during production and his family withdrew all his money that was destined to this project, so they could either rush it or cancel the whole thing altogether. I can't help but admire that they refused to give up despite all the odds being against them.
      I think an actually well-made Phantom Blood movie/ series of OVAs (I think the latter would work better for this case) with this serious and gritty style would be awesome, because really this style doesn't fit Part 3 at all since in the original manga it really doesn't take itself seriously most of the time, but Part 1 does and that's why I think it's really a shame it turned out so bad it got lost.

      Well to be frank, Jojo always had a horror vibe to it. Part 1 itself is much less Shonen than it is a Gothic tragedy. Part 2's pillar men way of eating is gruesome and in part 3 the best battles tend to work with the rhythm of a slasher scene or a pursuit...

    Yeah this has more of a horror feel to it than the PB manga. Dio just mercilessly attacks Jonathan with his tendrils and tries to rip off his head even while Jonathan is still conscious. In the manga (and David Pro Anime) Dio wanted to kill Jonathan in the most painless way possible before he took over his body. He even gets mad at Wang Chan for suggesting they torture Jonathan and gets upset at Jonathan for prolonging his own death and adding to his own suffering.
    I get why the OVA did it this way, because this isn't a Phantom Blood centered OVA and they wanted to portray Dio as this terrifying Cronenberg monster. His relationship with Jonathan doesn't much matter in Stardust Crusader as much as him body snatching Jonathan and how that sets in motion the events in the story.

    While I agree with people that the ova doesn't come close to the David's Production, it does a damn good job on its own.
    Where David's Production is a faithful reproduction of the manga, the OVA scraps a lot of special JoJo sauce to make something epic. The same story with a different coat of paint, opting more for a "show not tell" as opposed to the in a charecter's mind format of the manga and David's.
    I think that also lends it to have more flowing and actiony shots compared to the David's Production, opting to instead keep an action packed pace rather than the slowburn badassery of the David's.
    All I'm saying is if we got a full JoJo anime in the style of the this instead of David's Production, I wouldn't be too mad.

      80s? JJBA never had an anime in the 80s. That was the manga. The oavs (1st anime for JJBA) started at early 90s. Btw if you wanted to say 80s animes in general, say "animes" not anime. Peace out.

    Same strength.....debatable, powers yes, though Dio had the ability to freeze anyone, and anything he touched affectingly nullifying the ripple, and killing them possibly with just a single touch. Im not sure why he didnt still have that power 100 years later though, but maybe the lose of his original body had something to do with it......

    Im almost positive he lost he's ice powers after losing he's body, but Im not sure at all about the eye laser thing. He kept he's other abilities though, eternal youth, super strength, and high speed regeneration. All of which as strong as 100 years prier. Though comparing them both....minus time stop about even VS non ripple users.
    Though joseph pre post mouths training stood no chance against Dios ice powers .....unless he could conjured up flames as well somehow.

      Xdo12 DIO simply valued his stand too much, even with his caution and planning. The way he describes The World, it's as if the greatest thing in his life happened to him. As for Joseph, it makes perfect sense that he would be worse over the decades since BT. Even if he was at the level he was at the start of BT, it wouldn't be enough. Joseph may have been born with Hamon ability, but he had no control over power, he just knew practical applications of it. After BT, not only did he have to recover from his various injuries, he also took to maintaining a career and a family. Considering those factors, along with Joseph's own laziness, it's not hard to imagine that he gave up Hamon altogether. Even then, the effects are still visible in his build and health even at 65. However, his hamon power severely diminished. You say nerf as if he could do it all, which he can't.

    • @KaiserShield
      @KaiserShield 2 года назад

      @Jotaro97 Possibly, but my opinion has changed since then and either he just never thought to use it, or he just didn't bother because said abilitys while powerful are.......completely useless against stands.

    • @saidi7975
      @saidi7975 2 года назад

      @@KaiserShield Actually, his vampiric powers would've been more than welcome in concert with his stand ! Flash Freeze + Time Stop and BAM, victory achieved. Hell, see how effective his regeneration was back in Part 1 ! If DIO still had that against Jotaro, all he'd need to do is inject him with his vampiric essence after tanking a few punches. But seeing whose body he chose to parasite, he kinda sabotaged himself...

    • @KaiserShield
      @KaiserShield 2 года назад

      I mean, why bother with that combo when Dio could just punch their guts in? Either with his own vampiric strength or stand even.
      Now MAYBE his eye laser would have been a decent surprise/ranged atk, but even Joseph could react to that easy enough and without a stand even.
