Yes, I've already heard all of that and more, but really I can't be too mad with this movie's existence because: A) I haven't watched it and I don't like to judge things I haven't experienced first hand. B) I've also heard one of this film's producers died during production and his family withdrew all his money that was destined to this project, so they could either rush it or cancel the whole thing altogether. I can't help but admire that they refused to give up despite all the odds being against them. I think an actually well-made Phantom Blood movie/ series of OVAs (I think the latter would work better for this case) with this serious and gritty style would be awesome, because really this style doesn't fit Part 3 at all since in the original manga it really doesn't take itself seriously most of the time, but Part 1 does and that's why I think it's really a shame it turned out so bad it got lost.
Well to be frank, Jojo always had a horror vibe to it. Part 1 itself is much less Shonen than it is a Gothic tragedy. Part 2's pillar men way of eating is gruesome and in part 3 the best battles tend to work with the rhythm of a slasher scene or a pursuit...

Brandon Tam But if you look at the arms holding the glass cage where Dio's head is (and more importantly if you read the manga or watched the 2012 anime lol) you'll know that it's Wang Chung holding the glass cage.
Wang Chan had paid some guys to put Dio's coffin on the ship with his head inside. In the manga and anime Jonathan used the last of his hamon to kill Wang Chan and cause his body to disrupt the engine of the ship and blow it up.
If you read Phantom Blood, it's because during the straggle between Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando, the last one lost his head because of the power of the ripple (or Hamon).
Yeah this has more of a horror feel to it than the PB manga. Dio just mercilessly attacks Jonathan with his tendrils and tries to rip off his head even while Jonathan is still conscious. In the manga (and David Pro Anime) Dio wanted to kill Jonathan in the most painless way possible before he took over his body. He even gets mad at Wang Chan for suggesting they torture Jonathan and gets upset at Jonathan for prolonging his own death and adding to his own suffering. I get why the OVA did it this way, because this isn't a Phantom Blood centered OVA and they wanted to portray Dio as this terrifying Cronenberg monster. His relationship with Jonathan doesn't much matter in Stardust Crusader as much as him body snatching Jonathan and how that sets in motion the events in the story.
is it just me or the fact that we barely get to see Jonathan’s face is disturbing, like I don’t know why but the fact that we don’t get to see his face gives me the chills
While I agree with people that the ova doesn't come close to the David's Production, it does a damn good job on its own. Where David's Production is a faithful reproduction of the manga, the OVA scraps a lot of special JoJo sauce to make something epic. The same story with a different coat of paint, opting more for a "show not tell" as opposed to the in a charecter's mind format of the manga and David's. I think that also lends it to have more flowing and actiony shots compared to the David's Production, opting to instead keep an action packed pace rather than the slowburn badassery of the David's. All I'm saying is if we got a full JoJo anime in the style of the this instead of David's Production, I wouldn't be too mad.
De hecho solo se ve de forma borrosa que una vez Jonathan muere, Dio cae sobre sus rodillas y ahi dan a entender que antes de que el fuego llegara uso sus ultimas fuerzas para cometer tal acto.
80s? JJBA never had an anime in the 80s. That was the manga. The oavs (1st anime for JJBA) started at early 90s. Btw if you wanted to say 80s animes in general, say "animes" not anime. Peace out.
Great animation wasted on a mediocre adaptation, a shame. I actually liked the effect made for Za Warudo in the 1990s OVA. Probably one of the bright spots of the OVA.
Same strength.....debatable, powers yes, though Dio had the ability to freeze anyone, and anything he touched affectingly nullifying the ripple, and killing them possibly with just a single touch. Im not sure why he didnt still have that power 100 years later though, but maybe the lose of his original body had something to do with it......
When Dio was fighting Jotaro he realized how better was fight a gentleman... But when he realized it, it was too late, 100 years late, to be more specific...
When I saw this in first time in my life, as a kid, I thought that Jonathan Holden Dio and give himself to him. But I didn’t read the manga I just watch the Ova... It was really great art style back the days!
Im almost positive he lost he's ice powers after losing he's body, but Im not sure at all about the eye laser thing. He kept he's other abilities though, eternal youth, super strength, and high speed regeneration. All of which as strong as 100 years prier. Though comparing them both....minus time stop about even VS non ripple users. Though joseph pre post mouths training stood no chance against Dios ice powers .....unless he could conjured up flames as well somehow.
Xdo12 DIO simply valued his stand too much, even with his caution and planning. The way he describes The World, it's as if the greatest thing in his life happened to him. As for Joseph, it makes perfect sense that he would be worse over the decades since BT. Even if he was at the level he was at the start of BT, it wouldn't be enough. Joseph may have been born with Hamon ability, but he had no control over power, he just knew practical applications of it. After BT, not only did he have to recover from his various injuries, he also took to maintaining a career and a family. Considering those factors, along with Joseph's own laziness, it's not hard to imagine that he gave up Hamon altogether. Even then, the effects are still visible in his build and health even at 65. However, his hamon power severely diminished. You say nerf as if he could do it all, which he can't.
@Jotaro97 Possibly, but my opinion has changed since then and either he just never thought to use it, or he just didn't bother because said abilitys while powerful are.......completely useless against stands.
@@KaiserShield Actually, his vampiric powers would've been more than welcome in concert with his stand ! Flash Freeze + Time Stop and BAM, victory achieved. Hell, see how effective his regeneration was back in Part 1 ! If DIO still had that against Jotaro, all he'd need to do is inject him with his vampiric essence after tanking a few punches. But seeing whose body he chose to parasite, he kinda sabotaged himself...
I mean, why bother with that combo when Dio could just punch their guts in? Either with his own vampiric strength or stand even. Now MAYBE his eye laser would have been a decent surprise/ranged atk, but even Joseph could react to that easy enough and without a stand even.
Everybody talking about how DIO dropping an oil tanker instead of a roll roller is still silly but nobody talking about how they didn't even bother to change the scene of Star Platinum sucking an old lady's ghost.
Maybe...but Joseph didnt need any training to beat that vampire in the manga...and when he actualy got some training...well...he was able to beat up the crap out of those pilar dudes(still he kicked the crap out of one of those with no training at all), and a bunch of vampires.

1:40 an epic villian needs an epic introduction.
It's A lot Darker Than The Anime
is it just me or the fact that we barely get to see Jonathan’s face is disturbing, like I don’t know why but the fact that we don’t get to see his face gives me the chills
Someone ought to remake this with bits of the Phantom Blood anime
I guess I'll make it
Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!
Its actually cool how it shows the death scene instead of a normal explosion but this time its way more brutal
I like this version of Jonathan’s death more than the DP version. It feels more impactful, like he really fought to the end.
Actually, this is the atmosphere I had in mind while reading Part 1; oppressing, bleak and unforgiving...
DP?
@@connorlee3704 David Productions, the studio who made the anime
Man... I love this music
Man this is easily the best animated titanic movie since they actually show what happened
This was how I was introduced to jojo
Pedazo de intro, lo mejor siempre es lo old school, no todos logran ver lo bueno
2:23
This is why I don't like showing my neck openly that much.
You can feel the intensity in the air dude.
We Can Just Think Whe This is Just Epic?
Me hubiera encantado que adaptaran todo jojo en los 90s y 2000s estaria de poca madre los diseños
"Jonathan and Dio, the ultimate combo"
Jonathan didn't go down without a fight.
小さい頃ここ長いなぁ…と思いながら見てた
Holy Diver,
You've been down too long in the midnight sea.
Oh are you approaching meeee.... Wait! I mean: Oh what's becoming of me...
The ending bit is just the Doom theme.
Jonathan could have won as well though Dios new technique caught him off guard.
ScreeGdbz is an Artist that does the OVA Artstyle on Deviantart
Jonathan Son George Joestar He Died This Is Sad.
This means it's cannon
For those who understand the joke i very appreciated it
Started watching the ova the other day thought the opening was badass
its a bit terrifying to see the protagonist die like this
Down in the Midnight Sea... something has slept for far too long...
this style is scary
Legend
Ova: dark
Modern: IM JUST JOKING JOJO
Man this is the coolest
MUCH BETTER THAN IN THE ANIME, THIS IS REAL GOOD ANIMATION! Sadly, you´ll always find filler scenes in 90s animes and in this case early 2000s.
OrochiLeona 80s anime too. it was much more detailed
Can't agree more.
OrochiLeona the ova is really bad anime in 1993 is very poor
Dio is a horror movie villan
Honestly, that is where he shines !
I like how the Steamboats looks like a Man O War in a few shots.
No, He had It... He kicked kakyoin to the water Tank
Well he wasn't at a 100% so maybe he couldn't use his full vampire powers
Fun fact: This is the first adaptation of "Phantom Blood" scenes before the 2007 film and 2012 TV series.
ジョナサンの色気がヤバイ
The guitar riff towards the end reminds me of "At Doom's Gate".
Before I got into jojo I watched this ova and didn’t realise until now lol
Phantom Blood was animated before Part III if you think about it.

Greatest anime op of all time
I think this is the most longest opening
part ? ova op : taking jonathan body.
part 1 david production : SONO CHINO SADAME!
Is it just me or is it that Jonathan looks more attractive in the ova?
Hayama's Jonathan is his best look far as I'm concerned...
im having war flashbacks
Everybody talking about how DIO dropping an oil tanker instead of a roll roller is still silly but nobody talking about how they didn't even bother to change the scene of Star Platinum sucking an old lady's ghost.
Terrifying
Sad fact: The original JoJo was more brutal than the new one... We all lost access...
Give a RIP in the chat if you people agree...
Well you have to see the uncen version of modern jojo
RIP
I wonder how Dio stole Jonathan's body
This one scene is more packed with actual animation than the official Jojo anime
1:56 Dio kind of looks like Sting
What's the music called?
Just imagine headless Jonathan
You mean bodyless
Still searching for the Aztec one!
Someones know the name of the song in the Jonathan VS dio scene?
Maybe...but Joseph didnt need any training to beat that vampire in the manga...and when he actualy got some training...well...he was able to beat up the crap out of those pilar dudes(still he kicked the crap out of one of those with no training at all), and a bunch of vampires.
This explain the end and how jonathan died
Me huviera gustado que huvieran animado una parte endonde Dio le se logra poner en el cuerpo de Jonathan y luego lo mata para quedarse con el cuerpo
This is the best opening in the entire franchise
1:50 why didn't the new anime have this scene!
2:15
This scene is so horrific though
Who, actually, enjoys this more then stand proud and end of the world
Jonathan noooooooooooo :"v

The music that plays in this sequence is awesome!
I search for the soundtrack to the Jojo OVA but couldn't find this tune.
Anyone know the name of it?
If u want it,copy the link,go to a website known as ytmp3,paste the link, and download. Enjoy
I want the process of dio cutting Jonathan's heal and getting on his body
why does this give 90s indian movies vibes
Does anyone know where the other ova intro is? I cant find it
A woman's bare breasts are visible in it so I doubt it can stay on RUclips for too long without an age restriction, if at all.
Anyway, here it is:

Thanks! I was starting to think I imagined the whole thing
