Dr Ambedkar realised that the liberation of Dalits cannot be achieved without their being part of the political process. To facilitate this, he floated a political party and entered the Bombay legislative council.
This gave him an opportunity to pilot many progressive legislations in the areas of maternity leave, working hours of factory workers and abolition of the ‘Khoti’ system, whereby land ownership could be vested with the tiller. Participation in the legislative forum along with the growth of his political party enabled him to unite Dalits on a pan-India basis and he earned stature as the national leader of Dalits.
When the British began the process of transferring power to the people of India, the Simon Commission was sent to decide on the course of transfer and formation of local self-government. Dr Ambedkar seized this opportunity by linking Dalit liberation with the liberation of the country from British rule. He put forward the demands of the Dalits before the Simon commission and afterwards, in the first roundtable conference as well, where he made a strong plea for making the independence of the country and the liberation of Dalits from slavery a simultaneous process.

Great human being.Babasaheb,s fearless speech is remarkable.Rare are people born who are born to clean religion.As clothes are to be washed often ,when they become dirty.So also religious beliefs and ideas are to be washed ,altered and repaired oftenly.
