I use 1mm thread to sharpen my #0 rounded edger and then I use the edges of different thicknesses of leather, all covered with 14,000 grit Diamond compound to strop my other edge bevellers. Puts a mirror polish on the edges. I use 1200 grit wet/dry sandpaper for the initial edge bevel and haven't needed to do it again since I started using diamond compound. Diamond is just so aggressive it just takes a couple of strops every time I pick one up.

If you have a hobby lobby around they only sell a number 3 which is more like a number 1 takes a very small amount off

Jo can you please tell me, do you have a standard size punch for your dog collars?
I'm finding it almost impossible to locate a 3 mm edger. Where did you purchase your 3mm edger/skiver?
    Thank you

Heya, not too sure what you mean by punch size, if you mean the hole the buckle goes in then it depends on the buckle tongue size which varies between styles and widths. My 3mm hollow edge tool I got years ago from Joseph Dixon's. Have a look at Abbey England and George Barnsley & Sons.
