been listening to this band since i was 11, and 16 years later they're still one of my top 3 bands. Saw them at the Amnesia Rockfest in 2016 in Quebec, and it has by far been the best live show ive ever had the pleasure of witnessing.
I remember I was in high school when Try Honesty and then River Below came out, and it was so different from the music I was used to listen on MuchMusic. At first I was like "the hell? I can't with this screaming!" and then I listen to Nothing to Lose and it all changed. I took the time to really hear and listen to their songs and by the time Billy Talent II came out, I was a fan. Fast foward almost 15 years later, and now both my little brothers are fans and we've been to multiple BT shows and it's a beautiful love story. What an amazing band.
Just layin here, on a rig in AB, wakin up about to throw coffee on before the graveyard shift and this conversation between you and the band has elevated my blood temperature into pandemic levels that might get me sent home early. I’m amped. Jazzed even. Heck... could I be motivated to start a band again? I’m nearly 38!! (And yes I HAVE kissed a girl) but this decade ahead is surely going to be a LIVE & LOUD and ELECTRIC one and Billy Talent (and you, Strombo!!) are going to play a huge role in it. Thank you and Keep working.
One day I'll be crediting bands like Billy Talent, Single Mothers and Violent Soho. There's a lot out there, but I do agree it's slim. I listen to a lot of music but only a few like the ones I named would I call influential. What's gonna be hard and always will be is trying to do something different.
Great band. Been following them for years. Very humble. I'm Australia you get no metal or rock radio or TV. It's so hard to keep in touch with what's coming out in the rock world. At least when I lived in the UK they had scuzz and Kerang
Liam Jenkins pretty sure they have an online ondemand service thing. They are cool, one hour will be weird as hell then the next hour will rock like hell, They have different time slots for shows ran by community members even (like they'll show you the dj equipment and you can go do a show), and they also apparently do cheap decent gigs in their car park by localish acts but I'm yet to go :)
Dean Philpot I'll look them up. I haven't heard a decent rock show in years. Just doesn't seem to be popular enough to be on TV radio or anything else. Almost as hard as trying to find a band to join
The guy that told me more about the station and is really into his alt/rock music basically said these are the shows I should watch, and pretty sure as I said you can listen to old ones online :) anarchist channel (Tue night), only human (mon am), eco rad & new releases (weds)
Great to learn they are playing around with new material constantly Also with changing (or not) their sound, I still think it'll be great for Ian to rock out a piano onto stage! And hey... Mr Gallant found some old Pezz cassette... Is this some mythical 3rd cassette with some unheard content? :O
I know Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost the account password. I love any help you can offer me
@Adriel Bode Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
"I don't know what kids have to look up to now, it's slim..." This couldn't be further from the truth. Right now, as I type this we are in a truly golden age of music. I was at PEZ shows, saw you, George, at those shows and so I get that as we get older we can lose the drive to" keep up". But really it's just a choice, a choice to keep chasing or as you put it, "there's no place to get to". Which leads perfectly into my real comment : I honestly love that you're doing this George , I've been a fan for a lot of years but as a concurrent lover of music I want to say, with nothing but positive belief in your character and vision, this show should be more about looking forward, truly forward and fresh, not reminiscing. There is a lot happening now, you can be there, here and share it with the people. Anyways "long comment apologies" and in the very unlikely chance you ever want to chat with a fellow fan I'd be honored. Keep it cool like you always do my man 🙏.
drumtravelfun If people aren't aware of the amount of great music being made today it's only due to their own laziness or unwillingness to find it. OP is right, we are in a golden age. The internet has changed how we create, find, and listen to music. It's led to a deluge of amazing musicians and artists, to the point that fans of good music need to dig to find them. They're correct that good music is slim when you turn on the TV or the radio. Those mediums and the record industry are dead, that's not where good music lives anymore. The issue that I find today isn't a rarity of great music, it's an oversaturation of it. I'm constantly coming across amazing new artists that I just don't have the time to dig into because I'm catching up with the last batch of amazing artists that I found. As a music lover, I feel spoiled these days. As a musician, I feel like getting music out there is easier than ever, but the river is deep and crowded.
Shanannigan - exactly. When I talk to people in my age group it's always the same things. Music sucks now but it didn't back in the day or I don't even know how to find new music. So you've got nostalgia, busier schedules, smaller peer group, fear of the unknown. Add that to the strange societal expectation that you are out of touch because you are aging. It's no surprise that someone might say that music sucks now. But objectively that is just incorrect. The amount of creators and content has grown exponentially and will continue to do so. Every sub genre has a scene, stylistic crossovers are almost expected and all the old guard and the gate keepers are losing or have lost all their power : we live in a progressive, futuristic, wild-west of music. It's all out there and it's all more affordable then ever. All you have to do is follow your tastes and be excited.
This band is criminally underrated in the states... Outside of Rush Billy Talent is my most listened to band from Rock band from Canada.
ian is a such a legend. seems like such a chill dude too.
Yes absolutely, Thankyou George for sharing your light on the Canadian music scene across the Globe, CANADIAN BANDS AND MUSICIANS ROCK !!!

Was at a Pez show in Streetsville back in the day and they played an amazing cover of Mason's the Beautiful People.
"somethings gonna happen in the 20s".......alot has happened in the 20s
