The entire Queen street is dead now. They killed it. It has no vibe or aesthetic or culture or anything. You can get a cold, sterile uninviting shoebox condo for a million dollars now though. Yay.
@robmausser don't blame condos for that, though. People need to be able to live downtown, and this city has sprawled for way too long. The gentrification isn't great though, no.
@@BrofUJu why do people need to live downtown? Explain to me please. Tons of room for condos on the golden Mile and other places with good access to rapid transit. No need to destroy our downtown so someone can pay a ridiculous amount of money to live in a shoebox. A downtown should be for work and play, not living.
@@robmausser OMG I just google imaged the address.... what the hell did they do to that building!? growing up and religiously watching MM - It was always on my bucket list to visit and/or be part of the awesome shows they had or where you saw people in the background walking by the glass - jesus, they completely ruined it!
Much Music and CHUM! Loved the truck sticking out of the side of the building but mostly what went on in that amazing building. MAN!!! I MISS those days! So much creativity... so much!!
this man on much loud and the punk show got me introduced to so many of my favorite bands that i still love to this day, talk about one of the most influential people in canadian music without being in a band what a legend you are george
Strombo, I met you at the Ottawa airport about 15 yrs ago when I worked security there. You were an absolute gentleman. You shook my hand and thanked me very much for my kind words. You pretty much do what I always wanted to do. As a singer, it's tough to break in as you know, there's a lot of incredible talent out there. You've always brought us some of the most interesting people in music, and it's no secret that you love what you do. I feel that passion because I too, have been involved in music in some way since the age of 5 (1975) I also started reading rockstars biographies and autobiographies since I was 10 yrs old. My llife has revolved around music in some way. It is my best friend. In my 40's I began filming bands that I would travel far to see, and started making my own videos (self taught on movie maker) If I couldn't be in front of the camera, I was going to be behind it. Long story short, I recently saw one of my absolute fave bands live in Montreal in Sept 2024. I was front row center at Mtelus for the Cult, and I have to tell you, in their 60's they still got it. In November (couple months ago) I flew to London England to see them again at the Roundhouse, again, front row center. That was the most incredible experience of my life. I loveee that you had the Cult play House of Strombo. I was living in Toronto at the time and I wish I had known about that! Keep doing what you do, you're extremely amazing at it. :)
One of my coolest memories from my 20s was waiting in line for George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight at CBC and George walking up behind everyone in the crowd line, shaking hands and thanking us for attending a taping.
I do remember you Mr.Strombolopolous (spelling) on Much Music when I was a kid and what you're talking about was the very cool sh*t I grew up on. Much Music was legit way cooler than Mtv bc there was nothing corporate about it. Good musoc, good people straight from the street. I recall speakers corner which I loved too. Only just in Oct 24 did I get the chance to visit the much music building. Where I wished I one day could be on Electric Circus! And who was outside that day? My childhood hero Monica Deol I couldn't believe my luck. She was kind and took a pic w/me but George. You are talking about those times that Canadian kids loved. Seeing their fav bands in an authentic way. Thank you for bringing up those very awesome memories.
Ya i miss those days, i used to Manage the Pita Pit out there and he was cool enough to be a regular the Souvlaki Pita. Was a cool down to earth guy. Why this works for him, because ppl feel that energy!! Keep up the great work George!!
I grew up in a small, rural town in Northern Ontario when it was normal to have just 5 channels on your tv set. Other than radio, this was my access to the outside world. In 7th grade, the local cable company upgraded its channels and that's when I saw Much for the 1st time. The music videos, live shows, intimate interviews, the real, unscripted personalities of the vjs hit my world like a lightening bolt. I've tried to explain to my kids growing up in the age of digital streaming just how magical this channel was to me at the time 🥺 You continue to bring that same level of magic with all the interviews you do and the music you share, George, so very excited for this and to tune into House of Strombo ! 🌟🤟
George this is great! I listened to cfny and I remember you dj’ing. It was incredible I got to Shake hands with a couple members of Coldplay and my favorite, Radiohead. Much Music was such a creative space and there were great vj’s and the biggest bands would play there for the most intimate concerts, turn into a dance club on Sunday afternoon, Marilyn Dennis had her terrific show, speakers corner…so sad that changed when Moses sold it. And your CBC show, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight was not to miss! Such an amazing talent as it was an interview but felt just like a casual conversation! You were able to make everyone at ease and talk intelligently no matter who was sitting across from you. There were hints of your talents before that but that was where you really shone! I think you’re a truly curious person like I am and you really prepared, you read the book, listened to records, had questions other people would shy away from. Then I saw you at the small Coldplay show (they were huge at this time, XY) at the Guvernment venue but didn’t want to disturb you! I’m so excited I found you again and you’re back doing interviews! You’re in LA which is kind of surprising but I’m sure you got access to so many more people! It’s crazy how time has flown by but I’m so happy to find you and can watch past interviews. I’m subbed with the bell clicked and ready for my favourite broadcaster to do what he does best!
I love the idea. I'm from central California where this was going on with local band and also in Phoenix AZ at a place called the Nile. I seen bands from LA and even Brazil there. This is the answer to ticket master and breathing life back into the artistic space. Keep it up
Hell yeah! While my music knowledge is nowhere near where it should be, I've always loved you interviews. Dare I say it, I think you are one of the most important interviewers in modern Canadian history. You have my attention sir!
This man opened up a world to me that I was fascinated with when I was young. I watched everything you did religiously. The New Music on Much was probably some of the best Canadian content ever. A true Canadian Icon. Would love to see you back in Canada doing what you do best.......

Hey George, thanks for doing this. One of my favourite memories as a kid was taking a bus on a school trip into Toronto to visit the Much Music studio. Miss your late night talk show. Much was the best. I did try and win a much dance party for my school, yes dating myself, but from what I remember they were all won out east. I did work in the tv industry for a while and enjoyed it. Glad you are still around doing your thang.
I could not believe the John Prine show. An absolute magic event and so timely. My number two is cemented in place with Death From Above 1979. I'll have to watch some more and come back with a third, fourth and fifth pics...
you are incredibly good at what you do sir!! thank you so much, watched you through the years and you always kept it fresh, interesting and your enthusiasm is contagious.. Bravo!!
Such a shame that the whole neighborhood is gone. Speakers corner was such a Gem on top of everything else amazing down there. I probably fist bumped 20 plus artists who were just doing interviews outside as I walked by on the sidewalk over the years. Corporate blandness now. Keep on fighting the good fight George, thank you for all of your work and the entertainment over the years. I am now subscribed to the strombo show, maybe I'll make an appearance one day 😉
Hey dude. 43 years old currently. Been watching you since I saw you on MUCH LOUD. I watch the alexisonfire show in your house all the time. Its been fun growing old with you! It was a different time. Recording MUCH LOUD on VHS and showing your buddies new bands.
Every Christmas since 2018 I watch John Prine in yr basement.and Gordon Lighfoot sitting in the audience. It was magical. Love that it is black and white. John was on his game. Gord was well was Gord. Class act. Looking forward to this next chapter from you. But I do so miss the red chairs. Can you sneak a few interviews using them again?
I've always been a huge fan of your work, George. When I was 17, back in 2000, I wrote you a letter c/o MuchMusic, just talking about music and such, and you wrote back to me. I wasn't expecting a reply. I still have it and it's one of my most prized posessions. Not only have you always been a true professional when it comes to what you do, you're a genuinely nice guy.
George…you’re still amazing and have been so for years…look fwd to many more moments spent watching you interview and share with cool people, but none are ever as cool as you! ✌️
I remember picking up some concert tickets that I had won from CFNY. I think this was when George wa doing L.I.T. (Live in Toronto). He just finished talking an put on a song, walked over to the ticket pick up desk, shook my hand and was genuinely interested in the tickets I was picking up, if I liked the band and if I was actually going to the show. I won a few tickets back then so I don't remember the exact show, but I always went when I won tickets. I liked the he just wanted to know what other people were into back then.
Great little pitch video! Keep it up! PS … could u get iconic Canadian YTV sensation, PJ Phil in for an interview? That dude was wayyyyy ahead of his time.
I'm always so sad when I walk by the old Much Music spot, it was such a vibrant, cool thing when I was a kid. Love this idea!

The John Prine and Gordon Lightfoot show is my favourite.
It was magic for sure.
I love our talks with George. Great hearing this man!
Subscribed eons ago. Essential viewing.
George, you and I had a great conversation at the Rhino many years ago. I had one of their amazing winter ales as you a zero percent Becks. As you do. Sir, at the height of your career, you were just the kind person I had come to know on TV. Around that time I had the pleasure of having a drink with Emily Haines at Deor's on the Danforth. Toronto is a wonderful place to live.
You are the man George!!! The best performances ever!
Glad I found this...always liked your interviews
I attended the Emily Hanes show at your house and it absolutely blew my mind - it took me months to properly process it. I'm so grateful to have been a part of that, I love sharing you and your content with my friends!
Hanging out with Taggart and Torrens at your place was an unforgettable night. Thanks George!
Proud to have been a fan for 30+ years now. Never get tired of you or your storytelling and conversations. Glad to see you here!
Was wondering whatever happened to Strombo. A bit creeped out that RUclips is reading my mind. Subscribed because obviously: resistance to the algo is futile.
Hey George, I’m not sure if you read these comments or not but I just wanted to say that Some of my best times were as a teenager being home on Saturday nights with friends watching “The Punk Show” and “Loud”. Thanks, George! The Melvins must have loosend the nails in the 2×4's and the screws in the cabinets and nearly blew the darn doors off the hinges. :)
I am still rewatching Franz Ferdinand gig to this day for the past 2 years, love the idea and love the execution, keep it up

George, you were great on the NewMusic and were a wonderful interviewer on the Hour. (CBC were so stupid to cut that show)
I'll watch with interest.
This is so random. You popping up.
I loved you and "Rick the temp"..
Good to see what youre doing these days
I remember your talk show fondly, so I'm glad to find you on my current addiction, the internet.
Hey dude. 43 years old currently. Been watching you since I saw you on MUCH LOUD. I watch the alexisonfire show in your house all the time. Its been fun growing old with you! It was a different time. Recording MUCH LOUD on VHS and showing your buddies new bands.
Long time subscriber, looking forward to what you do next!
One of my favourite things I've seen anyone do, EVER. Thank you! If you ever do it again, I'm there.
I regularly go back to watch the Melvins play at your place. Such a fantastic, fun time.
Just got here and subbed for the memories, looks like some good stuff to check out.
George, if you're there, I'm there! Been missing your face, man! Big love from BC!
Obviously subbed! Loved watching Power Trip in The House of Strombo!
Watched you for years...lots of love from Ottawa 😊❤!
Subbed. You got me into a lot of music as a kid. Cheers bud.
good luck George... youre authenticity is perfect for you tube!!
Love it, I look forward to what you come up with.
Been a huge fan for decades, done and done!
Sold me dude. Tuned in and subscribed from the Rock
Much Music was a huge staple of my child hood. When the other 8 year olds were watching Pokemon, I was calling in to request Mighty Mighty Bosstones 🤟
You're awesome George! Keep on rockin'!
Such a wild time. Love growing up at this time. saw George and Martin every weekend for literal years.. a part of my history!
Love Strombo and House of Strombo! Great to see ya today Strombo! You da best, eh. ❤😊
I grew up On MuchMusic & Music Plus (French Version in MTL) George & Bill were my Favorites. George you were best !!!
My gosh, thank you, the kitchen table, the fireplace after...for those lucky enough, was the hub,
I'd love to see more of the El Camino!
