When I practiced Iaido my sensei introduced me to the principal of "Ki, Ken, Tai" or "Energy (Intention), Sword (Weapon)(Implement), Body". This represented the order of how to move and execute effectively and efficiently, first with the Mind, then with the Tool, then the Body. This sole principal changed the way I think about not only movement but, how to accomplish tasks and feats.
Also If you're going to give your weapon to your uke. The sharp side of your weapon facing towards to you and bow with your head because of respect the uke.
We always learned to move our bokken and body simultaneously, not the one before the other. I think it has something to do with moving as one, sword and body as part of a whole. I should ask my sensei though. :)
I actually never seen that at least in Germany. O-Sensei not only founded Aikido, but mixed various other fighting arts in it, that is why many techniques can be found in Yaido, a traditional sword fighting art.
Bayonet rifle techniques used to be taught in Aikido before the end of WWII. They were no longer taught afterward. However, you could probably improvise the appropriate techniques by modifying Jo techniques.
Hello Jack, I will be teaching a seminar in Germany together with three other Senseis in November 11-13. You can find more information here: aikido-klardorf.de/
I like how despite Rokas moving forward from Aikido, he is still a Samurai at heart, just more stronger.

I totally believe you. There are many ways to use the sword and it depends on the school. The most common one I've met though was body follows sword.
whats with the sound (voice) glitches in your videos ? I'm noticing them often lately.
Hi,
It's true, they are common. It's because of the recording device glitches. I'll look into getting new recording gear in the near future
No spear or pike variant taught in Aikido?
